ANOTHER SCHOOL TO MISS CLASSES DUE TO SICKNESS

Sickness is affecting another school in Southeast Missouri.

Doniphan School officials have announced that the Doniphan R-1 School District will be closed on Friday. Classes will resume on Monday, December 18th.

Officials say that student attendance is low, but the faculty has also been hit hard, making it difficult to provide coverage for all classes.

LADY ROYALS CHRISTMAS CLASSIC TO BEGIN ON SATURDAY

16 women’s basketball teams will be traveling to Broseley this weekend for the beginning of the 26th Annual Lady Royals Christmas Classic.

The tournament is scheduled to run from December 16th through the 23rd at Twin Rivers High School and will feature numerous area schools.

Eight first round matchups will be played on Saturday starting off with top seed and defending champion Doniphan taking on Senath-Hornersville at 10 am, followed by Poplar Bluff facing Greenville at 11:15 am, Neelyville taking on Hayti at 12:30 pm, and Portageville facing Malden at 1:45 pm.

The second half of Saturday’s slate will feature East Carter vs. Naylor at 3 pm, Twin Rivers battling Piggott at 4:15 pm, Kennett taking on New Madrid County Central at 5:30 pm, and wrapping up with Dexter and Holcomb at 6:45 pm.

NEW STATE TROOPERS ASSIGNED TO SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

Two new State Troopers have been assigned to Southeast Missouri.

Colonel Eric Olson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, tells KWOC News that 25 troopers will graduate from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy on Friday, December 22nd.

Two of the graduates will be coming to Southeast Missouri.

Brady Hart, of Puxico, and Gunner Meloy, of Marble Hill, were both assigned to cover Butler and Ripley Counties.

The new troopers will report to duty in Troop E on Monday, January 8th.

SOUNDS OF CHRISTMAS BEGINS THIS WEEKEND AT THE PALACE OF PRAISE

A Poplar Bluff church’s annual Christmas themed play will begin this weekend.

The Palace of Praise is presenting the 14th Annual Sounds of Christmas nightly from December 17th through the 20th beginning at 7 pm each night.

Admission to the show is free.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT TO HOST PHOTO SESSION WITH SANTA THIS WEEKEND

The Poplar Bluff Police Department is giving area children a chance to get their photos taken with Santa this weekend.

From 2 to 6 pm on Saturday, the PBPD will be hosting a Christmas photo session with Santa.

Officials say that there also might be an appearance by the Grinch as well.

The event is brought to you by the Poplar Bluff Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #48, who are responsible for such programs as Shop with a Hero.

The FOP will be accepting $5 donations during the photo session.

8TH ANNUAL LIGHTED CHRISTMAS PARADE SCHEDULED FOR THIS MONTH IN ELLSINORE

The 8th Annual Lighted Christmas Parade has been scheduled for this Saturday in Ellsinore.

Line up will begin at 6 pm at the East Carter County elementary school parking lot. The parade will start at 6:30 pm.

After the parade Santa will be available for pictures and awards will be given out for the best floats.
