HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT TODAY FOR PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

High heat index values will create dangerous conditions for today.

According to the National Weather Service, portions of Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas will be under a heat advisory beginning this morning and continuing through this evening.

Heat index values of up to 106 degrees are expected for today.

Weather officials say that it is possible for isolated to scattered thunderstorms to develop this afternoon, which could be severe with damaging wind gusts.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN CHARGED WITH KIDNAPPING

Updating a story we brought to you yesterday, a Poplar Bluff man has been charged in connection to an alleged kidnapping earlier this week.

18 year old Keaton Rexroad is in custody in the Butler County Justice Center on a charge of 1st degree kidnapping. His bond was set at $50,000.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News that on Monday, Rexroad allegedly assaulted and kidnapped a woman by force from a residence on Century Avenue in Butler County.

The woman was found safe and Rexroad was arrested later Monday afternoon. 

PEMISCOT COUNTY MAN TO APPEAR IN COURT TOMORROW ON KIDNAPPING CHARGE

A Caruthersville man will appear in court tomorrow on a kidnapping charge.

According to Missouri Case Net, a warrant was served Tuesday on Dustin Rawlings for the felony charges of 1st degree kidnapping and 1st degree assault.

The charges stem from an alleged incident on June 18th in Caruthersville.

No bond was set for Rawlings and his arraignment has been scheduled for Thursday morning. 

SIX JUVENILES TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER GUNS AND DRUGS FOUND IN VEHICLE

Multiple juveniles were recently taken into custody after guns and drugs were found in a vehicle.

Officials with the Hayti Police Department tell KWOC News that at around 1 am Saturday morning officers located a vehicle parked on the walking track at the baseball field.

While investigating the vehicle, officers learned that it was occupied by six juveniles ranging in age from 13 to 16 years old.

Officers also located and seized two loaded handguns as well as marijuana.

Officials say that the juveniles were taken into custody and turned over to the Pemiscot County Juvenile Office for prosecution. 

FOOD PANTRY SCHEDULED FOR TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF

A free food distribution event for families will be held today in Poplar Bluff.

The ABC Food Pantry has been scheduled for 12:30 to 2 pm this afternoon at the Bread Shed on South D Street.

Attendees are asked to bring their own box, bag, or laundry basket to hold your food. 

DRAINAGE REPAIRS TO CAUSE DELAYS TODAY ON ROUTE AA IN BUTLER COUNTY

Route AA in Butler County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform drainage repairs. 

The work zone will be located from County Road 623 to County Road 621. 

Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
