PRESIDENT BIDEN ENDS REELECTION CAMPAIGN, ENDORSES VP HARRIS FOR NOMINATION

President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 race for the White House on Sunday, ending his bid for reelection.

The decision comes after escalating pressure from Biden’s Democratic allies to step aside following the June 27 debate.

Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to take on former president Dondald Trump, and encouraged his party to unite behind her.

Biden plans to serve out the remainder of his term in office, which ends at noon on January 20, 2025.

MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD HAS THEIR REQUIRED IMMUNIZATIONS BEFORE THE SCHOOL YEAR STARTS

The new school year is coming up in Southeast Missouri and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is reminding parents to make sure that their children have the required immunizations.

Children attending kindergarten through 12th grade are required to have the following immunizations or booster shots: DtaP, IPV, Hepatitis B, MMR, and Varicella.

8th through 12th grade students are also required to have the Tdap and MCV immunizations.

SUSPECT IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING THEFT OF MSHP VEHICLE

A suspect is in custody following the theft of a Missouri State Highway Patrol vehicle on Sunday.

Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that troopers were handling a stolen motorcycle arrest when a suspect stole a Highway Patrol vehicle.

State Troopers pursued the vehicle and were able to successfully deploy spike strips.

The suspect stopped in a wooded area of US Forest Service property in Wayne County and fled on foot. Parrott says that it appears that the firearms from the patrol vehicle are secure.

The suspect was later taken into custody and no information about their identity was available.

POPLAR BLUFF HOUSING AUTHORITY TO HOST BLOCK PARTY

The Poplar Bluff Housing Authority will be throwing a block party in early August.

The National Night Out Block Party will be held from 5 to 8 pm on August 6th at the Housing Authority on North E Street.

The event will include food, games, a petting zoo, music, family activities, and more.

Officials say that the Block Party is to promote strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.

NORTHBOUND US ROUTE 67 TO BE REDUCED BEGINNING TODAY IN BUTLER COUNTY

Northbound U.S. Route 67 in Butler County will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction beginning today as contractor crews perform guardrail repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of roadway being reduced is located near Route O at the Butler/Wayne County line.

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Wednesday, July 31, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

ROUTE AC TO BE CLOSED TODAY NEAR BLOOMFIELD IN STODDARD COUNTY

Route AC in Stoddard County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.

The section of roadway being closed is located between County Road 227 and County Road 232 near Bloomfield.

Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
