TRC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH ALEX WIGGS CLAIMS 100TH WIN

The Three Rivers College Lady Raiders win Tuesday night was extra special for Head Coach Alex Wiggs.

With the win over Moberly Area Community College in the 2024 Region 16 Tournament Semi-finals, Coach Wiggs claimed his 100th career victory.

Wiggs is in his fourth season as head coach and 8th season overall as a member of the TRC Women’s basketball coaching staff.

He has a record of 100 wins to only 12 losses over his four seasons in charge of the Lady Raiders.

TRC were undefeated during the regular season in Wiggs’ first two seasons and have made three straight NJCAA National Tournament appearances. In 2021 the Lady Raiders made their first ever NJCAA Final 4 appearance.

With Tuesday’s win, the Lady Raiders will now challenge State Fair Community College for the Region 16 championship on Friday.

INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY AFTER PERSON FOUND DECEASED WITH AN APPARENT GUNSHOT WOUND

An investigation was started Tuesday morning after a report of an apparent fatal shooting.

According to Jason Elms with the Paragould Police Department, shortly after 8 am, Paragould Emergency Services received a call of a deceased person with an apparent gunshot wound.

The identity of the victim has not been released and Elms says that no further information can be released at this time.

TWIN RIVERS PRESCHOOL SCREENING AND KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT SCHEDULED FOR THIS MONTH

Officials in the Twin Rivers R-10 School District have announced they will be holding preschool screening and kindergarten enrollment this month.

Parents should bring their children, who are up to five years of age and not yet in kindergarten, for the screening which will be held March 26th and 27th at the Broseley High School.

Both events are from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Screening will be conducted in areas of health, vision, hearing, dental, speech, language, and development.

Each child should bring their immunization records, birth certificate, social security card, and a parent’s picture ID. Children enrolling in kindergarten must also bring three items providing proof of residency.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY

A Poplar Bluff man was taken into custody following a single vehicle crash this week in Stoddard County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 26 year old Isiah Lopez was driving on Highway 60 Monday afternoon when his vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a ditch.

Lopez suffered minor injuries in the crash and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

Less than two hours after the incident, Lopez was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance - heroin, driving while intoxicated - drugs, and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway resulting in an accident.

PORTION OF ROUTE W TO BE CLOSED TODAY IN BUTLER COUNTY

Route W in Butler County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.

The work zone is located from County Road 537 to County Road 533 near Poplar Bluff.

Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

MALDEN AREA ROAD TO BE IMPACTED BY BRIDGE REPAIRS THIS WEEK

Route 25 in Dunklin County will be reduced to one lane this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge repairs.

The bridge involved in the project is located between Business 25 and County Road 120 near Malden.

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
