SPRING JOB FAIR SET FOR TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF 

A Job Fair has been scheduled for today in Poplar Bluff. 

According to the Butler County Community Resource Council, the Parents Working Committee will host the Spring Job Fair and Career Expo from 10 am to 2 pm at the Libla Family Sports Complex on the campus of Three Rivers College. 

There will be several vendors ready to share their open positions with job seekers and some will be doing on-site interviews.

PUBLIC MEETING SCHEDULED FOR TODAY IN VAN BUREN 

A public meeting will be held today to discuss an ongoing voluntary residential flood buyout project. 

The City of Van Buren is hosting the meeting at 9 am today at the Van Buren City Hall. 

The City is interested in obtaining citizen input on the existing buyout zone and discussing eligibility, available assistance, the application process for grant funds, and other needs related to the April to May 2017 flooding events within the city. 

The city’s ongoing residential voluntary buyout project includes assistance like relocation expenses and down payment assistance for those who qualify.

At least 70 percent of the funds will be used to benefit low to moderate income persons. Due to the nature of a buyout, displacement of persons will be proposed.

FEED AND SEED EVENT SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEEK 

New Day Ministry in Poplar Bluff will be hosting a feed and seed event next week. 

The event is from 3 to 5 pm on Thursday, April 20th and is first come, first serve, with packs limited to one per household.

MAN ARRESTED ON FELONY DRUG CHARGE IN STODDARD COUNTY 

Authorities in Stoddard County have arrested a Bloomfield man on a felony drug charge. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 50 year old Michael Acord was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance methamphetamine. 

Officials say that Acord is also facing a charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.


HAVEN HOUSE FUNDRAISER TO BE HELD THIS WEEKEND 

Haven House will be hosting a fundraiser this weekend for Sexual Assault Awareness Month. 

Workers will be collecting money for the “It’s a drop in the bucket” campaign on Saturday, April 15th, from 9 am to 2 pm at the intersection of Westwood Boulevard and Pine Street in Poplar Bluff. 

Officials say that Sexual Assault Awareness Month is an awareness campaign to raise public awareness about Sexual Assault that's observed each year during the month of April. 

Haven House has recently increased their capacity from 27 to 33 beds to serve victims of sexual and domestic violence in Butler Carter, Wayne, Ripley and Stoddard Counties. 


55TH ANNUAL DOGWOOD-AZALEA FESTIVAL TO BEGIN TODAY 

The 55th Annual Dogwood-Azalea festival is kicking off today in Charleston. 

There are multiple attractions planned for the four day event, including the 5K, Youth, and Toddler Race, the Carnival, the Miss Dogwood Azalea Pageant, a Car Show, parade, a Dog Show, and more.
