NAYLOR SCHOOLS TO BE OUT FOR THE REST OF THIS WEEK DUE TO ILLNESS
Widespread illness has forced the cancellation of classes for the rest of this week in a Southeast Missouri School District.
Officials with the Naylor R-2 School District say that school will be dismissed from today through Friday of this week. On Monday, teachers sent home AMI work or instructions to access work home with the students who were present.
If your child was absent and did not receive their work or know how to access it, they can follow up with teachers next week to get caught up.
PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY A VEHICLE IN BUTLER COUNTY
A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle late Sunday night in Butler County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 37 year old Jeremy Lynn, of Poplar Bluff, was hit by a vehicle on Butler County Road 450, shortly before 9:30 pm.
Lynn suffered serious injuries during the incident and was flown to a St. Louis hospital.
According to the Highway Patrol, the driver of the vehicle, 53 year old Kimberly Trice, of Poplar Bluff, is facing a charge of driving while intoxicated.
AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATING MULTIPLE INTENTIONAL FIRES SET ON SATURDAY IN POPLAR BLUFF
Authorities are investigating multiple intentional fires set Saturday in Poplar Bluff.
According to the Poplar Bluff Fire Department, crews responded to a single story structure fire on Henderson Avenue, a large two story structure fire on Main Street, and a dumpster fire at the Butler County Courthouse on Main Street.
No injuries have been reported in connection to the fires, which are under investigation by the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office.
TWO KILLED IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS CRASH
Two people were killed in a single vehicle crash over the weekend in Paragould.
According to the Arkansas State Police, the crash occurred Sunday night when a vehicle driven by 37 year old Ellen Clardy, of Paragould, failed to negotiate a curve on Purcell Road and struck an embankment.
Clardy was killed in the crash, as was a passenger, 35 year old Reanna Hewison, also of Paragould.
HEAD JAILER IN CLAY COUNTY FIRED AFTER METHAMPHETAMINE ARREST
The Head Jailer of the Clay County Detention Center has been fired following her arrest on drug related charges.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, last week Clay County Detention staff noticed Head Jailer 55 year old Tammy Miller-Spears taking a female inmate into an employee restroom, which was not policy or procedure.
Immediately after, Miller-Spears clocked out and left the facility. Sheriff’s Department personnel reviewed the camera footage and then notified the Corning Police Department.
A Corning police officer later conducted a stop on Miller-Spears’ vehicle for doing 71 in a 45 mph zone. During a search of the vehicle, the officer found a substance that tested positive to be methamphetamine.
Miller-Spears was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was transported to the Clay County Detention Center.
Clay County Sheriff Ronnie Cole says that Miller-Spears has been terminated as head jailer of the Clay County Detention Center.
VETERAN WREATH PLACEMENT CEREMONY SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND
Wreaths will be placed on the graves of veterans this weekend.
On December 16th the Poplar Bluff Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, in cooperation with Wreaths Across America, will hold a ceremony at the Poplar Bluff Memorial Gardens Cemetery to honor veterans buried there.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11 am.
Everyone is invited to attend the ceremony, which will be followed by placing wreaths on veteran’s graves.
