SEMIFINALS TO START TODAY AT 2023 OZARK FOOTHILLS CONFERENCE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Semifinal matchups are scheduled to begin today at the 2023 Ozark Foothills Conference Basketball Tournament. 

The top seed of the Junior Varsity bracket, Twin Rivers will begin their tournament today at 4:30 pm. 

Both girls varsity semifinals are also scheduled for today, with the first game starting at 6:00 pm. The boys varsity semifinal games will be played on Tuesday. 

Every game of the tournament, including boys’ varsity and junior varsity games along with girls’ games, will be broadcast live on the Today’s Talk KWOC Facebook page at facebook.com/TodaysTalkKWOC and the River Radio Youtube page at youtube.com/RiverRadioPB.

POPLAR BLUFF CITY GOVERNMENT RELEASES YEAR IN REVIEW FOR 2022 

The City of Poplar Bluff is promoting the accomplishments of the various branches of the city government over 2022.

The city has released its 2022 year in review online at poplarbluff-mo.gov.

Poplar Bluff Municipal Utilities was busy in 2022. The electric department replaced over 250 lights around the city while providing electricity to over 9600 customers.

The water and sewer department delivered 634 million gallons of water while collecting 582 million gallons of sewage.

The Poplar Bluff Fire Department responded to 167 total fires and 144 rescue calls in 2022.

The Poplar Bluff Police Department responded to over 46,000 incidents with an average response time of three minutes and three seconds.

MARATHON SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND TO RAISE MONEY FOR CHILD BATTLING LEUKEMIA

A marathon will be held this weekend to support a child who is fighting cancer.

The Lace up for Lawson run and walk has been scheduled for Saturday, February 11th at McLane Park in Poplar Bluff.

Registration will begin at 8 am, with a one mile run or walk starting at 8:30 am. The 5k, 10k, half, and full marathon will begin at 9 am.

All proceeds from the event will go to support Lawson Lunsford in his battle against leukemia.

OFFICIALS TO CONDUCT INSPECTION OF WAPPAPELLO DAM

The US Army Corps of Engineers at Wappapello Lake will be inspecting the Wappapello dam beginning later this month.

Corps of Engineers officials say that the periodic inspection of the dam, dikes, gatehouse, spillway, and other related structures will begin this month and continue through April 15th.

The purpose of the routine inspection is to inspect all features of the Wappapello Lake project related to the safety, stability, and operational adequacy of the main dam and appurtenant structures.

During the inspection, the lake level will be lowered approximately two feet to allow for dewatering of the dam’s outlet works.

RUN THE LAKE 5K TO BE HELD ON SATURDAY

The Poplar Bluff Trails Coalition has scheduled a 5K race for Saturday.

The Run the Lake 5K will start at 9 am on February 11th.

DRAINAGE WORK SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK IN STODDARD COUNTY

Eastbound Business 60 in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane early this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform drainage work.  

The section of roadway to be reduced is located from Route AD to Harris Drive in Dexter.  

Weather permitting, work will take place Monday through Wednesday of this week from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., daily.
