PUXICO WOMAN DIES AFTER BEING STRUCK BY A VEHICLE

A Puxico woman is dead after she was struck by a vehicle over the weekend in Stoddard County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle was traveling northbound on Missouri Highway 51 Saturday night when it struck a pedestrian in the roadway.

Officials say the incident occurred shortly after 9 pm, a quarter of a mile south of Puxico.

The pedestrian, identified as 33 year old Jessica Williams, was taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital where she was pronounced dead.

No injuries were listed for the driver of the vehicle. 


MAN ARRESTED FOR CHILD MOLESTATION CHARGE OUT OF WAYNE COUNTY

Authorities in Wayne County say that a man is in custody on a child molestation charge.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Tony Ray Waites was taken into custody last week at a St. Louis hospital and transported back to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office on charges of child molestation – 1st degree, statutory sodomy – 2nd degree, and endangering the welfare of a child creating substantial risk.

No bond was set and officials say the investigation is still ongoing. 

DEXTER POLICE RECEIVE GRANT FOR BODY CAMERAS

A southeast Missouri police department has been able to upgrade some of their equipment thanks to a grant.

According to the Dexter Police Department, the agency has received grant funding to purchase new body camera units for their patrol division and school resource officers.

The body cameras are being used to replace older, outdated body cameras already deployed in the field. 

The funding for the cameras is thanks to a grant from Walmart Giving. 

POPLAR BLUFF RECOGNIZED BY ARBOR DAY FOUNDATION

The city of Poplar Bluff is being recognized for its commitment to effective urban forest management.

According to City Manager Matt Winters, Poplar Bluff was named a 2021 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation.

Poplar Bluff achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program's four requirements: forming a tree board or department, creating a tree-care ordinance, having an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

BUTLER COUNTY ROAD TO BE REDUCED TODAY FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS

Route U in Butler County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.

The section of roadway to be reduced is located from Route CC to Route H.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 8 am to 4 pm.   

REPAIRS TO CAUSE DELAYS THIS WEEK IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

Route 62 in New Madrid County will be reduced to one lane for most of this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform ditch repairs. 

The work zone will be located from County Road 249 to County Road 558.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 4:30 pm daily through Thursday.
