PUXICO MAN KILLED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK

A Puxico man was killed in a single vehicle wreck Tuesday morning.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 23 year old Dillon McGee was driving a motorcycle on Highway 51, in Stoddard County, when his vehicle ran off the right side of the road, struck an embankment, and then struck a tree.

McGee was pronounced dead at the scene.

MAN FLOWN FROM THE SCENE OF A WRECK NEAR DONIPHAN

A Southeast Missouri man was flown from the scene of a single vehicle wreck near Doniphan.

According to authorities, the crash occurred Tuesday afternoon on Highway 21, two miles south of Doniphan.

59 year old Jonathan Edwards, of Doniphan, was driving on the highway when his vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a guardrail, and then overturned in a ditch.

Edwards received serious injuries in the crash and was taken by air to a Memphis area hospital.

MENARDS HOSTING FOOD DRIVE TO BENEFIT LOCAL FOOD PANTRY

A Poplar Bluff area business is accepting food donations to be used in the community.

The Poplar Bluff Menards is partnering with area food pantries by serving as a drop off location for donations throughout the month of March.

Menards also offers a wide variety of non-perishable food items that can be donated immediately in their grocery department, such as boxes of cereal and cans of soup.

OUTDOOR WARNING SIRENS TO BE TESTED THIS MORNING IN MANY STODDARD COUNTY COMMUNITIES

Authorities in Stoddard County will be testing outdoor warning sirens around the County this morning.

According to the Stoddard County Emergency Management Agency, the Outdoor Warning Sirens in the cities of Advance, Bell City, Bloomfield, Dudley, Essex, and Puxico will be tested this morning at 9 am.

Officials say that if there is an active firefighting emergency in or near those cities at that time, the test will be postponed.

OPENING DATE SET FOR TOMORROW AT WAPPAPELLO LAKE CAMPGROUND

The opening dates are coming up for the campgrounds at Wappapello Lake.

According to the Wappapello Lake US Army Corps of Engineers, the Greenville Campgrounds will open to campers tomorrow.

The People’s Creek Upper and Lower Campgrounds are both scheduled to open on April 5th.

Officials say the Redman Creek East Campground is closed during the 2023 Recreation Season due to ongoing construction and major rehabilitation.

CONTRACTS AWARDED FOR BRIDGE PROJECTS IN THE VAN BUREN AND NEELYVILLE AREAS

Contracts have been awarded for multiple bridge projects in Southeast Missouri.

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission has awarded a contract for a bridge rehabilitation on Route 60 over Current River in Van Buren and for a bridge replacement on Route 142 over Cane Creek Ditch near Neelyville.

The over two million dollar contract was awarded to Robertson Contractors.

Officials say that information regarding timelines, and impacts to traffic, will be released prior to the start of construction.

ROADWORK UNDERWAY ON ROUTE 162 IN GIDEON

Route 162 in New Madrid County is being reduced this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.

The section of Route 162 involved in the project is located between West Railroad Street and County Road 263 in Gideon.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. both today and tomorrow.
