MAJOR LAKE WAPPAPELLO CAMPGROUND TO BE CLOSED DURING THE 2023 RECREATION SEASON

A major campground at Lake Wappapello will be closed for the 2023 Recreation Season.

According to the US Army Corps of Engineers, the Redman Creek East Campground will remain closed during the 2023 Recreation Season due to ongoing construction and major rehabilitation.

The work in the campground includes replacement of utilities on many sites, 50-amp RV electrical service, water and sewer RV hookups at the campsite, and new concrete campsite impact pads, among other improvements.

In addition, the renovation will include the replacement of the shower house and restroom.

Redman Creek West Campground will remain open for camping, however due to the closure of the Redman Creek fee booth all campsites will be available by reservation only. Reservations must be made online by visiting Recreation.gov, or by phone at 1-877-444-6777.

TODAY IS THE FINAL DAY FOR EARLY REGISTRATION FOR THE 17th ANNUAL CHILI COOK-OFF

Today is the final day for early registration to compete in the Mason-Dixon Chili Society’s 17th annual Chili Cook-Off.

The event will be held from 11 am to 2 pm on Saturday, February 25th at the Black River Coliseum. Admission is free and a cook’s party will be held the day before the event.

The participation fee is $100 per booth if you register by today. Starting tomorrow, the registration fee will be $125 per booth. Proceeds from the Cook-Off go to benefit the United Gospel Rescue Mission.

HUNTERS AND ANGLERS REMINDED THAT ANNUAL PERMITS EXPIRE AT THE END OF THE MONTH

Missouri annual permits for various game and fish will expire at the end of the month.

The Missouri Department of Conservation is reminding Missouri hunters and anglers that related annual permits expire at the end of February, including 2022 permits for small game, fishing, trout fishing, and combination hunting and fishing.

Anyone wanting to purchase a permit can do so at vendors around the state, online at mdc.mo.gov/BuyPermits, or through MDC’s free mobile apps, MO Hunting and MO fishing. 

Commercial and lifetime permits can be purchased only through the MDC Permit Services Unit by calling 573-522-0107 for an application.

 

DRIVER EXAMINATION STATIONS TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR WASHINGTON’S BIRTHDAY

Driver examinations will not be available across Missouri today due to the holiday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, driver examination stations throughout the state will be closed today in observance of Washington’s Birthday.

Officials say that normal operations will resume on Tuesday. 

ROADSIDE WORK SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK NEAR CAMPBELL

Route H in Dunklin County will be reduced to one lane with a 10 foot width restriction for this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform roadside work. 

According to officials, the work zone is located from County Road 200 to County Road 206 near Campbell.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through Friday, February 24th. 

THREE WEEK LONG ROAD PROJECT SET TO BEGIN TODAY ON INTERSTATE 155

Northbound Interstate 155 in Pemiscot County will be reduced with a 10-foot width restriction for three weeks as contractor crews perform concrete work.  

Officials with the Missouri Department of Transportation tell KWOC News that the section of roadway to be reduced is located from the Tennessee State line to mile marker 9.4.

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Monday, March 13th from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
