ALL TOP SEEDS ADVANCE IN FIRST ROUND OF LADY ROYALS CHRISTMAS CLASSIC
The first round is over at the 26th Annual Lady Royals Christmas Classic basketball tournament.
Top seed Doniphan easily dispatched Senath-Hornersville in the opening game of the tournament on Saturday 74-18.
Poplar Bluff, Neelyville, and host Twin Rivers also picked up wins.
Naylor forfeited their first round matchup against East Carter, after classes were canceled for most of last week due to illness.
Three games are on the docket for today including two quarterfinal matchups featuring Doniphan taking on Poplar Bluff and Neelville facing Portageville.

FAIRDEALING MAN FLOWN FROM THE SCENE OF A CRASH NEAR POPLAR BLUFF
A Fairdealing man was flown from the scene of a weekend crash in Butler County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 25 year old Michael Lady was driving a side by side on Butler County Road 448, near Poplar Bluff, when the vehicle ran off the side of the roadway and struck a tree.
The crash occurred at around 3:30 am Sunday morning.
Lady suffered serious injuries and was flown to a Jonesboro hospital.
TWO KILLED IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS WRECK
Two people have died following a crash in Northeast Arkansas.
According to Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder, shortly before 8:30 am Friday morning, Paragould Emergency Services received multiple 911 calls of a serious crash at the intersection of Highway 351 and County Road 721.
When emergency responders arrived on scene, they found one vehicle with a driver who had serious injuries. The other vehicle involved was engulfed in flames.
Snyder says that two fatalities have been confirmed in connection to the crash. According to the Arkansas State Police, the bodies could not be identified.
The injured driver was airlifted to a Memphis hospital for treatment.
FIRST ROUND MATCHUPS SET FOR 36TH ANNUAL POPLAR BLUFF SHOWDOWN
The first round matchups have been set for the 36th Annual Poplar Bluff Showdown.
The three day tournament will start on Thursday, December 28th at Poplar Bluff High School.
The first round will see McCracken County take on Vilonia at 4 pm, followed by New Madrid County Central vs. Germantown at 5:30 pm, Poplar Bluff against Memphis East at 7 pm, and the day will finish with Christian Brothers vs. Urbana at 8:30 pm.
Poplar Bluff Athletics Director Kent Keith tells KWOC News that tickets are on sale in the High School Athletic Department for eight dollars per day.

PUBLIC HEARING SET FOR TODAY TO DISCUSS POPLAR BLUFF GRANT APPLICATION
A public hearing will be held today to discuss the submission of Poplar Bluff’s application for a FEMA Building Resilient Infrastructure and Community Grant.
The City of Poplar Bluff will be applying for funds to drill and install a new well near the water storage tank on Alice Street. The total project cost is estimated at $1.3 million dollars.
The hearing has been scheduled for 6:45 pm in the Poplar Bluff City Council Chambers at the Black River Coliseum.
BRIDGE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK IN NEW MADRID COUNTY
Route D in New Madrid County will be closed for part of this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge maintenance.
The section of roadway being closed is located between Route E and Route MM near Lilbourn.
Weather permitting, work will begin this morning at 8 a.m. with completion anticipated by 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
