STODDARD COUNTY FAIR BEGINS TODAY

The 97th Stoddard County Fair kicks off tonight in Dexter.

The fair will begin with the parade in downtown Dexter this evening at 5:30 pm.

There will be multiple nights of entertainment and events through Saturday including performances by The Assembly Youth Workshop and Saturn Cowboys along with exhibitions by the Robinson Chainsaw Carvers and Magic Mike the Magician.

Other events include the livestock auction, demo derby, and rodeo.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG ARREST IN POPLAR BLUFF

Two people have been taken into custody on drug charges following a traffic stop in Poplar Bluff.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, on Friday officers conducted the stop in order to serve an arrest warrant.

During the traffic stop, a suspected controlled substance was located inside of the vehicle, along with suspected drug paraphernalia.

33 year old Jewayne Shaw, and 33 year old Kristin Kempfer, both of Poplar Bluff, were arrested for delivery of a controlled substance. Shaw was also taken into custody for an outstanding arrest warrant.

Officials say that charges are being sought through the Butler County Prosecutor’s Office.

LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS TEAM UP FOR POPLAR BLUFF DOWNTOWN STRAWMAN COMPETITION

Multiple Poplar Bluff organizations are teaming up for the first annual Downtown Strawman Competition.

Strawmen will be placed on a tree or light post on the two blocks encompassing Main, Cedar, Broadway, and Vine Streets. Judges will evaluate each entry and choose a winner later this month.

Contestants can reserve their spot for $20 and all entry forms must be received by 12 pm on Wednesday.

The 2024 Downtown Strawman Competition is being put on by Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation, Poplar Bluff Municipal Library, Downtown PB, and the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce.

STRIPING OPERATION UNDERWAY ON US ROUTE 60

Route 60 in multiple Southeast Missouri counties will be reduced to one lane through the end of the month as construction crews perform striping operations.  

Officials say this will be a moving operation with intermittent lane restrictions.

This section of roadway involved in the project is located from Route 67 in Butler County to the Wright County line.     

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Monday, September 30.

GREENVILLE MAN ARRESTED ON FELONY METH CHARGE

Authorities in Wayne County have arrested a Greenville man on a felony drug charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 40 year old Nicholas McFadden was taken into custody Monday afternoon on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine.

Following the arrest, McFadden was held at the Wayne County Jail.

SHOULDER REPAIRS TO CAUSE DELAYS TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY

Route 153 in Stoddard County will be reduced today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform shoulder repairs.

The work zone is located from Route D to Route 114.

Weather permitting, work will take place today through 4 p.m.
