US MARSHALL’S OFFICE ASSISTS IN ARREST OF MAN WHO FLED FROM DEXTER TRAFFIC STOP

A man who fled from a traffic stop in Dexter last month has been taken into custody.

Dexter Police Chief Hank Trout tells KWOC News that 28 year Chris Smith, of Poplar Bluff, fled from a traffic stop on August 12th near the area of Houston and Whitman street. Smith had an active warrant for his arrest and was not able to be located at the time.

Trout says that the US Marshall’s Office has been working with the Dexter Police Department and Marshalls were able to apprehend Smith on September 5th in Springfield.

Smith has been returned to Stoddard County where he is being held in the Stoddard County Jail on a warrant for resisting or interfering with an arrest, detention, or stop.

His bond was set at $5,000.

PRICE INCREASE APPROVED FOR MDC PERMITS

The cost to hunt in Missouri will go up early next year.

The Missouri Conservation Commission gave final approval at its open meeting on Friday to adjust prices for most hunting, fishing, trapping, and commercial permits offered by the Missouri Department of Conservation.

The price increases will take effect beginning on February 29th, 2024.

On average, most resident hunting and fishing permit prices will be adjusted by about one dollar.

Officials say that most MDC permit prices have remained the same for the past 20 years.

MDC proposed the permit price adjustments in an effort to keep up with rising costs of goods and services it uses to manage its more than 1,000 conservation areas along with nature centers, shooting ranges, fish hatcheries, and other facilities.

WOMAN FLOWN TO MEMPHIS HOSPITAL FOLLOWING CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY

A Broseley woman was badly injured in a single vehicle crash early Sunday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 23 year old Destanee Barton was driving on westbound US Highway 60 when her vehicle ran off the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned.

Officials say the crash occurred at around 3:10 am.

Barton suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was flown to a Memphis hospital.

THREE RIVERS COLLEGE TO HOST MEET THE RAIDERS EVENT

The Three Rivers College athletic season is fast approaching and area residents will have the opportunity to meet some of the players who will be representing the Raiders this year.

The college is hosting a “Meet the Raiders” event beginning at 6 pm this evening at the Libla Family Sports Complex.

The event will showcase the players and coaches for the Raiders basketball and baseball teams, the Lady Raiders basketball and softball teams, the rodeo team, the Esports team, and the cheer team.

IMBODEN MAN KILLED IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS WRECK

One man is dead in connection to an early morning crash in Randolph County.

According to the Arkansas State Police, 70 year old David Davis, of Imboden, crashed into the trailer of a mack truck early Friday morning at the intersection of US Highway 62 and Muddy Lane.

Officials say that Davis was pronounced dead at the scene by the Randolph County Coroner. No injuries were listed for the driver of the mack truck.

DRIVING SURFACE IMPROVEMENTS TO CAUSE DELAYS ON ROAD IN CARTER AND WAYNE COUNTIES

Missouri Department of Transportation crews will be making driving surface improvements on Route A in Carter and Wayne Counties through the middle of this week.

The section of roadway that will be affected by this project is located from Route 60 to Route 49 near Ellsinore.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Wednesday. During the project, Route A will be open to local traffic only.

ROAD CLOSURE SCHEDULED FOR TODAY IN MATTHEWS AREA

Route FF in New Madrid County will be closed today in the Matthews area so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can replace a culvert under the roadway.

According to officials, the closure will be located between Route H and County Road 820.

Weather permitting, work will take place today between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
