POPLAR BLUFF MAN ACCUSED OF TAKING A WOMAN HOSTAGE FOR MULTIPLE DAYS

A Poplar Bluff man is facing multiple charges after being accused of taking a woman hostage.

According to a Probable Cause Affidavit, a Poplar Bluff Police Officer was dispatched to an area business on Saturday in reference to an assault.

At the scene, the victim told the officer that her boyfriend had held her hostage for two days at her home and assaulted her, including hitting her with a sledgehammer.

The boyfriend, identified as 39 year old Floyd Williams, of Poplar Bluff, was later located by police officers and attempted to run.

He was taken into custody and is facing felony charges of 1st degree kidnapping, 2nd degree domestic assault, armed criminal action, and resisting an arrest, detention, or stop by fleeing.

Williams is being held in the Butler County Justice Center.

DONIPHAN AND NEELYVILLE ADVANCE AT LADY ROYALS CHRISTMAS CLASSIC

The first semi-final has been set at the 26th Annual Lady Royals Christmas Classic basketball tournament.

Both Doniphan and Neelyville picked up wins Monday in the tournament quarterfinals.

In the consolation game on Monday, Greenville defeated Senath-Hornersville.

The quarterfinals will continue today with East Carter facing Twin Rivers at 6 pm and Kennett taking on Dexter at 7:30 pm. In the consolation bracket, Hayti will challenge Malden.

KENNETT MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER BRINGING GUN TO SCHOOL

A Kennett student has been taken into custody after bringing a gun to school.

Kennett Chief of Police Kenny Wilson tells KWOC News that Monday morning, Kennett Middle School Principal Nathan Baker was alerted by a student that another student in the school was in possession of a firearm.

The 12 year old student was taken into custody by the principal and officers.

They were then turned over to authorities with the juvenile office and transported to the Bloomfield Detention Center pending the filing of charges.

DONIPHAN R-1 SCHOOL DISTRICT TO BEGIN WINTER BREAK EARLY DUE TO SICKNESS

A Southeast Missouri school district will be beginning their winter break a little earlier than planned.

Officials with the Doniphan R-1 School District announced on Monday that Doniphan R-1 schools will be closed on December 19th and 20th due to sickness affecting both students and staff.

Students will return to school after the Christmas break on January 4th and will receive AMI assignments to complete for the two days that will be dismissed this week.

UNITED GOSPEL RESCUE MISSION TO PROVIDE CHRISTMAS MEALS

Preparations are underway for the United Gospel Rescue Mission’s Christmas Meal.

The Rescue Mission in Poplar Bluff will be providing meals on Monday, December 25th and is asking for support from the community.

Officials say that they need volunteers to help prepare meals starting at 9 am on December 21st and 22nd. On Christmas Day, the Rescue Mission will also need assistance to prepare, serve, and deliver the meals.

STODDARD COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR CULVERT REPLACEMENT

Route BB in Stoddard County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert along the roadway.

The section of roadway being closed is located between Route C and County Road 208 near Advance.

Weather permitting, work will take place today from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
