ONE KILLED IN TRAIN VEHICLE COLLISION
One person has died following a train-vehicle collision in Butler County.
According to officials the crash occurred when a train struck a vehicle Sunday evening on County Road 620, off of B Highway, east of Poplar Bluff.
Butler County Coroner Jim Akers tells KWOC News that the deceased has been identified as 52 year old Mark Arnold, of Fisk.
No information was released regarding any damage to the train or if anybody onboard was injured.
The Butler County Fire Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and EMS all responded to the scene.
FLOOD WATCH TO BE IN EFFECT TOMORROW
A flood watch will be in effect tomorrow for most of Southeast Missouri.
According to the National Weather Service, heavy rain is forecast to fall on already saturated ground across southeast Missouri over the next few days. Rainfall around or in excess of two inches is expected, with higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
The flood watch is currently set to be in effect from late Monday night through Tuesday evening.
TWO DEAD, 14 INJURED, IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI SHOOTING
Two people have died from a weekend shooting in Southeast Missouri.
According to authorities, the shooting occurred at a party early Saturday morning on Franklin Street in Charleston.
Two people were killed in the incident, while 14 others were injured. The names of the victims were not released.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing and the Charleston Department of Public Safety is asking anyone who has information about the incident to call 573-683-3737.
VEHICLE OVERTURNS INTO STREAM IN STODDARD COUNTY
One person was badly injured Friday afternoon in a single vehicle accident in Stoddard County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 30 year old Randell Duke, of Jackson, was driving on Stoddard County Road 535 when his vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a bridge, and overturned into a stream.
A passenger in the vehicle, 60 year old Craig Knapp, of Gideon, suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was flown to a St. Louis hospital.
Following the wreck, Duke was arrested on a felony charge of driving while intoxicated – drugs.
POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN ARRESTED FOR HEROIN
A Poplar Bluff woman was taken into custody Friday on a heroin charge.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 25 year old Vanessa Powell was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance – heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Powell was also arrested on felony Butler County warrants for probation violation and forgery of checks.
Following the arrest, she was held at the Butler County Jail.
SMALL EARTHQUAKE RECORDED NEAR DUDLEY
A small earthquake was recorded Friday in Stoddard County.
According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 2.3 earthquake occurred at 1:22 pm Friday afternoon.
The earthquake was located just over four miles South of Dudley and had a depth of almost five miles.
