ONE DEAD FOLLOWING TRACTOR TRAILER WRECK IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

One person has died following a tractor trailer wreck in Northeast Arkansas.

According to authorities, the crash occurred Wednesday morning on State Highway 90 between Pocahontas and Ravenden Springs.

37 year old Wilbur Wheeler, of Ravenden, Arkansas was going through a curve when he crossed the centerline and struck the front of an oncoming tractor trailer.

Wheeler was killed in the wreck. No injuries were listed for the driver of the tractor trailer.

Officials say that the crash resulted in Highway 90 being closed for a period of time on Wednesday. 

OVER THREE MILLION DOLLARS AWARDED TO THREE SOUTHEAST MISSOURI COUNTIES

A total of over three million dollars will be coming to Southeast Missouri to help communities in three counties.

The Department of Economic Development announced Wednesday it will award $41.2 million through its Community Development Block Grant COVID-19 program to 41 Missouri communities to help them prevent, prepare for, and respond to the lasting effects of COVID-19.

Carter County will receive over $363,000 for renovations at the Carter County Nutrition Center.

Ripley County was awarded over 1.8 million dollars for improvements at the Ripley County Jail as well as improvements to the water distribution systems for Public Water Supply District number one and two.

Wayne County was granted over 1.1 million dollars for broadband infrastructure development along with renovations to the Wayne County Nutrition Center. 

KENNETT ELIMINATED IN CLASS FOUR STATE BASEBALL SEMIFINALS

The Kennett Indians will be playing today for Third Place in the Class 4 State Baseball tournament.

Kennett was eliminated Wednesday in the Class 4 State Semifinals by Logan-Rogersville 11-1.

The Class 4 third place game is scheduled to begin this morning at 10 am where Kennett will take on the Marshall Owls.

  

MULTIPLE SUMMER FOOD PROGRAMS AVAILABLE FOR FAMILIES IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

Missouri state officials have announced new ways for families to find summer food programs throughout the state.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Summer Food Service Program is designed to provide breakfast, lunch and/or snacks to children living in eligible areas during the summer months and during times of public emergencies, when children do not have access to free or reduced-price meals at school.

Community organizations will serve the meals at schools, churches, parks, swimming pools, YMCA facilities, Boys and Girls Clubs, and other spots where children gather when school is not in session.

The meals are provided to all children, regardless of family income, that attend the meal service location. Children do not have to register and there is no fee to participate in the program.

MISSOURI SAW 11 TRAFFIC FATALITIES OVER MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

A total of 11 people died in traffic fatalities in Missouri over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, only one of the fatalities was in Southeast Missouri.

Troopers investigated a total of 304 crashes which resulted in 115 injuries, both increases from last year’s numbers.

Troopers also made 121 DWI arrests and 79 drug arrests. 

SIX MONTH LONG ROAD PROJECT UNDERWAY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

A six month long road project is underway in New Madrid County.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route H will be closed through Thursday, December 1st as contractor crews replace two bridges.

The section of roadway being closed is located between Route AE and Oak Drive in Matthews.
