RAIN FORECAST CAUSES DELAY IN ROXIE ROAD CONSTRUCTION

Forecasted rain for this morning is causing a delay in planned repairs in Poplar Bluff.

According to the Poplar Bluff Street Department, crews were scheduled to overlay Roxie Road today from the West side of Shelby Road to the City Limits.

Officials say that the weather forecast has caused them to push the project back a day.

On Thursday, Roxie Road will be closed to through traffic, however residents that live in the affected area will be able to get out with an escort.

OPEN ENROLLMENT BEGINS TODAY FOR DONIPHAN R-1

An open enrollment event will begin today for the Doniphan R-1 School District.

According to school officials, the event has been scheduled for 9 to 11 am and 1 to 3 pm both today and tomorrow at the Doniphan High School Library.

Open Enrollment is for all new students in Kindergarten through 12th grade.

No appointment is necessary and parents should remember to bring their child’s birth certificate, shot record, proof of residency, and social security card.

RIPLEY COUNTY FAIR TO BEGIN TODAY

The 2023 Ripley County Fair will kick off today.

Officials say that the fair will be held this year from today through August 5th at the Fairgrounds, south of Doniphan.

Multiple activities are planned for the four day event, including a beauty pageant, loggers relay, carnival, rodeo, truck pull, and more.

DEXTER RECEIVES $50,000 GRANT FOR WASTEWATER SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS

A Southeast Missouri city will be getting grant money to evaluate its wastewater system.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $50,000 Clean Water Engineering Report Grant to the city of Dexter

Officials say that the grant will be used to identify wastewater system improvements needed to meet permit requirements and to continue reliable service to the area. The facility plan should be complete in January 2025.

OZARK BORDER ANNUAL MEETING SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 11TH

The date has been announced for the annual membership meeting of the Ozark Border Electric Cooperative.

According to a letter sent to members, the meeting will be held at 2:30 pm on Friday, August 11th at the Ozark Border Headquarters on South Westwood Boulevard in Poplar Bluff.

Members will be voting on two bylaw changes, one would provide a larger time frame in which the nominating committee can work and clearly define when petitions for board candidates may be received. The other change would prohibit excessive campaign contributions.

Members will also be voting for the Board of Directors, with two candidates vying for the District 3 seat, Charles Bunting and Jeff Shawan.

Voting will be conducted on multiple dates and locations in the leadup to the meeting. Voting and registration will be available for all members on August 7th at the Malden Ozark Border Office, on August 8th at the Puxico Office, August 9th at the Van Buren Office, and on August 10th at the Doniphan Office. Those four locations will be open for voting on their respective dates from 9 am to 3 pm.

In Poplar Bluff, voting will be available at the Poplar Bluff Office on August 11th from 7 am to 2 pm.

DUNKLIN COUNTY ROAD TO BE REDUCED OVER TWO DAYS FOR BRIDGE MAINTENANCE

Route 62 in Dunklin County will be reduced both today and tomorrow as construction crews perform bridge maintenance.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the work zone will be located from County Road 217 to the Arkansas state line.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both today and tomorrow.
