ARKANSAS MAN ARRESTED ON SEXUAL MISCONDUCT CHARGE IN POPLAR BLUFF

An Arkansas man has been taken into custody on multiple sexual misconduct charges. 

Officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tell KWOC News that 47 year old Joel Griffith, of Salem, Arkansas, was arrested Saturday morning in connection to multiple reports that he was acting inappropriately in a public setting.

Griffith was booked on three charges of 1st degree sexual misconduct and lodged in the Butler County Jail. 

TWO INDIVIDUALS FOUND DEAD IN GIDEON HOME

Two people were found dead over the weekend in a Southeast Missouri residence.

According to the Gideon Police Department, officers were contacted on Saturday to request a well being check at an area home.

An officer made entry into the residence and discovered two individuals who were deceased.

Officials say no foul play is suspected in the deaths and the names of the individuals are not being released at this time. 

FIVE LADY RAIDER BASKETBALL PLAYERS NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICANS

Five members of the Three Rivers College Lady Raiders basketball team have been named as Academic All-Americans.

Forward Ahniya Melton was named as a 1st team Academic All-American.

Gracie Price and Makenzi Davis were both chosen for the 2nd team Academic All-American Squad, while Autumn Dodd and Jenna McMillen were named 3rd team Academic All-Americans.

In addition to their accomplishments off the court, the women also were instrumental in leading the Lady Raiders to a number one national ranking this past season along with a number one seed in the NJCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. 

MISSOURI HIGHLANDS HEALTH CARE IS COLLECTING ITEMS TO DISTRIBUTE TO LOCAL SHELTERS

An area non-profit organization is collecting personal care items to distribute to local shelters.

Missouri Highlands Health Care is hosting a hygiene drive through July 29th. Officials say that the most needed items are deodorant, soap, dental care, hair care, feminine needs, toilet paper, and sunscreen.

Donations can be dropped off at any Missouri Highlands Healthcare facility during office hours. The personal care items will be donated to local shelters and Missouri Highlands Healthcare programs for those in need.

INVESTIGATION ONGOING INTO SHOOTING OF NORTHERN ARKANSAS SHERIFF’S EMPLOYEE

An investigation is ongoing into the death of a sheriff’s department employee in Northern Arkansas.

Officials with the Arkansas State Police tell KWOC News that 57 year old Kristy Marie Taylor was found dead in the driveway of her home near Salem, Saturday evening.

Taylor, who was an employee of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, had been shot and her body was transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory.

Special Agents of the state police Criminal Investigation Division were contacted by Fulton County authorities requesting the investigation.

RAMP FROM INTERSTATE 55 TO INTERSTATE 155 TO BE CLOSED FOR THE REST OF THIS MONTH

A ramp from Northbound Interstate 55 to Northbound Interstate 155 in Pemiscot County will be closed beginning today.   

Officials with the Missouri Department of Transportation say that the Exit 17B ramp is being closed so contractor crews can perform a concrete replacement.

Weather permitting, the ramp will be closed through Friday, July 29th, but officials are hoping that the crews can get the project completed ahead of schedule.
