PROJECT TO REPLACE BRIDGE OVER BLACK RIVER IN POPLAR BLUFF SET TO BEGIN TODAY

A project to replace the westbound Business 60 and Pine Street Bridge over the Black River and Union Pacific railroad in Poplar Bluff will begin today.

Officials with the Missouri Department of Transportation tell KWOC News that construction will begin this morning.

During construction, westbound traffic will be shifted to a head-to-head configuration on the eastbound bridge. The head-to-head configuration will allow one lane of traffic in each direction.

Officials say that Riverview Drive and B Street will be closed during construction, and parking will not be allowed underneath the bridge along Riverview Drive.

The bridge replacement is anticipated to be complete by July 15th, 2023. 

POPLAR BLUFF R-1 SCHOOL DISTRICT OPEN HOUSES TO BE HELD THIS WEEK

Parents in Poplar Bluff will have the opportunity to learn more about the schools their children will be attending this fall during a series of open houses scheduled for this week.

Open houses will be held for the Kindergarten along with 7th and 8th grades on Tuesday, August 16th.

The 5th and 6th grade Open Houses will also be on the 16th at the Middle School.

The four elementary schools will be holding their Open Houses on Wednesday, August 17th.

The 4th grade and Poplar Bluff Senior High School open houses will be on Thursday, August 18th. The Technical Career Center will also be hosting an open house on the 18th.

Early Childhood will hold meet the teacher visits from August 17th through the 23rd.

MORE NORTHEAST ARKANSAS SCHOOLS TO RETURN TO CLASSES TODAY

At least seven schools in Northeast Arkansas will be welcoming kids back to classrooms today.

The school year is scheduled to start this morning at the Piggott, Rector, Maynard, Sloan-Hendrix, Greene County Tech, Marmaduke, and Paragould school districts.

In Southeast Missouri, classes will also begin today for students at Three Rivers College. 

Wednesday will see the Pocahontas and Hoxie school districts open their doors for students. 

MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO AN ALLEGED SHOOTING IN MALDEN

Officials in Malden say that a subject is in custody in connection to an alleged shooting.

According to the Malden Department of Public Safety, 27 year old Aaron Cooper, of Malden, allegedly shot at a subject from a vehicle and then fled officers on August 11th.

He was arrested on Friday. 

Cooper is facing numerous charges, including assault 1st degree, armed criminal action, and resisting or interfering with arrest for a felony.

He is being held at the Malden City Jail. 

DEXTER POLICE WARN RESIDENTS TO BE MINDFUL OF FALSE FACEBOOK POSTS

Authorities in Dexter are asking the public to be on the lookout for false and scam Facebook posts.

Somebody recently posted to a Dexter area Facebook group about an alleged child who was wandering around the neighborhood and asking for information.

The Dexter Police Department is warning the public about responding to posts like these.

Officials say that if you are unsure, you can click on the original creator’s profile and see that they may only have one Facebook friend, that they do not have any other posts, or they are located in another country, these are great signs the post is a scam.

If you believe that something posted is real, and you have possible information regarding the post, contact your local law enforcement agency.

MODOT TO BE MAKING DRIVING SURFACE IMPROVEMENTS TODAY IN RIPLEY COUNTY

Missouri Department of Transportation crews will be making driving surface improvements today on Routes P and DD in Ripley County.  

The work zone will be located from Route 142 to the end of state maintenance. 

Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  While work is ongoing, the road will be open to local traffic only.
