POPLAR BLUFF MAN IN CUSTODY ON STATUTORY RAPE CHARGES

A Poplar Bluff man is in custody on statutory rape and sodomy charges.

34 year old Corvette Christian is facing charges of child molestation – 2nd degree, statutory rape – 1st degree, and four counts of statutory sodomy.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Christian admitted to investigators to inappropriately touching the victim multiple times.

Christian appeared in court on Monday and is being held in custody at the Butler County Detention Center on no bond. 

 

CHANCES FOR SEVERE WEATHER TODAY IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

Weather officials are watching for possibilities of severe weather today in Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas.

According to the National Weather Service, a few strong to severe thunderstorms are possible late Tuesday and Tuesday night.

The storms could include damaging winds, large hail, and tornados.

The chances of storms are higher in our more southeastern listening areas including the southern portion of the Missouri bootheel. 

MISSOURI YOUNG HUNTERS HARVEST ALMOST 3,000 DEER DURING LATE YOUTH PORTION OF HUNTING SEASON

Young hunters in Missouri harvested almost 3,000 deer last week.

Preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation shows that young hunters, between the ages of 6 and 15, harvested 2,881 deer during Missouri’s late youth portion of the 2022 deer hunting season. The late youth portion ran from November 25th to the 27th.

Of the 2,881 deer harvested, 1,302 were antlered bucks, 322 were button bucks, and 1,257 were does.

MDC Cervid Program Supervisor Jason Isabelle tells KWOC News that this year’s harvest total was slightly below average, but that wasn’t unexpected given the rain that moved through portions of the state Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

SMALL EARTHQUAKE SHAKES SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

A small earthquake shook a Southeast Missouri community early Monday morning.

According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 2.1 earthquake was recorded at approximately 2:40 am Monday morning.

The quake was centered around two and a half miles west northwest of Marston and had a depth of over six miles. 

DRAINAGE REPAIRS TO BEGIN TODAY ON US HIGHWAY 61

U.S. Route 61 in New Madrid County will be reduced to one lane beginning today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform drainage repairs. 

The section of Route 61 to be reduced is located from Route 162 to Main Street in Portageville.  

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Friday, December 7th.

HIGHWAY 328 IN CLAY COUNTY TO BE CLOSED FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS

A road in Northeast Arkansas will be closed over the next two weeks.

Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller tells KWOC News that as of yesterday, Highway 328 in Clay County will be closed from County Road 135 to County Road 139.

Miller says that the section of highway should be closed for approximately two weeks. A reason for the closure was not given.
