HOT AND HUMID TEMPERATURES EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

The first super hot day of the summer is expected this weekend in Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas.

According to the National Weather Service, a hot and humid day is expected for Sunday, with temperatures reaching the mid 90’s and heat index values possibly getting over 100 degrees.

The heat and humidity will increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

Everyone is reminded to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions if you have to work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or

evening hours.

FEDERAL DISASTER DECLARATION REQUESTED FOR MULTIPLE SOUTHEAST MISSOURI COUNTIES

Missouri Governor Mike Parson has requested a federal disaster declaration for multiple counties in Southeast Missouri.

Governor Parson is requesting federal assistance for 15 counties including Butler, Carter, New Madrid, Ripley, Scott, and Stoddard counties in response to the severe storms and tornadoes that swept across the state from May 19th through the 27th.

Joint damage assessments conducted by FEMA, SEMA, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and local officials estimate more than $20 million in emergency response costs and damage to public infrastructure.

If approved, local governments and qualifying nonprofit agencies may seek federal assistance for reimbursement of emergency response and recovery costs, including repair and replacement costs for damaged buildings, bridges, roads, and other public infrastructure.

Governor Parson is also requesting Individual Assistance in 10 counties across the state, including Butler, Carter, New Madrid, Ripley, Scott, and Stoddard Counties. Of 543 homes assessed in the 10 counties, 171 sustained major damage, and 20 were destroyed.

Individual Assistance would allow eligible residents to seek federal assistance for temporary housing, housing repairs, replacement of damaged belongings, vehicles, and other qualifying expenses.

A new agreement has been signed between Three Rivers College and Southeast Missouri State University to expand transfer options for students.

According to a release from SEMO, the articulation agreements lists coursework, broken down by semester, for both TRC and SEMO. These agreements place students on a path that can guarantee a bachelor’s degree in four years total, helping students to maximize their efforts at each school and achieving their career goals faster.

The new agreements design eight additional pathways not previously available and create pathways for SEMO’s newest programs—aviation management, business analytics, and financial econometrics.

SEMO now has 34 articulation agreements with Three Rivers, providing students who have earned an associate degree at TRC a direct path to seamlessly transfer to SEMO.
