Thousands of people were without power for a part of Thursday in Southeast Missouri.

WATCH FOR BLACK ICE DURING YOUR MORNING COMMUTE

Much of Southeast Missouri experienced a mix of rain and freezing rain on Thursday and with overnight temperatures plunging to the low 20’s this has resulted in chances of black ice on roads this morning.

MoDOT officials say that bridges and elevated surfaces are the first to ice over and should always be approached with caution, but even roads that might look clear can hide slippery conditions.

Drivers should reduce speeds and anticipate slick road conditions both where you are and where you are going.

You can also check current Missouri road conditions on the Traveler Information Map at modot.org, or through MoDOT’s smartphone app, available for iPhone and Android phones.
