PUBLIC HEARING SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK TO DISCUSS POPLAR BLUFF BLOCK GRANT
A public hearing has been scheduled for this week in Poplar Bluff to discuss the city’s application for a block grant.
The city will host the hearing at 1 pm on Thursday at the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission on Fair Street.
The city is proposing to sponsor the application of the Planning Commission to replace the horizontal baler located at the Ozark Foothills Recycling Center in Poplar Bluff.
The total project cost is estimated at $100,474 and the grant request will be for that amount.
POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOLS OFFERING TRAINING FOR SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS
Anyone wanting to learn more about being a substitute teacher can attend a training session scheduled for next week in Poplar Bluff.
According to the Poplar Bluff School District, the substitute teacher training will begin at 4 pm on Monday, September 13th at the Administrative building.
Officials say the daily rate for substitutes recently increased to $90. For retirees of the Poplar Bluff school system, the daily rate increase was to $100.

POPLAR BLUFF EARLY CHILDHOOD SCREENING SET FOR EARLY OCTOBER
Officials say that appointments are still available for this school year at the Poplar Bluff Early Childhood Center.
If you would like to enroll your child into the Poplar Bluff Early Childhood program for this year, call 573-785-6803 for an appointment.
The next screening will be held on October 5th and around 15 spots remain.
Parents are asked to have their child’s social security number ready when calling to make an appointment.
SEVEN DIED IN TRAFFIC CRASHES IN MISSOURI DURING LABOR DAY HOLIDAY WEEKEND
State officials say there was a decrease in fatalities over the Labor Day holiday weekend compared to last year.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, seven people died in traffic crashes during the 2021 Labor Day holiday weekend, compared to 18 last year.
The total amount of crashes were up, however. This year, the Highway Patrol says they investigated 351 crashes which resulted in 103 injuries. In 2020, there were 278 traffic crashes, which included 140 injuries.
State troopers also made 108 DWI arrests and 71 drug arrests during the holiday weekend.
THREE STODDARD COUNTY ROADS TO BE CLOSED THIS WEEK
Road crews will be closing three Stoddard County roads this week to perform pavement repairs.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route AC will be closed from Route 25 to County Road 237, while Route TT will be closed from Route 60 to County 642.
Both road closures will take place from 7 am to 4 pm daily through Friday.
Route KK in Stoddard County will also be closed through Friday for pavement repairs.
The closure on Route KK will be located between Route 114 and County Road 718. Work will be done from 8 am to 4 pm each day.
DUNKLIN COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS
Route DD in Dunklin County will be closed today so crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation can perform pavement repairs.
The section of roadway to be closed is located from Route 53 to County Road 228.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 4 pm.
