MONDAY NIGHT STORMS RESULT IN DAMAGE ACROSS SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

A late Monday night storm system resulted in reports of damage across Southeast Missouri.

According to the National Weather Service, a tree fell on a house in the Sikeston area. No information was available on if anyone was injured in the incident.

Officials in Stoddard County reported a downed tree was blocking a roadway in the Bloomfield area last night at around 10 pm.

Officials in Wayne County say that numerous trees were down across the county.

There were power outages reported in numerous communities overnight. Ozark Border Electric Cooperative reported that over 2,600 customers were without power at one point.

This is the final week to view art created by students at Three Rivers College.

The Three Rivers Fine Art Student Exhibition will be available through May 12th at the Tinnin Center Art Gallery.

The gallery will be open from noon to 3 pm each day and admission is free.

ALMOST 200 TONS OF DEBRIS COLLECTED FROM MARK TWAIN NATIONAL FOREST

Crews recently worked to remove almost 200 tons of trash from Mark Twain National Forest.

According to the US Forest Service, crews have successfully completed a debris cleanup contract that covered large sections of the Poplar Bluff and Eleven Point Ranger Districts.

This year, the debris clean-up led to 187 tons of trash being removed from the Forest.

Anyone who finds illegal dump sites on national forest land, or witnesses people dumping trash, is asked to notify the appropriate Forest Service district office.

WAYNE COUNTY HEALTH CENTER TO HOST WOMEN’S HEALTH DAY EVENT

An area health organization is preparing an event for Women’s Health Day later this month.

The Wayne County Health Center will be hosting the event, featuring mammograms, blood pressure, blood sugar, and hemoglobin checks, as well as vaccines.

Patients without insurance may qualify for free screenings.

The event will be held from 9 am to 3 pm on Thursday, May 18th. Officials say that walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred.

NEW BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT TO CAUSE CLOSURE OF DONIPHAN STREET

A Doniphan street has been closed for a new bridge construction project.

According to city officials, the Doniphan Department of Transportation is assisting contractors with the project over Quick Creek at the 500 block of Spring Street.

Officials say that Spring Street will remain closed until the final completion of the project which is scheduled to be near mid-summer.

BRIDGE MAINTENANCE TO BEGIN TODAY ON ONE MILE ROAD IN DEXTER

One Mile Road in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane beginning today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge maintenance.

The section of roadway being reduced is located from North Outer Road to Nina Street in Dexter.

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
