POPLAR BLUFF MULES FOOTBALL SCRIMMAGE SET FOR TONIGHT

The Poplar Bluff Mules football team will be kicking off the fall season tonight.

The Maroon/White Scrimmage game will be held tonight at 7 pm at Fred M. Morrow Stadium. Poplar Bluff Athletics Director Kent Keith tells KWOC News that admission is free, but they will be taking donations to help pay for post game meals after road games.

Donations will also be accepted for the “Lane Savat Memorial Scholarship.

Following the scrimmage, attendees will be able to participate in a Football Meet and Greet, featuring pictures and autographs.

Today’s Talk KWOC 93.3 FM and 930 AM will be covering the scrimmage live tonight beginning at 6:30 pm on the radio and on the KWOC Facebook and Youtube pages. 

PROJECT TO REPLACE BRIDGE OVER BLACK RIVER IN POPLAR BLUFF SET TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK

A project to replace the westbound Business 60 and Pine Street Bridge over the Black River and Union Pacific railroad in Poplar Bluff will begin next week.

Officials with the Missouri Department of Transportation tell KWOC News that construction will begin on Monday, August 15th.

During construction, westbound traffic will be shifted to a head-to-head configuration on the eastbound bridge. The head-to-head configuration will allow one lane of traffic in each direction.

Officials say that Riverview Drive and B Street will be closed during construction, and parking will not be allowed underneath the bridge along Riverview Drive.

The bridge replacement is anticipated to be complete by July 15th, 2023. 

PARAGOULD MAN PRONOUNCED DEAD FOLLOWING TWO VEHICLE WRECK

A Paragould man has died following a two vehicle wreck Wednesday afternoon.

Officials with the Arkansas State Police tell KWOC News that 57 year old Kevin Faughn was driving on Highway 49, shortly before 3 pm Wednesday, when his vehicle traveled across three lanes and hit another vehicle head on.

Faughn was pronounced dead following the wreck. No injuries were listed for the occupants of the second vehicle. 

NAME RELEASED OF WOMAN KILLED IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS WRECK

Officials have released the name of a Paragould woman who was killed in a three vehicle wreck earlier this week.

According to the Arkansas State Police, 26 year old Jace Simpson, of Paragould, was driving on US Highway 49 in Greene County on Tuesday, when his vehicle crossed the center turn lane into the path of a vehicle driven by 49 year old Amber Gill, whose vehicle then struck another vehicle.

Officials say that Gill was killed in the wreck.

Simpson and the driver of the third vehicle were both injured and transported to an area hospital. 

POPLAR BLUFF LIBRARY USES GRANT TO GET STEM KITS FOR AREA CHILDREN

The Poplar Bluff Library has launched a new collection of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Kits geared toward children who are 8 to 12 years old.

Library officials tell us that each kit contains a nonfiction book and two corresponding hands-on learning activities. Topics covered include space, geology, measuring, number patterns, coding, engineering, and more.

The Library received a total of 28 kits from a grant supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

BUTLER COUNTY COMMUNITY OUTREACH DAY SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER

The Butler County Community Outreach Coalition is planning a big event for September.

Community Outreach Day has been scheduled for 10 am to 2 pm on Friday, September 30th at First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff.

Community Outreach Day is described as a one stop event where individuals and families in need can access free services.
