SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER TODAY IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

With thunderstorms possible today, weather officials are warning of a risk of severe storms.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, most of Southeast Missouri is under a slight risk for severe thunderstorms from late this morning into the afternoon.

Any of the storms that become severe may contain large hail and damaging winds, although an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. 

SEAT BELT ENFORCEMENT CAMPAIGN TO START NEXT WEEK IN MISSOURI

A new seat belt enforcement campaign is set to begin next week in Missouri.

According to Dexter Police Chief Hank Trout, Dexter Police will be joining with statewide law enforcement from May 23rd through June 5th for a statewide “Click It or Ticket” mobilization to step up enforcement on Missouri’s seat belt law.

More than 6 out of 10 people killed in 2021 Missouri traffic crashes were not wearing a seat belt. 

MAN ARRESTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON METH AND DWI CHARGES

Authorities in New Madrid County have arrested an area man on multiple felony charges.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 57 year old Timothy Sullenger, of Sikeston, was taken into custody early Wednesday morning on felony charges of driving while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Sullenger is also facing charges of driving while revoked and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. 

FEED AND SEED EVENT SET FOR TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF

New Day Ministry in Poplar Bluff will be hosting a feed and seed event today. 

The event is from 3 to 5 pm and is first come, first serve, with packs limited to one per household.

New Day Ministry is located at 703 Franklin Street in Poplar Bluff.

POPLAR BLUFF PARKS AND RECREATION TO CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY WITH 5K RACE

Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation is planning to celebrate the 4th of July weekend this year with a 5k race.

The Independence Day 5k will begin at 8 am on Saturday, July 2nd. The race will begin at Kiwanis Bacon Park and will go through the Oak Grove trail and Hendrickson Park before ending back at Kiwanis Bacon Park.

Registration is $25 and you can register at the Parks and Recreation office located at 430 North Second Street or at active.com.

All proceeds from this event will go to the Poplar Bluff Trails Coalition.

SHOULDER WORK COULD RESULT IN DELAYS TODAY ON INTERSTATE 55

Southbound Interstate 55 in Pemiscot County will be reduced to one lane with a 14-foot width restriction today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform shoulder work.  

According to officials, the work zone will be located between Mile Markers 20 and 18 near Hayti.

Weather permitting, work will take place today through 4:30 p.m.
