PUXICO MAN ACCUSED OF ASSAULTING HOSPITAL PERSONNEL

A Puxico man is in custody following an alleged assault at an area hospital.

According to a probable cause affidavit, on Monday, Dexter Police officers learned of a combative patient at an area emergency room.

It was reported that the subject, identified as 25 year old Ryan Miller, had been transported to the emergency room for an unrelated assault earlier in the evening.

He became violent at the emergency room and was combative with several staff members. One nurse suffered a fractured hip during the altercation, while a security officer was bitten on the left tricep and punched in the back of the head. Two other nurses were also hit during the incident.

Miller was arrested on a warrant for three counts of 3rd degree assault - special victim and a single count of 2nd degree assault - special victim.

No bond was set and he is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning.

MAN FLOWN FROM THE SCENE OF A MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVOLVING A DEER

A man was flown from the scene of a motorcycle crash Wednesday morning in Wayne County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 65 year old Donald Smith, of Williamsville, was driving a motorcycle on Missouri Highway 49 when he struck a deer in the roadway.

After hitting the deer, the motorcycle ran off the roadway and overturned.

Smith suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was flown to a St. Louis hospital.

POACHING INVESTIGATION LEADS TO TWO ARRESTS IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

A poaching investigation has resulted in two arrests in Southeast Missouri.

According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, a Wayne County conservation agent recently conducted an investigation into deer poaching in Wayne and Reynolds Counties.

Two suspects have been charged with taking deer in closed season, taking deer with the aid of artificial light, taking deer with aid of a motor vehicle, taking deer from public roadway, wanton waste, trespassing, and the illegal possession and transport of deer.

The names of the two suspects were not released.

Officials say that anyone who witnesses or has information on potential poaching is asked to contact Operation Game Thief at 1-800-392-1111.

POPLAR BLUFF CHURCH TO CONDUCT ANNUAL CHRISTMAS GIFT GIVEAWAY

WINTER DRAWDOWN SCHEDULED AT WAPPAPELLO LAKE

The date has been announced for the annual winter drawdown at Wappapello Lake.

According to the United States Army Corps of Engineers, the drawdown from recreation pool to conservation pool will begin on December 29th.

Officials say the lake level is drawn down five feet, from 359.74 feet to 354.74 feet, which allows for additional storage of winter and spring precipitation.

During the conservation pool, boaters are urged to use caution when on the lake as mud flats and tree stumps may be exposed or be just under the water surface.

Beginning near the beginning of April next year, the lake level will be gradually allowed to rise until the recreation pool is reached near the first of May.

PORTAGEVILLE WOMAN APPOINTED TO DELTA REGIONAL AUTHORITY BY GOVERNOR PARSON

A Portageville woman has been appointed by Governor Mike Parson to serve as Missouri’s Designee to the Delta Regional Authority.

Lesley Rone, Southeast Regional Manager for the Division of Regional Engagement, was selected for the position.

The DRA invests in projects supporting transportation infrastructure, basic public infrastructure, workforce training, and business development in 252 counties and parishes in parts of eight states, including Missouri and Arkansas.

Rone is a native of Southeast Missouri and holds a master’s degree in communications from the University of Kansas and a bachelor’s degree from Missouri State University.

Prior to joining the Department of Economic Development, she served as a field representative for Senator Roy Blunt and worked closely with both DRA and local communities. Rone has also previously worked in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in Washington, D.C.
