NEW MADRID COUNTY CENTRAL WINS STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

New Madrid County Central is celebrating its second straight state basketball championship.

The Eagles defeated Summit Christian Academy 86-65 Saturday in the boys Class 3 basketball championship game. New Madrid got to the championship game with a 57-44 win over Thayer Friday night in the state semifinals.

The Eagles have finished in the top 3 of the state for the past 3 years.

MARINE CORPS LEAGUE OF POPLAR BLUFF TO HOST CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT FUNDRAISER

The Marine Corps League of Poplar Bluff will be hosting a fundraising Cornhole Tournament later this month.

The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, March 30th at the Elks Lodge on Highway 67 North.

The entry fee is $30 per team with sign-ups beginning at 11 am. The tournament will start at 1 pm.

In addition to cornhole, there will also be food, a 50/50 drawing, and an airmail challenge.

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR POPLAR BLUFF YOUTH BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL

It’s time to get your children registered for youth baseball and softball in Poplar Bluff.

According to the Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation Department, registration will be available through Friday, March 29th. The cost to register is $20.

MEETING SCHEDULED TO DISCUSS PLANS FOR CORNING BYPASS

A meeting will be held this week to discuss the upcoming bypass near Corning.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation will conduct a public involvement meeting on Thursday, March 14th to present the detailed design plans for the Corning Bypass – a 4.1-mile new location roadway extending north from Highway 62/67 west of Corning and terminating north of Corning on Highway 67 in Clay County.

The bypass will be designed to interstate standards.

The in-person meeting will be held from from 4 to 7 p.m. at the M.B. Ainley Community Center in Corning.

SHOULDER REPAIRS TO CAUSE DELAYS EARLY THIS WEEK IN STODDARD COUNTY

Route AF in Stoddard County will be reduced early this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform shoulder repairs.

The work zone is located from Route 25 to South One Mile Road in Dexter.

Crews will also be reducing Route H near Dexter for shoulder repairs. That work zone is located from County Road 667 to County Road 651.

Weather permitting, work will take place in both locations from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. both today and tomorrow.

RAMP CLOSURE SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK NEAR CHARLESTON

The northbound Interstate 57 on-ramp at Exit 12 in Charleston will be closed this week as contractor crews construct new ramps.

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Friday, March 15 from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Officials say the ramp will remain closed until the work is completed. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.
