SOUNDS OF CHRISTMAS COMING TO THE PALACE OF PRAISE

The dates have been set for a Christmas themed play at a Poplar Bluff church.

The Palace of Praise is presenting the 13th Annual Sounds of Christmas nightly from December 11th through the 14th beginning at 7 pm each night.  

Admission to the show is free, but you can also purchase tickets for a dinner theater experience on the 12th, 13th, and 14th.

Tickets for the dinner are $15 per person and can be purchased online at SoundsOfChristmas.org or at the Palace of Praise, which is located at 1400 Herschel Bess Boulevard in Poplar Bluff.

ALMOST 200,000 DEER HARVESTED DURING FIREARMS DEER SEASON

Almost 200,000 deer were harvested in Missouri during deer season.

Preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation shows that deer hunters in Missouri harvested 197,724 deer during the November portion of firearms deer season from November 12th through the 22nd. Of the deer harvested, 102,633 were antlered bucks, 16,929 were button bucks, and 78,162 were does.

This year’s total was in increase of over 8,000 deer from last year.

Howell and Bollinger were the top counties in Southeast Missouri, with over three thousand deer harvested each, which put them at 4th and 5th statewide.

POPLAR BLUFF FIRE DEPARTMENT IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Anyone interested in fire service in Poplar Bluff is being invited to apply for a scholarship from the Poplar Bluff Fire Department.

According to fire officials, the scholarship is for Firefighter I, Firefighter II, and HazMat Awareness classes at Three Rivers College. This scholarship will be for the spring semester, and will cover the cost of all three classes.

Applications are available at Fire Station 1 on South Broadway as well as the Poplar Bluff Fire Department Facebook page.

The deadline to apply is December 5th. 

 

POPLAR BLUFF LIBRARY COLLECTING BOOKS FOR SANTA LAND

The Poplar Bluff library is collecting books for area children.

The Library has partnered with Altrusa to collect books so that every child who visits Santa Land this year leaves with a book.

Santa Land is an annual event that takes place at the Black River Coliseum.

The Library is asking anyone who would like to drop off new or gently used children's books, appropriate for ages birth to 6th grade, to do so at either of the library's branches from now until December 2nd.

The Santa Land collection box is on the landing at the Main Branch and in the lobby at the Ridgel Branch.

2022 EGGNOG JOG 5K SET FOR THIS WEEKEND

Registration is underway for the 2022 Eggnog Jog 5k in Poplar Bluff.

The race will begin at 9 am on Saturday, December 3rd at Hendrickson Park. Registration will start at 8 am.

Entry is free and there will be medals for the overall male and female winners. For more information, contact Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation at 573-686-8645.

MODOT TO HELP GRANT CHRISTMAS WISHES TO AREA FAMILIES

The Missouri Department of Transportation will be participating in the Christmas Angels program again this year to help grant Christmas wishes to Southeast Missouri families.

This year's event will be held on Thursday, December 1st, with chili orders due by 4 pm this afternoon. The cost is $6 and will include a 16-ounce cup of chili, crackers and chips.

Current MoDOT employees and retirees volunteer to cook, pack, and deliver chili for the event. To place an order, call (573) 472-5294. Orders of five or more in the Sikeston area can be delivered. 

With the funds raised, volunteers purchase gifts for children who would not otherwise receive them.
