CLEAN UP EFFORTS CONTINUE FOLLOWING WEEKEND STORM SYSTEM
Clean up efforts are continuing following a weekend storm system that caused damage across Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, there were several reports of possible tornadoes on Sunday, however it will take several days to survey all the damage from the storms.
One storm related fatality was reported in the Sikeston area.
Damage to homes was reported in multiple communities, including Naylor, Harviell, Neelyville, Dexter, and Sikeston. Numerous trees and power poles were also knocked over throughout the area.
Ozark Border Electric Cooperative reported Sunday morning following the first round of storms that they lost power to at least 19 of the 36 substations that provide electricity to their members, affecting over 25,000 people. Officials say it was the worst disaster for them since the 2009 ice storm.
At 7 pm on Monday, Ozark Border posted that all power supplier substations were back online, however there were still 94 broken poles and 5,400 accounts without power.
Missouri Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe will be traveling to Southeast Missouri today to assess storm damage in the area and better learn what state resources may be needed to help impacted communities respond and recover.
