DEXTER MAN CONVICTED FOR ENTICEMENT OF A CHILD
A Dexter man has been convicted of using social media to try to meet up with what he thought was an underage child for sex.
Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney, Russ Oliver, tells KWOC News that a Stoddard County jury has found 42 year old Robert Cooper guilty of felony enticement of a child.
Oliver says that the case centered on the defendant luring, through Facebook Messenger, what he thought was a 13 year old girl to a motel in Dexter. However, at the motel Cooper met with Dexter Police.
Cooper was later interviewed by a Dexter Detective and admitted that he was the person engaged in the Facebook messaging conversation with the fake 13 year old girl.
On Monday, the jury recommended a 20 year sentence in the Missouri Department of Corrections. A final sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 25th where the judge will determine if the jury’s sentence will be accepted or if he will enter a different sentence.
SEVEN YEAR OLD CHILD KILLED IN A WRECK NEAR CHARLESTON
A seven your old child has died after being involved in a single vehicle wreck Sunday night.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the vehicle was traveling on Route O, near Charleston in Mississippi County, when it ran off of the side of the road, overturned, and struck an embankment.
A seven year old passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
HUNTER EDUCATION CLASS TO BE HELD IN POPLAR BLUFF
A hunter education class will be held next month in Poplar Bluff.
The Hunter Education Spring Skills Session has been scheduled for Monday, April 4th at the Poplar Bluff Technical Career Center from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
The event is open to the public at no cost, but students must preregister online by March 31st at https://mdc-event-web.s3licensing.com/
Class participants must bring proof of completion of the knowledge portion of the hunter’s education course.

MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION TO RELEASE UPDATED HUNTING AND FISHING REGULATIONS
The Missouri Department of Conservation has announced that updated booklets for hunting and fishing regulations will be available this month.
Officials say that hunters, trappers, anglers, and others can get free copies of its updated booklets on 2022 Spring Turkey Hunting Regulations and Information, Summary of Missouri Hunting and Trapping Regulations, Summary of Missouri Fishing Regulations, and the Wildlife Code of Missouri.
The booklets will be available at MDC regional offices, MDC nature centers, and other places where permits are sold.
The booklet information will also be available at mdc.mo.gov.
DONIPHAN STREET TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR DEBRIS REMOVAL
A Doniphan street will be closed today so crews can remove debris in the area.
According to the Doniphan Police Department, the City of Doniphan Utilities Department, along with other agencies, will be working to clear debris near the bridge on the 400 block of Pine Street beginning at 8 am this morning.
Officials say that Pine Street will be closed from Jackson Street east to Vine Street during the project.
SEVEN AND A HALF MONTH LONG ROAD PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN WAYNE COUNTY
Route D in Wayne County will be closed beginning today as contractor crews raise and realign the roadway.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of roadway to be closed is located between East Fork Lost Creek and County Road 524.
Weather permitting, work is scheduled to begin this morning with the project anticipated to be completed on Tuesday, November 1st.
