VEHICLE CRASHES INTO NEELYVILLE SCHOOL BUS, ONE INJURED

A teenager was injured after a vehicle he was driving crashed into a school bus Tuesday morning in Butler County.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that an 18 year old driver from Wappapello was traveling on US Highway 67, two miles north of Neelyville, when he struck the rear of the stopped school bus.

The driver of the vehicle suffered serious injuries and was flown to a Memphis hospital.

No one on the school bus was injured in the wreck.

ROAD WORK SCHEDULED TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK ON MAUD STREET IN POPLAR BLUFF

A major Poplar Bluff road will be closed for road work beginning next week.

Poplar Bluff Street Superintendent Jerry Lawson tells KWOC News that Maud Street will be closed starting on Monday so crews can replace an old storm culvert.

The closure will be located between 12th Street and Ida Street.

Lawson added that the project will take approximately a month to complete.

TRACTOR ROLLS OVER WOMAN NEAR BLOOMFIELD

A Bloomfield woman was flown to an area hospital Tuesday following an incident involving a tractor.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the tractor rolled over 65 year old Balinda Malone on private property located five miles west of Bloomfield. There was no one driving the tractor at the time of the incident.

Malone was transported by air to a Cape Girardeau hospital with moderate injuries.

KENNETT OFFICIALS ASKING FOR HELP IN SUSPECTED ANIMAL CRUELTY CASE

Officials in the Missouri bootheel area asking for the public’s help in a suspected animal cruelty case.

According to the Kennett Humane Department, earlier this week a person brought a seven to eight week old puppy to the office. The person told officials that she was handed a box with the puppy in it and the owner of the puppy stated it had been burned.

The puppy had wounds that appeared consistent with being scalded with hot liquid and had second degree burns covering almost half of her body.

Officials say that the puppy later passed away. Anyone who has information about the case is asked to contact the Kennett Humane Department at 573-888-4622.

FEED AND SEED EVENT SET FOR TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF

New Day Ministry in Poplar Bluff will be hosting a feed and seed event today.

The event is from 3 to 5 pm and is first come, first serve, with packs limited to one per household.

5TH ANNUAL EARTHQUAKE SUMMIT TO BE HELD TODAY

Earthquake experts will be meeting today in Southeast Missouri.

The 5th Annual Earthquake Summit will be held at the Rone Exhibition Hall in Portageville.

Some of the topics to be discussed include earthquake hazards with the New Madrid Seismic Zones, Missouri’s New Field Operations Guide for Earthquake Evacuation, and New Rules for School Emergency Planning.

The Summit is free, and certificates for professional development hours will be provided.
