36TH ANNUAL POPLAR BLUFF SHOWDOWN TIPS OFF TODAY
The 36th Annual Poplar Bluff Showdown will tip off this afternoon at Poplar Bluff High School.
The first round will see McCracken County take on Vilonia at 4 pm, followed by New Madrid County Central vs. Germantown at 5:30 pm, Poplar Bluff against Memphis East at 7 pm, and the day will finish with Christian Brothers vs. Urbana at 8:30 pm.
Poplar Bluff Athletics Director Kent Keith tells KWOC News that tickets are on sale for eight dollars per day.
Every game of the 36th Annual Poplar Bluff Showdown will be broadcast live on Facebook.com/TodaysTalkKWOC and youtube.com/RiverRadioPB.
Live audio coverage will also be provided for every Poplar Bluff game on Today’s Talk KWOC 93.3 FM and 930 AM.
DEADLINE APPROACHING TO PAY YOUR PROPERTY TAX
The new year is approaching fast, which means that it is time to pay your personal property tax.
Butler County Collector Emily Parks tells KWOC News that the Collector’s office will be open today and tomorrow from 8 am to 4 pm.
You can also pay your property tax online at ButlerCountyMO.com.
Parks says that interest and penalties are added to the amount due at the beginning of each month for anyone who misses the deadline.
THREE FILE FOR POPLAR BLUFF CITY COUNCIL WARD 2 RACE
The next few months will see a race between three candidates for a spot on the Poplar Bluff City Council.
According to Poplar Bluff City Hall, David Boyer, Mack Campbell, and Marty Paskel have all filed to be the representative of Ward 2 on the City Council.
Current Ward 2 Councilwoman and Mayor Pro Tem Jerrica Fox did not file for reelection.
Two other current Council members will not have challenges for reelection, Ward 4 Councilman and current Poplar Bluff Mayor
Shane Cornman as well as Councilman At Large Billy DePew.
The Missouri General Municipal Election Day has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 2nd.
POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE WARRANTS
A Poplar Bluff man was taken into custody Tuesday night on multiple warrants as well as a drug charge.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, 23 year old Aron Atkisson was arrested at an area residence on a charge of possession of methamphetamine as well as eight separate Poplar Bluff Municipal warrants for failure to appear on traffic offenses.
Atkisson was lodged in the Butler County Jail and his bond was set at $4,500.
TWO SOUTHEAST MISSOURI RESIDENTS GRADUATE FROM HIGHWAY PATROL LAW ENFORCEMENT ACADEMY
Two new State Troopers will be reporting to Southeast Missouri early next year.
Colonel Eric Olson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, tells KWOC News that 25 troopers graduated from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy on Friday, December 22nd.
Two of the graduates are coming to Southeast Missouri.
Troopers Brady Hart, of Puxico, and Gunner Meloy, of Marble Hill, were both assigned to cover Butler and Ripley Counties.
The new troopers will report to duty in Troop E on Monday, January 8th.
DEXTER MAN FACING METH RELATED CHARGE
A Dexter man is facing a meth charge following his arrest this week.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 56 year old Kenneth Anderson was taken into custody Tuesday night on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine.
Anderson is also facing charges of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to display valid plates.
