SOUTHEAST MISSOURI WOMAN FACING CHARGE OF ENDANGERING THE WELFARE OF A CHILD
A Southeast Missouri woman was taken into custody over the weekend on a charge of endangering the welfare of a child.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, 44 year old Costalina Gray, of Glenallen, was arrested in connection to an infant being found abandoned outside of a residence on West Davis Street in Poplar Bluff.
A neighbor said the infant lived with its parents at the residence, but no one was home at the time the child was found. The infant was transported to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center for care. During the investigation it was determined the child had been left in the care of their grandparent, Gray.
On Sunday, Gray was arrested during a traffic stop.
She was booked on charges of endangering the welfare of a child 1st degree and possession of amphetamine. 69 year old Roger Carnell, of Fisk, was also arrested during the traffic stop on a Mississippi County warrant for possession of a controlled substance.
Both were lodged in the Butler County Jail.
TWO MEMBERS OF THE POPLAR BLUFF FIRE DEPARTMENT RECOGNIZED FOR THEIR WORK
Two members of the Poplar Bluff Fire Department have been recognized for the work they did over the previous year.
According to the PBFD Facebook Page, Captain Chad Bell has been selected as the Poplar Bluff Fire Department Officer of the Year for 2022.
Lieutenant Jon Miller was chosen as the Poplar Bluff Fire Department Firefighter of the Year for 2022.
According to the post, this is the second time both men have received their respective honors.
TWO NORTHEAST ARKANSAS RESIDENTS KILLED IN COLLISION
Two Northeast Arkansas residents were killed in a crash Saturday night.
According to the Arkansas State Police, 22 year old Charles Bradford Miller the third, of Rector, was driving on Arkansas Highway 351 when he lost control of his vehicle on the wet highway.
The vehicle then slid into the opposite lane of traffic and collided with another vehicle.
Both Miller and a passenger in his vehicle, 18 year old Melody Northern, of Paragould, were killed in the wreck.
The driver of the second vehicle was injured and transported to an area hospital.
50th ANNIVERSARY OF POPLAR BLUFF WRESTLING TO BE CELEBRATED TONIGHT
A celebration is being planned for tonight as a part of a Poplar Bluff wrestling meet.
Poplar Bluff Athletics Director Kent Keith tells KWOC News that a special program will be held tonight in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Poplar Bluff Wrestling.
There will be a presentation for the first PBHS wrestling Ring of Honor inductee, Coach Terry Smith, beginning at 7 pm. A reception has also been scheduled for after the match between Poplar Bluff and Kennett.
MAJOR BUTLER COUNTY HIGHWAY TO BE REDUCED TODAY
Route 53 in Butler County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform shoulder work.
The section of Route 53 to be reduced is located from County Road 647 to County Road 658 near Qulin.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
BLOOMFIELD MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG AND WEAPON CHARGES
A Bloomfield man was taken into custody over the weekend on drug and weapon charges.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 73 year old Norman Manker was arrested Saturday on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance methamphetamine and unlawful use of a weapon.
Manker is also facing charges of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding.
Following the arrest, he was held at the Stoddard County Jail.
