POPLAR BLUFF MAN SENTENCED TO 35 YEARS FOR MALDEN MURDER

A Poplar Bluff man has been sentenced to over three decades in prison for the shooting death of a man in Malden.

Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Nicholas Jain tells KWOC News that 35 year old David Anderson was convicted of 2nd degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon in October for the March 2018 shooting death of 46 year old Geoffrey Wright, of Malden.

An eyewitness told police that Anderson approached Wright and after their brief conversation became heated, Anderson shot Wright multiple times. Anderson fled the scene and was arrested in Hayti Heights the following day.

On Monday, Anderson was sentenced to 25 years in prison for murder in the second degree and 10 years in prison for unlawful use of a weapon.

MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL REMINDS MOTORISTS TO DRIVE SAFE OVER CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to drive safely during the Christmas holiday weekend.

Remember to check your vehicle before you travel to ensure that it is in good working condition. Make sure you are well rested before driving to your destination, no matter how short the distance.

According to the Highway Patrol, last year there were 1,017 traffic crashes during the Christmas counting period. In those crashes, four people were killed and another 318 were injured.

The Christmas holiday counting period begins at 6 pm on Friday and ends at 11:59 pm on Monday, December 25th.

Motorists should use this number if they are in a traffic crash, witness a crash or crime, or observe a stranded motorist in need of assistance, or other traffic emergencies.

GRANTS APPROVED FOR PROGRAMS IN POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOL DISTRICT

Multiple projects in the Poplar Bluff School District have been approved to get grant money.

According to school officials, The Poplar Bluff School Foundation unanimously approved $3,000 in grant money to go to four separate projects.

The projects approved included gaming computers and materials to refurbish a tower garden at the High School; and an incubator/brooder box, along with a throwable microphone at O’Neal Elementary.

The largest grant approved this cycle was $1,850 for five PCs with monitors so the newly established Esports Club at PBHS can practice for competition during the spring season under the Missouri Scholastic Esports Federation.

BERNIE MAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE METH RELATED CHARGES

A Bernie man was taken into custody Wednesday morning on multiple drug related charges.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 53 year old Douglas Stinson was arrested shortly before 10 am on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance and delivery of a controlled substance for methamphetamine.

Stinson is also facing charges of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding.

Following the arrest, he was held at the Stoddard County Jail.

SHOULDER REPAIRS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY

Route 153 in Stoddard County will be reduced beginning today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform shoulder repairs.

The section of roadway being reduced is located from Route A to Route 114.

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Friday, January 19th, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
