PURSUIT LEADS TO DRUG AND GUN BUST IN CLAY COUNTY

Two people are in custody following a pursuit on Sunday morning. 

Clay County Sheriff Ronnie Cole tells KWOC News that at approximately 9:40 AM Sunday, a deputy was traveling westbound on Highway 328 when he observed a red vehicle on his side of the roadway headed toward him, almost hitting him. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and as he approached the vehicle, the vehicle took off. 

The deputy initiated a pursuit and reported that the vehicle had a speed of around 100 mph. The driver eventually lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll over. 

A female subject, later identified as 31 year old Amanda Smith, was thrown from the vehicle into a field. A male subject, later identified as  22 year old Jacob Woods, jumped out of the vehicle and tried to run. He was then apprehended by the deputy. Both subjects were flown to area hospitals for treatment. 

Sheriff Cole says deputies recovered an AR-15, what is believed to be drugs, and an amount of cash during the investigation. 

Both subjects are being charged with felony simultaneous drugs and firearms, felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm by a certain person. 

OAK RIDGE BOYS TO BE IN POPLAR BLUFF TONIGHT FOR 2023 VALENTINES FOR VETERANS CONCERT

The 2023 Valentines for Veterans concert is tonight in Poplar Bluff. 

According to the Wake Foundation, the concert, featuring the Oak Ridge Boys, will be held at the Black River Coliseum, with doors opening at 5 pm.  

Officials say that over 5,000 tickets have been given away to veterans and their families for the event.

POPLAR BLUFF ROAD TO BE CLOSED THIS WEEK

A Poplar Bluff road will be closed over the next few days. 

According to Municipal Utilities, sewer repairs will cause the closure of Ida Street from Tuesday through Friday. 

The closure will be located between Spring Street and Tremont Street. 

EXPLOSIVE DEVICE FOUND IN SOUTHERN MISSOURI VEHICLE

One man is in custody after an active explosive device was discovered in his vehicle. 

According to the Howell County Sheriff’s Office, shortly after 7 am on Sunday, dispatch received a report of a vehicle stopped on a county road with a male subject slumped over the steering wheel. 

Deputies responded to the location where they made contact with the driver, who had a suspended Missouri Driver’s License.

Deputies located what is believed to be a home-made explosive device in the vehicle. Upon locating the device, Deputies contacted the Missouri State Highway Patrol Bomb Squad in Jefferson City for assistance. 

Bomb Squad personnel confirmed the device was an active explosive device. Officials say that the device was assessed, moved to a safe location, and rendered safe. 

The subject is being held at the Howell County Adult Detention Center and his name has not been released. 

The investigation into the device is ongoing.

PIEDMONT MAN ARRESTED ON METH CHARGE IN WAYNE COUNTY

Authorities in Wayne County have arrested a Piedmont man on a meth charge. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 61 year old George Hubert was arrested Saturday morning on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine. 

Hubert also reportedly had a felony warrant out of Wayne County for possession of a controlled substance. 

PAVEMENT REPAIRS TO BEGIN TODAY ON ROUTE 67 IN BUTLER COUNTY

Route 67 in Butler County will be reduced over the next few weeks as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs. 

According to officials, the section of roadway being reduced is located from Route MM to the Arkansas state line. 

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Tuesday, March 14th from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
