MAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHILD PORNOGRAPHY RELATED CHARGES

Authorities have arrested an area man in connection to alleged child pornography.

Randolph County Sheriff Kevin Bell tells KWOC News that earlier this month Sheriff’s Deputies were able to identify a suspect that was downloading child sexual abuse material.

A search warrant was served this week which resulted in the arrest of 48 year old Gary Hayes, of Pocahontas, for five counts of pandering or possessing visual or print medium depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child, and five counts of distributing, possessing, or viewing of matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child. 

Hayes' bond was set at $250,000, cash only. 

Sheriff Bell says that this is an ongoing investigation with the Arkansas State Police Criminal Division and the FBI Jonesboro Field Office.


NEW MEXICO MAN KILLED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 

A New Mexico man has died following a single vehicle wreck in Southeast Missouri.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 58 year old Jose Luna Herrera, of Sunland Park, New Mexico, was driving on Interstate 55 when his vehicle ran off the side of the roadway, struck a guardrail, and then multiple trees.

Herrera was pronounced dead at the scene by Pemiscot County Coroner Brian Irons. 


ROAD WORK SCHEDULED FOR TODAY ON ROUTE BB IN BUTLER COUNTY

Route BB in Butler County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert underneath the roadway. 

The work zone will be located between County Road 338 and County Road 340.

Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.  


MAN FLOWN FROM THE SCENE OF A WRECK NEAR ELLINGTON

One person was injured in a Tuesday afternoon crash near Ellington.

According to the Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred when a vehicle ran off the left side of Missouri Highway 106 and struck a tree.

The driver, identified as 41 year old Trent Baker, of Ellington, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was flown to a St. Louis hospital.


MAN SENTENCED FOR ATTEMPTED ROBBERY OF A CONVENIENCE STORE

A Southeast Missouri man is facing over seven years in prison for the attempted robbery of a convenience store.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office, 39 year old Mark Jones, of Steele pleaded guilty to attempted robbery in October.

Charging documents say Jones tried to rob a convenience store in Caruthersville last May while in possession of a firearm.

On Wednesday, a US District Judge sentenced Jones to seven years and 10 months in prison.


SHOULDER REPAIRS TO BEGIN TODAY NEAR MALDEN

Route J in Dunklin County will be reduced to one lane as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform shoulder repairs. 

The section of roadway to be reduced is located from County Road 109 to County Road 229 near Malden.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. both today and tomorrow.
