POLICE OFFICER AWARDED FOR ACTIONS DURING VAN BUREN FIRE

An area police officer is being applauded for his actions during a fire last week in Van Buren.

Officer Nathan Vails evacuated people from the fire at the Landing on September 15th.

A special ceremony was held on Monday recognizing Officer Vails, who was given the lifesaving medal.  

STODDARD COUNTY FAIR TO BEGIN TODAY

The 2021 Stoddard County Fair is set to begin this evening.

The fair will kick-off with the parade in downtown Dexter at 5:30 pm.

The Dexter Police Department is reminding everyone to remove their vehicles from Stoddard Street by 4:30 pm this afternoon for the parade.

There will be multiple nights of entertainment and events throughout the week, including performances by Maggie Thorn and the Assembly Youth Church Service.

POPLAR BLUFF COURT TO BE OUT OF SESSION FOR TWO WEEKS

A Southeast Missouri courtroom will not be in session for an extended period of time.

Poplar Bluff City Hall announced Monday that the city Municipal Court will not be in session for two weeks.

Anyone who had a court date in that time period will be notified of their new court date.

No information was released about the reason for the closure.

ONE DEAD, ONE INJURED FOLLOWING NORTHEAST ARKANSAS WRECK

A Pocahontas woman has died from injuries she received in a motorcycle wreck in Northeast Arkansas.

According to the Arkansas State Police, a vehicle was attempting to make a left hand turn on US Highway 67 on Friday in Pocahontas when the vehicle struck a motorcycle.

The impact caused both the driver and passenger of the motorcycle, identified respectfully as 32 year old Jordan Bullock, of Pocahontas, and 34 year old Sarah Pratt, also of Pocahontas, to be thrown from the vehicle.

Pratt was transported to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead. The severity of Bullock’s injuries were not released.

MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO CONSPIRACY TO DISTRIBUTE HEROIN IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

An Illinois man is facing five to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty on a drug charge.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office, 46 year old Daryl Wheeler, of Chicago, pleaded guilty on Monday to one count of conspiracy to distribute 100 grams or more of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of heroin.

Wheeler admitted that he and his associates distributed approximately 538 grams of heroin in Southeast Missouri, including the Charleston area, between September of 2017 and February of 2019.

Officials say that Wheeler’s sentencing is scheduled for December 21st.
