TWO MAYNARD RESIDENTS KILLED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK

Two Maynard residents were killed in a single vehicle wreck early Wednesday morning.

According to the Arkansas State Police, the wreck occurred on Highway 115 in Randolph County when a vehicle ran off the highway and rolled before hitting a power pole.

Officials say that the driver of the vehicle, 58 year old Benny Burgess, and a passenger, 63 year old Nita Burgess, were both killed in the crash.


DONIPHAN TO TAKE ON EAST CARTER IN OFC GIRLS FINAL

The Girls Final is set at the 2022 Ozark Foothills Conference Basketball Tournament.

One seed Doniphan will take on three seed East Carter Friday night at the Libla Family Sports Complex on the Three Rivers College campus in Poplar Bluff. Doniphan advanced to the final following their 48-39 win over Neelyville Wednesday night. East Carter reached the final with a 49-44 win over Naylor.

In the lone boys Junior Varsity semi-final game Wednesday night, East Carter beat Greenville 53-33.

The Boys’ Varsity semi-finals will be held tonight in Broseley with East Carter facing Twin Rivers at 6:30 pm and Doniphan taking on Greenville at 8 pm. Those games will be proceeded by the remaining JV Semifinal between Doniphan and Twin Rivers at 5 pm.

JASON SMITH DECIDES AGAINST SENATE BID, WILL SEEK REELECTION TO HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

The United States Congressman from Southeast Missouri has opted out of running for the US Senate.

Congressman Jason Smith announced on social media Wednesday that he will seek reelection to the House of Representatives this year. He has held the seat representing Missouri District Eight since 2013.

There was speculation that Smith would seek the US Senate seat that is currently held by Roy Blunt, who announced last year that he will not seek reelection. 

CRASH IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS LEAVES ONE DEAD

A two vehicle crash Wednesday in Northeast Arkansas resulted in one death.

Officials with the Arkansas State Police tell KWOC News that 25 year old Alexander Richardson, of Wynne, Arkansas, was driving on US Highway 63 near Sedgwick, when his vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a freightliner.

Richardson was killed in the wreck. No injuries were listed for the driver of the freightliner. 

TALL AND SMALL BALL TO BENEFIT AREA FOSTER CHILDREN

Foster Adopt Connect SEMO will be hosting an event this weekend to benefit children in foster care.

The 1st Annual Tall and Small Ball has been scheduled for 5 to 8 pm on Saturday, February 12th at the Westwood Center Wedding Chapel.

The event will feature a night of formal dancing and activities for kids and adults.

POPLAR BLUFF ELKS TO HOST COMEDY NIGHT THIS WEEKEND

An area organization is hosting a comedy night this weekend to raise money for charities.

The Poplar Bluff Elks Comedy night is scheduled for Saturday night. Organizers say that tickets are $30 each and include an all you can eat dinner featuring smoked chicken and pork loin. The dinner will begin at 7 pm.

Four professional comedians will be performing beginning at 8:30 pm.

Profits from the show will go to local vets and scholarships, along with other state and national charities.
