RICHLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ONE OF EIGHT IN MISSOURI NAMED AS NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOLS

An elementary school in Southeast Missouri was one of eight schools across the state to be named as a National Blue Ribbon School.

According to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Richland Elementary School was chosen for the program, which recognizes schools that perform at high academic levels or that perform at high levels while serving a significant proportion of disadvantaged students.

Richland previously received the National Blue Ribbon in 2018.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON RAPE CHARGE

A Poplar Bluff man has been taken into custody on a rape charge.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, 37 year old James Foreman Jr. was taken into custody Saturday on a charge of 2nd degree rape.

Few details about the arrest have been released, except for that Foreman was lodged into the Butler County Justice Center.

ABSENTEE VOTING OPENS FOR UPCOMING ELECTION

Election season is in full force now in Missouri.

Absentee voting begins today for the General Election, which is scheduled for Tuesday, November 5th.

An absentee ballot can be requested from your local election authority. There are a number of reasons someone can request an absentee ballot, including incapacity or confinement due to illness or physical disability or if you expect to be absent on Election Day.

No excuse absentee voting will begin on October 22nd.

There is still time to register to vote in the general election, which will feature the race for the White House, as well as local and statewide races, including several Missouri constitutional amendments. The final day to register to vote is October 9th.

Butler County Clerk Donna Hillis tells KWOC News that the Butler County Clerk’s office will be open today until 5 pm and through election day, they will be open through their lunch hour.

SENIOR HEALTH FAIR SCHEDULED FOR TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF

A health fair for area residents ages 50 and up will be held today in Poplar Bluff.

The 27th Annual free Senior Health Fair from the Butler County Community Resource Council and AmeriCorps Seniors, has been scheduled for 10 am to 2 pm at the Twin Towers in Poplar Bluff.

There will be multiple services available, including health screenings, vaccinations, community resource information, and more.

MEETING MATERIALS FROM LAST WEEK’S MODOT HEARING NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

Anyone who missed the public hearing earlier this month in Butler County to discuss upcoming road projects can now view the meeting materials online.

According to MoDOT, during the hearing, construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Routes C and V and Route 160 in were discussed. This intersection is located west of the Route 160/158 interchange south of Poplar Bluff. Those meeting materials are available online at Modot.org/cv160roundabout.

Today is the final day to submit comments about the project.

Officials also discussed phases 3 and 4 of the multi-phase project to upgrade U.S Route 67 in Butler County. Those meeting materials are available online at Modot.org/futureI57. Comments on that project will be accepted through October 1st.

SIGNAGE REPAIRS TO CAUSE DELAYS TODAY ON ROUTE 53 IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

Route 53 in Dunklin County will be reduced today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform signage repairs. 

The section of roadway involved in this project is located from County Road 206 to Country Road 211.

Weather permitting, work will take place today from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
