SUSPECT SOUGHT IN CONNECTION TO SHOOTING IN POPLAR BLUFF
Updating a story we brought to you earlier this week, Poplar Bluff Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a shooting suspect.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, shortly before 3 am on August 7th, officers responded to a residence on East Harper Street regarding a subject that had been shot.
At the residence, officers found 25 year old Khalid Williams, of Poplar Bluff, suffering from gunshot wounds to his abdomen, arms, and legs. Williams was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital and then flown to a regional hospital for treatment.
During the investigation, it was learned that the shooting was the result of a verbal altercation that escalated between Williams and 18 year old Karon Ransom, of Poplar Bluff.
Lieutenant Josh Stewart with the PBPD says that Ransom is still at large and anyone who has information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Police Department at 573-785-5776.
WOMAN FLOWN TO ST. LOUIS HOSPITAL FOLLOWING CRASH NEAR POPLAR BLUFF
An area woman was badly hurt in a single vehicle crash near Poplar Bluff.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 33 year old Wallace Hastings, of Cape Girardeau, was driving on Butler County Road 565 when his vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a culvert.
A passenger in the vehicle, 32 year old Ashley Hicks, of Poplar Bluff, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was flown to a St. Louis hospital.
No injuries were reported for the driver.
ROYAL REGISTRATION ENDS TODAY FOR THE TWIN RIVERS SCHOOL DISTRICT
Today is day two of the Twin Rivers School District’s annual registration event.
Royal Registration is scheduled for 1 to 7 pm today at Twin Rivers High School in Broseley for students whose parents or guardian’s last name begins with L-Z.
There will be booths set up to distribute student class schedules and allow students to have their school picture taken.

YOUTH FOOTBALL SIGNUP EVENT SCHEDULED FOR TONIGHT AT POPLAR BLUFF JUNIOR HIGH
Parents in Poplar Bluff will have a chance to sign their children up for youth football tonight.
The first of two signup days for the Youth Football will take place from 5 to 7 pm tonight at the Poplar Bluff Junior High School gym lobby.
Games will be played at 11 am on Saturdays at the Poplar Bluff Junior High School starting the second week of September
$35 will be due at the time of signups, which also includes a t-shirt. Signup forms are also available at the Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation Department Office.
EROSION WORK TO CAUSE DELAYS ON ROUTE 61
Route 61 in New Madrid County will be reduced to one lane with a 11-foot width restriction beginning today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform erosion work.
The section of roadway being reduced is located between County Road 502 and Bloomfield Road in New Madrid.
Weather permitting, work will take place today through Monday, August 14 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
BRIDGE MAINTENANCE SET FOR TODAY IN PEMISCOT COUNTY
Route C in Pemiscot County is being reduced to one lane so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform bridge maintenance.
The bridge involved is located between County Road 452 and County Road 454 near Steele.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. both today and tomorrow.
