FLOOD WATCH TO BE IN EFFECT FOR SOUTHEAST MISSOURI THROUGH THIS EVENING
A flood watch is currently scheduled to continue through this evening for Southeast Missouri.
According to the National Weather Service, heavy rain is forecast to fall today on recently saturated ground. Widespread amounts totaling two to three inches are forecast with locally higher totals possible.
The excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
There is also a chance of severe weather today, including damaging winds, tornadoes, and large hail.
WINTER WEATHER FORECAST FOR THIS WEEK IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
This week will bring the possibilities of winter weather back to Southeast Missouri.
According to the National Weather Service, there are two rounds of precipitation expected, the first Wednesday night and the second midday Thursday into early Thursday evening with freezing rain and sleet likely.
Weather officials say that it is still early, but they are concerned with both flooding and significant wintry precipitation accumulations.
INSPECTION OF WAPPAPELLO DAM POSTPONED
Updating a story we brought to you earlier this month, the proposed inspection of the Wappapello Dam has been postponed.
According to the US Army Corps of Engineers, the recent weather and rainfall in Wappapello Lake’s watershed impacted the lake level significantly. For this reason the periodic inspection has been postponed until a later date when conditions are more favorable for the inspection.
The inspection had previously been scheduled to start today.
An exact time frame for the inspection to begin was not released.
FINALS SET IN MULTIPLE SOUTHEAST MISSOURI BASKETBALL DISTRICTS
Basketball district tournaments are in full swing in Southeast Missouri and multiple teams have already sealed their spots in the district finals.
On the boy’s side, both Cooter and Clarkton advanced to the Class 1, District 1 Finals Monday night. The Class 2, District 1 Final will be between South Pemiscot and Hayti.
For the girls, Twin Rivers and Portageville both won Monday night in Class 3, District 1 to advance to that district’s finals.
Semifinal action will continue tonight in Southeast Missouri for both the boys and girls.
Big matchups tonight include Bernie vs. Oak Ridge for the boys and Naylor vs. Holcomb for the girls.
CUB SCOUT RECRUITMENT EVENT TO BE HELD THIS WEEK IN POPLAR BLUFF
A Cub Scout recruitment event will be held this week in Butler County.
Poplar Bluff Cub Scout Packs 3 and 60 will be holding the event beginning at 6 pm on February 24th at the Poplar Bluff Kindergarten Center.
The event is open to families of Kindergarteners through 5th graders for them to learn more about the opportunities that Cub Scouts has to offer.
Families in Doniphan will have the chance to attend a Cub Scout recruitment event for Pack 4069 at 6 pm on March 1st at the Doniphan United Methodist Church.
CULVERT REPLACEMENT SET FOR TODAY IN BUTLER COUNTY
Missouri Route 142 in Butler County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.
The section Route 142 to be closed is located from Route HH to County Road 350.
Work is scheduled to take place from 7:30 am to 4 pm.
