LAYOFF DATE ANNOUNCED FOR REVERE PLASTICS IN POPLAR BLUFF

Over 70 workers will be affected by layoffs this Summer at Revere Plastics Systems in Poplar Bluff.

The company told employees last week that the Poplar Bluff facility will be closing.

According to a WARN Notice posted on Jobs.Mo.Gov, the closing will affect 79 employees and the layoff date has been set for July 2nd.

WOMAN INJURED IN TWO SEPARATE CRASHES IN STODDARD COUNTY

A Northeast Arkansas woman was injured in two separate crashes early Tuesday morning in Stoddard County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the first crash occurred when a vehicle driven by 20 year old Shannon Henderson, of Charleston, reportedly failed to yield on US Highway 60 and collided with another vehicle.

Both Henderson and the driver of the second vehicle, 83 year old Elwanda Miller, of Piggott, suffered moderate injuries in the wreck.

While Miller’s vehicle was disabled in the roadway, it was then struck by a truck, causing Miller to suffer serious injuries. She was transported by ambulance to a Cape Girardeau hospital.

No injuries were listed for the driver of the truck.

9TH ANNUAL RIDE FOR A CURE TO BE HELD IN AUGUST

The 9th Annual Ride for a Cure Dice Run in memory of Larry Maronay has been scheduled for August.

Registration for the event will begin at 10 am on August 26th at the Dexter Elks Lodge, with the ride beginning at 11 am. The entry fee is $20 per bike and $10 for an additional rider with a meal included at the end of the ride.

All proceeds will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

OVER 41,000 BIRDS HARVESTED DURING SPRING TURKEY SEASON

Missouri hunters harvested over 41,000 birds during turkey season.

Preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation shows turkey hunters checked 41,970 birds during Missouri’s 2023 regular spring turkey season, which ran from April 17th through May 7th.

Young turkey hunters also harvested 2,566 turkeys over the youth weekend at the beginning of April, bringing the overall 2023 spring turkey harvest to 44,536 – the highest harvest total since 2016.

Officials say that last year, young turkey hunters harvested 2,894 turkeys over the spring youth season and hunters harvested 33,359 during the regular spring season for a 2022 spring season total harvest of 36,253.

SHOULDER REPAIRS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN TODAY IN BUTLER COUNTY

Missouri Route 51 in Butler County will be reduced to one lane beginning today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform shoulder repairs.

The work zone will be located from Route 53 to the Arkansas state line.

Weather permitting, work will take place today and tomorrow, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

MODOT CREWS TO WORK ON ROUTE TT TODAY NEAR DUDLEY

Crews will be performing bridge maintenance today on Route TT in Stoddard County.

According to officials with the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route TT will be reduced to one lane from Route WW to Stanley Street near Dudley both today and tomorrow..

Weather permitting, work will take place each day from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
