ONE DEAD, ANOTHER INJURED, IN CONNECTION TO CRASH IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

One man is dead in connection to a weekend crash in Southeast Missouri.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 51 year old Alphonso Savage, of Chicago, Illinois, was driving on Interstate 55 Sunday night when his vehicle struck the towed unit of another vehicle.

Savage was transported to a Hayti hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A passenger in the other vehicle received minor injuries.

ROYAL REGISTRATION DATE SET FOR TWIN RIVERS SCHOOL DISTRICT

The Twin Rivers School District has announced that it will be holding a two day registration event for students next month.

Royal Registration is scheduled for noon to 6 pm on Tuesday, August 6th for students whose parent or guardian’s last name begins with A-K and Thursday, August 8th for students whose parent or guardian’s last name begins with L-Z. Both will be held at Twin Rivers High School in Broseley.

There will be booths set up to distribute student class schedules and allow students to have their school picture taken.

MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO THE THEFT OF A MOTORCYCLE IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

A motorcycle theft has led to the arrest of a Marston man.

According to the Portageville Police Department, at approximately 8:35 pm Saturday, police were notified of a motorcycle that had been stolen in the city of Marston.

Less than 10 minutes later, officers with the Portageville Police Department located the motorcycle traveling southbound on Highway 61.

During a traffic stop, officers learned that the driver, 46 year old Christopher Long, of Marston, was in possession of narcotic related items and had a revoked driving status.

Long was taken into custody on felony warrants for stealing a motor vehicle, tampering with a motor vehicle 1st degree, possession of a controlled substance, and driving while revoked.

His bond was set at $5,000, cash or surety.

CITY OF FISK TO HOST PUBLIC HEARING TODAY

A local community will be holding a public hearing today concerning a grant application.

The city of Fisk is proposing a project that consists of, but is not limited to, the paving and repair of the existing roadbed, addressing settlement issues, as well as overlaying and paving all or sections of various streets within the city.

Approximately 312 residences will benefit from the project and the estimated cost is expected to be up to $500,000. The city will provide approximately $10,000 in local cash match while applying for up to $500,000 in CDBG Funding.

A public hearing about the project will begin at 1 p.m. today at the Fisk City Hall.

DRIVING SURFACE IMPROVEMENTS SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK IN STODDARD COUNTY

Missouri Department of Transportation crews will be making driving surface improvements this week on Route BB in Stoddard County.

The work zone is located from Route M near Aquilla to Route C near Advance.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m through Thursday.

PAVEMENT REPAIR PROJECT TO CAUSE DELAYS THIS WEEK IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

Route UU in Dunklin County will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.

The section of roadway being reduced is located between Route NN and County Road 721 near Kennett.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through Thursday.
