ONE DEAD FOLLOWING SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK IN STODDARD COUNTY
A Bertrand man has died following a single vehicle wreck Thursday morning in Stoddard County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred when 49 year old Maurice Morgan was driving on Route Y, near Aquilla, and his vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a ditch, and overturned.
Morgan was pronounced dead at the scene by Stoddard County Coroner Brent Stidham.
Two passengers in the vehicle were injured in the wreck. One of the passengers suffered serious injuries and was flown to a St. Louis hospital. The other passenger received minor injuries.
MULTIPLE NOMINATION RACES TO BE DECIDED TUESDAY IN STODDARD COUNTY
There are multiple races for Republican nominations that will be decided on Tuesday in Stoddard County.
The Missouri Primary election will be held on August 2nd.
In Stoddard County, Sawyer Smith will be challenging Russ Oliver for the Republican nomination for Prosecuting Attorney. Ronnie Alsup and Greg Mathis are both running for Presiding Commissioner.
The County Clerk race will see Cecil Weeks taking on Deana Moore Pennington, while Leanne Brady will face Paula Yancey for the nomination for Circuit Clerk.
Two candidates are running for the GOP nomination for the Missouri House of Representatives seat for the 149th District, which covers all of New Madrid County and Mississippi County, along with part of Northeastern Pemiscot County.
The two candidates running for the nomination are Donnie Brown and Eric Garris.
MID CONTINENT STEEL AND WIRE HIRING EVENT TO BE HELD TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF
A hiring event will be held today for a prominent employer in Poplar Bluff.
Mid Continent Steel and Wire will be hosting the hiring event today from 11 am to 2 pm at the Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce.
Multiple positions are available, including machine operators and machine mechanics, along with truck drivers for the van and flatbed divisions.
Company officials will be at the event to do on the spot interviews.

TODAY IS THE FINAL DAY TO REGISTER FOR FALL BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL IN POPLAR BLUFF
Now is the time to register your children for fall baseball and softball in Poplar Bluff.
According to the Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation office, today is the final day for boys and girls ages three to 13 to be registered for the youth fall baseball and softball seasons.
Players will be placed in leagues based on their age.
Registration forms are available at the Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation office on North Second Street and online at pbparks.org.

ROAD PROJECT TO BEGIN MONDAY ON SHELBY ROAD IN POPLAR BLUFF
The Poplar Bluff Street Department will be working on Shelby Road beginning on Monday.
Officials say that the inside Northbound lane of Shelby Road will be closed while crews do repairs to the concrete. Once complete, the crews will then move to the outside northbound lane.
The work zone will be located over Pike Creek, north of Route PP.
There will be a speed limit reduction at the work zone and motorists are being asked to use caution while driving in the work area.
CREWS REDUCING ROUTE O IN STODDARD COUNTY FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS
Route O in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane with a 12 foot width restriction through the middle of next month as contractor crews perform pavement repairs.
The section of roadway to be reduced is located from Route P to Route 25 near Advance.
Weather permitting, work will be underway from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Thursday, August 18th. Officials say that the work zone will remain in place 24 hours a day until work is completed
