PATRIOT DAY REMEMBRANCE EVENT TO BE HELD IN POPLAR BLUFF

Area community members will be gathering in Poplar Bluff this weekend.

A Patriot Day Remembrance event will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 am on Saturday, September 9th at the American Legion Post #153 on Kanell Boulevard in Poplar Bluff.

There will be a 9/11 commemoration, remembrance walk, and cookout as a part of the event.

Organizers say that all veterans, first responders, and the entire Poplar Bluff community are welcome to join.

YOUNG CHILD KILLED IN RIPLEY COUNTY CRASH

A young child was killed in a single vehicle crash over the weekend.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred Saturday evening when a vehicle ran off of County Road N-2 in the Oxly area. The vehicle then struck an embankment and overturned.

Officials say that a five year old child in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by a Ripley County Deputy Coroner. No injuries were listed for the driver.

STODDARD COUNTY FAIR SET FOR LATE SEPTEMBER

The schedule has been announced for the 96th Stoddard County Fair.

The fair will kick-off with the parade in downtown Dexter on Tuesday, September 19th at 5:30 pm.

There will be multiple nights of entertainment and events including a gospel performance and exhibitions by the Robinson Chainsaw Carvers.

Other events include the livestock auction, demo derby, and rodeo.

WOMAN FLOWN FROM THE SCENE OF A CRASH NEAR VAN BUREN

Two people were injured, one seriously, in a weekend collision near Van Buren.

According to the Highway Patrol, 39 year old Meljin Hernandez, of Van Buren, was driving on Missouri Highway 21, when his vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected and then traveled across the roadway into the path of another vehicle.

A passenger in the second vehicle suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was flown to a Springfield hospital. Hernandez received moderate injuries and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

PAVEMENT REPAIRS SCHEDULED FOR TODAY NEAR ADVANCE

Route BB in Stoddard County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs near Advance.

According to officials, the work zone will be located between Route K and Route M.

Weather permitting, crews will be working today from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

ALMOST THREE MONTH LONG ROAD PROJECT BEGINS TODAY IN CARTER COUNTY

Route 60 in Carter and Shannon Counties will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction for almost three months as contractor crews perform roadside work.  

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the work zone is located from Route DD to Route M near Van Buren.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through Thursday, November 30th.
