MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN BUTLER COUNTY CRASH

One man was seriously injured in a single vehicle crash Thursday morning in Butler County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 31 year old Dylan Bridgers, of High Ridge, was driving on US Highway 60 when his vehicle ran off the roadway and struck a tree.

Bridgers suffered serious injuries and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

AG CONNECT 2024 BEGINS TODAY AT BESS ACTIVITY CENTER

Ag Connect 2024 kicks off today in Poplar Bluff.

Ag Connect will be held at the Bess Activity Center on the campus of Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff from 9 am to 2 pm both today and tomorrow.

Today is Agriculture Industry Day, with workshops focused on the business of running a farm or livestock operation, along with vendor booths, FFA events, and activities.

Saturday will be Family Day at Ag Connect, featuring a petting zoo, a pedal tractor pull, educational workshops, and 4-H activities.

Ag Connect 2024 will cost $5 to attend each day, with kids and students getting in for free.

Ag Connect 2024 at the Bess Activity Center is hosted by Three Rivers College and the University of Missouri Butler County Extension Office.

FIVE ELECTED TO BUTLER COUNTY UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI EXTENSION COUNCIL

Five people have been chosen to sit on the Butler County University of Missouri Extension Council.

According to officials with the Extension, incumbent and Extension Council Chair Douglas Rose Jr. was reelected and is being joined by new council members Leann Clark, Tammy Harper, Judy Lunsford, and Melissa Stephens.

The five were elected to two year terms.

Council members are volunteers responsible for maintaining the University of Missouri Extension Center at 614 Lindsay Avenue and for planning programs with the faculty and staff in Butler County.

POPLAR BLUFF DRAMA CLUB TO HOST SHOW THIS WEEKEND

The Poplar Bluff High School Drama Club will be hosting a show this weekend.

The 7th annual “Whose Line Is It Anyway,” performance will begin at 7 pm tonight at the Kay Porter Theater in Poplar Bluff. A second show is scheduled for 7 pm on Saturday.

The audience will get to participate in helping form the scenes during the show. Tickets will be $5 and come with one free suggestion card. Additional suggestion cards can be purchased for $1.

Proceeds from the event will go to support the Drama Club.

EAGLE DAYS PROGRAM SET FOR THIS WEEKEND AT MINGO NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE

A day for honoring eagles has been scheduled for this weekend at Mingo National Wildlife Refuge near Puxico.

According to officials, the Wildlife Refuge, the Missouri Department of Conservation, and the Wappapello Lake Army Corps of Engineers will be hosting Eagle Days 2024 on Saturday.

There will be live eagle programs at the Puxico Activity Center starting at 9 am.

The Puxico Activity Center is adjacent to Puxico High School, just off Highway 51.

In addition, there will be exhibits and other activities in the Visitor Center and spotting scopes will be set up on several active eagle nests around Mingo, the Duck Creek Conservation Area, and Wappapello Lake.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO ILLEGALLY SELLING MACHINE GUN

A Southeast Missouri man has pleaded guilty to multiple weapon related felonies.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office, 18 year old Averyoun Quentez Lane, of Sikeston, admitted to selling two Glock pistols to an undercover special agent of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on July 3rd, 2023.

One of the pistols was equipped with an aftermarket “switch” that converted it into a fully automatic weapon. The conversion device alone is defined as a machine gun under federal law.

Lane pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to one felony count of unlawfully transferring a machine gun and one felony count of engaging in the business of dealing firearms.

Lane is scheduled to be sentenced on May 16th. The machine gun charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine. The firearm dealing charge is punishable by up to five years in prison and the same fine.
