MULTIPLE GUNS SEIZED DURING ARREST IN POPLAR BLUFF Narcotics and several guns were seized during an arrest early Wednesday morning in Poplar Bluff.

Deputy Chief Jeff Rowland with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells KWOC News that Tyran Roseburrow was arrested following a report of shots being fired in the area of Cedar and 8^th streets.

Multiple firearms were found in a vehicle Roseburrow had been driving along with a large amount of suspected marijuana.

Roseburrow, who was on probation for possession of a controlled substance, was processed on charges of unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, felony possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance.

POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN CHARGED WITH POSSESSING CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES INSIDE JAIL

A Poplar Bluff woman is facing drug related charges following her arrest Wednesday night.

According to Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 34 year old Jamie Ice has been charged with felony possession of a controlled substance inside jail and possession of a controlled substance – clonazepam.

Ice also reportedly had a warrant out of Butler County for failure to register a motor vehicle.

FIVE APPLICANTS INTERVIEW FOR CITY COUNCIL

Five applicants have interviewed for an opening on the Poplar Bluff City Council.

According to Poplar Bluff Acting City Manager Mark Massingham, the interviews were conducted during a special council session Tuesday evening.

The five people to apply were Jim Chrisman, Jerrica Fox, Susan McVey, Todd Sittig, and Austin Sutton.

The council will vote on the new member during a meeting Monday evening.

NEW SCHOOL YEAR BRINGS CURFEW FOR JUVENILES IN POPLAR BLUFF

Kids in Poplar Bluff are returning to school today and the Poplar Bluff Police Department wants to remind juveniles to be aware of curfew rules in the city.

According to Captain Don Trout, any person under 17 years old is not allowed to be on the city streets from midnight to 6 am on Friday and Saturday nights. The curfew begins at 11 pm on all other nights.

Juveniles are also not allowed to be on city streets during normal school hours unless they are accompanied by a parent, there is an emergency, or they are travelling to or from work.

CONSTRUCTION TO CAUSE INCREASED TRAFFIC CONGESTION AROUND POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOLS

The construction of new buildings at various Poplar Bluff school sites will cause delays for those travelling around the schools beginning today.

Poplar Bluff Police Chief Danny Whitely tells KWOC News officers will be at every school for the next few days to help with traffic routes and to ensure the safety of students. The construction is also causing changes to how parents and students will access the school campuses.

According to the Poplar Bluff School District, at the 5^th and 6^th grade center, parents will enter the campus via Oak Grove Road and loop around the eastern parking lot to the back of the building. There will also be designated lanes marked to separate bus traffic. Vehicles must exit the campus on the north end.

At the Senior High on Victory Lane, student drop-off will take place at A-Building on Highland Drive on the north side of campus.

After school, Highland will be closed along with Woodland and Meadowbrook Lane while buses stack from 2:45 to 3:20 p.m., after which parents will be permitted to arrive for pick-up. Student drivers will exit via the south end onto Harper Road.

Student parking will be assigned and include the spaces around Kay Porter Theater this year. The Highland Drive Church of Christ has offered use of its parking lot for overflow.

SHOOTING SUSPECT IN CUSTODY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

A shooting suspect has been apprehended in Dunklin County.

According to Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder, Richard Lynn Samples was shot in the leg at his home in Kennett Wednesday morning.

Samples was shot during a fight with his grandson, who had allegedly just broken into the home with a gun and told his grandparents that he wanted their money. Samples was taken to an area hospital following the incident.

Samples grandson, Thackary Brian Moore, was later taken into custody following a car chase with authorities that went through Pemiscot and Dunklin Counties.

Moore is in custody in Dunklin County and awaiting formal charges.

THREE RIVERS OFFERING UPGRADED IT SPECIALIST PROGRAM

Three Rivers College is offering computer savvy students a new option if they would like to begin a career in technology.

Heather Carlton, Instructor of Information Systems Technology at Three Rivers tells KWOC News that the college’s Network Administration degree track has been upgraded into a new IT Specialist program.

Carlton says that the college consulted with local employers to help focus the program on exactly what students need to be learning and the kind of skills that will make them stand out in a job interview.

The new IT Specialist program features a two-year associate degree track, as well as a one-year certificate. More information is available online at TRCC.edu. Students are able to register for classes through August 14^th.

STODDARD COUNTY ROAD REDUCED TODAY FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS

Route N in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform pavement repairs.

The work zone is located from Route AB to Route 91.

Work will take place today from 7:30 am to 4 pm.

  TENNESSEE WOMAN ARRESTED IN POPLAR BLUFF ON CHILD ABDUCTION WARRANT

A woman wanted for the abduction of two children has been arrested in Poplar Bluff.

Poplar Bluff Police Captain Don Trout tells KWOC News that 41 year old Tammy Barbee, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, was arrested early Tuesday morning on a child abduction warrant.

Authorities in Tennessee had contacted Poplar Bluff police Monday night about the two missing children, ages three and five years old. Barbee was identified as the children’s mother, and police were informed that she does not have custody of them.

Officers found the children with Barbee at a Poplar Bluff residence at around 1:30 am Tuesday.

Barbee was taken into custody and is awaiting extradition back to Tennessee. The children have been returned to their grandmother.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY THREATENING WOMAN WITH A KNIFE

A Poplar Bluff man is in custody following an incident earlier this week involving a knife.

Deputy Chief Jeff Rolland with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells KWOC News that officers made contact with a woman early Tuesday morning who said her roommate had assaulted her.

The victim told police that 34 year old Phillip Graves had forced his way into her bedroom and pulled her into the living room by her hair. Graves then allegedly threatened her with various knives and said that he wanted to die.

The woman was able to escape and alert police.

Graves was arrested on charges of 2^nd degree assault and armed criminal action.

THREE ARRESTED IN MALDEN ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES

Three Malden residents were recently arrested on drug related charges.

According to the Malden Police Department, 31 year old Jamiko Mathies and 23 year old Patricia Forbes were each arrested Monday on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Forbes also had a felony probation violation warrant out of Stoddard County.

41 year old Shonna Salinas was also arrested Monday and is facing a charge of attempt to manufacture a controlled substance.

Malden Police did not say if the three arrests were connected.

POPLAR BLUFF STUDENTS RETURN TO SCHOOL TOMORROW

Students at Poplar Bluff Public Schools will be returning to class tomorrow for the 2015-2016 school year.

Motorists are reminded to be on the lookout for school buses and children walking to and from school.

The Poplar Bluff School district is now also publishing school menus online at poplarbluffschools.nutrislice.com. At the website, parents can find out more about their children’s meals including nutrition information.

The menu can also be accessed on the smartphone app School Lunch by Nutrislice. The app is available on iOS and Android.

 JO ANN EMERSON HOSPITALIZED AFTER SUFFERING BRAIN HEMORRHAGE

(AP) - A former U.S. representative for Missouri is recovering after being hospitalized for a brain hemorrhage while vacationing in Italy.

The family of Jo Ann Emerson said in a statement Tuesday that the former Republican congresswoman is at an Italian hospital. The statement says the Cape Girardeau native is in stable condition after undergoing surgery.

Emerson served as a U.S. representative for Missouri from 1996 to 2013. She's now chief executive officer of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. A spokeswoman for the association in a statement said that Emerson was traveling with family when she suffered a "medical emergency."

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON BUTLER COUNTY WARRANT

A Poplar Bluff man was taken into custody Tuesday night on a Butler County warrant.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 21 year old Octavin Brown was arrested on a warrant for dangerous drugs.

Brown is also facing charges of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and possession of up to 35 grams of marijuana.

2015 PUXICO HOMECOMING IS UNDER WAY

This year’s homecoming festivities are underway in Puxico.

There are events scheduled through Saturday including the nightly square dancing and bracelet nights.

On Friday events will include a baby contest, the new library open house, and the alumni meeting in the Puxico School Cafeteria.

There are also multiple events going on Saturday including the Mingo Tractor Club Show, the Quilt Show, and the parade.

SIKESTON POLICE SEARCHING FOR TWO SUBJECTS IN LATE JULY SHOOTING INCIDENT

Police say warrants have been issued for two Sikeston men that were allegedly involved in a late July shooting incident.

Captain James McMillen, with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, tells KWOC News that warrants have been issued for both 23 year old Dwayne Harris Jr. and 20 year old Orlando “TJ” Sheron Jr. on charges of 1st degree assault and armed criminal action. Sheron was also charged with unlawful use of a weapon.

The warrants stem from an incident on July 30th where the two men were shooting at each other at a Sikeston intersection.

Police do not think either man was hit during the shootout.

Anyone with information on either man’s whereabouts is asked to contact Sikeston DPS at their Crime Stopper’s Hotline at 573-471-1500.

ROBBERY LEADS TO ARREST OF SIKESTON MAN

A reported robbery Friday morning has resulted in the arrest of a Sikeston man.

According to authorities, multiple victims said they were awakened early Friday morning at a Sikeston residence by two white male subjects both wearing ski masks and one exhibiting a handgun.

The suspects reportedly took over $4,000 and five cell phones by force during the incident.

One of the victims recognized the voice of 28 year old Andrew Robinett as one of the robbery suspects.

Robinett was arrested at his residence shortly after the robbery and is facing charges of armed criminal action, 1st degree burglary, 1st degree robbery, unlawful use of weapon, and endangerment of a child.

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter tells us that the investigation is still ongoing.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON DOMESTIC ASSAULT CHARGES

A Poplar Bluff man was taken into custody Friday evening on 2nd degree domestic assault charges.

Sheriff Mark Dobbs of the Butler County Sheriff’s Department tells KWOC News 38 year old Alvin Pitts was arrested on domestic assault charges. Sheriff Dobbs says Pitts allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, shoved her into a ditch, and held her down.

Pitts is also behind bars for a no bond felony probation violation warrant.

TWO KENNETT RESIDENTS ARRESTED FOLLOWING TRAFFIC STOP

Two Kennett residents are facing charges following their arrest over the weekend.

The Kennett Police Department tells KWOC News that officers were recently dispatched to an area on Floyd Street in reference to a theft.

Less than an hour later, officers found the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

Both 33 year old Patrick Long and 31 year old Matthew Waller were arrested for possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor stealing.

CLOTHING AND OTHER ITEMS TAKEN FROM POPLAR BLUFF CHURCH

Authorities are investigating a theft from a Poplar Bluff church.

According to Poplar Bluff Police, clothing and other items were recently taken from Grace United Methodist Church.

The suspects allegedly broke into the church and took the items which had been collected for children in need. Police are searching for suspects in the case.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RELEASED ABOUT FATAL BLYTHEVILLE SHOOTING

(AP) - Law enforcement officials are still looking for information on the identity of at least one shooter involved in a Saturday night brawl between two Blytheville families that left one woman dead and at least 11 others injured or wounded.

Blytheville Police Assistant Chief Ricky Jefferson says officers are conducting witness interviews, but hadn't developed a name for the fatal shooter of 19-year-old Adline King by Monday afternoon.

Prosecutor Scott Ellington says there was at least one other shooter on King's side of the feud. He says King and another woman, who both have children fathered by the same man, were at the center of the argument that took place at a wake after a funeral Saturday night.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON AN ASSAULT ON LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER CHARGE

A Poplar Bluff man was taken into custody Saturday evening on an assault on a law enforcement officer charge.

According to the Highway Patrol, 28 year old William Orum was arrested on charges of assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and failure to obey a lawful order.

The Highway Patrol did not release what Orum did to assault the officer.

ONE DEAD 11 INJURED IN WEEKEND SHOOTING IN BLYTHEVILLE

(AP) - Police in northeastern Arkansas say a woman was killed and 11 people suffered minor injuries in a shooting.

Blytheville Police Chief Ross Thompson tells KWOC News that 19-year-old Adline King was killed around 11 pm Saturday in the shooting at a home on the city's west side.

Thompson says four people with gunshot wounds were treated and released at a Memphis hospital, six with unspecified injuries were treated and released at a Blytheville hospital and one was taken to a Jonesboro hospital in stable condition with unspecified injuries.

Thompson said the shooting is believed to be the result of a feud involving the dead woman, but he offered few other details about the incident. No one is in custody, and authorities are asking the community to come forward with information.

MAN ALLEGEDLY SLASHED DURING INCIDENT IN PUXICO

A Puxico man was slashed multiple times during an altercation earlier this month.

According to authorities, the victim suffered injuries to the arm, back, and shoulder during an alleged incident with 30 year old Joseph Conner, of Puxico on August 1^st.

Conner was arrested by the Puxico Police Department and is facing felony charges of armed criminal action and 2^nd degree assault.

Conner’s next court date is scheduled for August 20^th.

POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE FELONY CHARGES

A Poplar Bluff woman is facing multiple felony charges following her arrest Thursday evening in Butler County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 44 year old Michelle Guzman was arrested on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, 1^st degree endangering the welfare of a child, and five counts of possession of a controlled substance – synthetic narcotics.

Guzman is also facing other charges including possession of up to 35 grams of marijuana and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

ABANDONED HOUSE CATCHES FIRE IN BUTLER COUNTY

An abandoned house in Butler County caught fire last week.

According to authorities, the fire started Thursday night at a house near Fisk along Highway FF.

A cause for the fire was not available.

POPLAR BLUFF CITY COUNCIL TO HOLD SPECIAL MEETING TUESDAY

The Poplar Bluff City Council will be holding a special meeting Tuesday at the city council chambers.

During the meeting, council members will interview applicants to fill a vacancy on the council for the position of Councilman at Large. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 pm.

Former Councilman Jack Rushin resigned from the position in July.

BUTLER COUNTY ROAD TO BE REDUCED THIS WEEK FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS

Crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation will be in Butler County this week for pavement repairs on Route EE.

During the repairs, Route EE will be reduced to one lane from Route 142 to the end of state maintenance. Work is scheduled to be performed from 7 am to 5 pm daily through Wednesday.

ALMOST FOUR MONTH LONG ROAD PROJECT BEGINS TODAY IN WAYNE AND REYNOLDS COUNTY

Route 34 in Reynolds and Wayne Counties will be reduced to one lane beginning today so contractor crews can perform dirt work for shoulders. The contractor will be using a pilot car and flaggers during the operation.

The work zone is located between County Road 580 in Reynolds County and Route V in Wayne County.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 5 pm daily through December 1^st.

INVESTIGATION STARTED IN BLYTHEVILLE SHOOTING DEATH

A man is dead following a shooting in Blytheville.

According to Blytheville Police, 47 year old Joseph Anderson Jr. was found Wednesday with an apparent gunshot wound. Anderson was taken to an area hospital and later pronounced dead.

The shooting is under investigation and anyone who has information about the incident is asked to contact Blytheville Police.

MAN INJURED IN CAPE GIRARDEAU STABBING

A man suffered minor injuries Wednesday during a stabbing incident in Cape Girardeau.

The man told authorities that he was attempting to break up a fight when he was cut with a knife. According to authorities, he had injuries to the head and chest area.

The incident is under investigation.

ONE ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO JEWELRY STORE ROBBERY

A Jonesboro man was taken into custody Thursday in connection to a jewelry store robbery.

According to authorities, 43 year old Kerry Kindred had been wanted for the robbery of Diamond Gems in Jonesboro on June 29^th.

He was arrested on charges of theft of property valued at $25,000 or greater and aggravated robbery.

DRUG INVESTIGATION LEADS TO 12 ARRESTS IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

Over 10 people were taken into custody following a two month long drug investigation in Northeast Arkansas.

According to Lepanto Police, 12 people were arrested Thursday during a warrant sweep.

Warrants had been issued for a total of 16 people as a part of the investigation.

CRAFT/VENDOR FAIR TO BE HELD AT LAKE WAPPAPELLO

A Craft and Vendor fair will be held Labor Day Weekend at Lake Wappapello.

The show will be hosted by VFW Post 3416 from 8 am to 4 pm on September 5^th, 6^th, and 7^th. Anyone interested in a table and booth for the weekend can purchase one for $25. All booth fees will support local veterans.

In addition to the vendors, there will be also lunch specials at the event.

MOTORISTS ADVISED TO WATCH FOR STUDENTS

With the school year beginning soon, the Missouri State Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to be alert and on the lookout for children, especially near school zones, playgrounds, and bicycle paths.

Motorists should remember to be cautious around school buses. In 2014, four people were killed and 374 people were injured in school bus crashes. Missouri experienced 936 traffic crashes involving school buses last year.

Parents are also encouraged to talk to their children about riding a bus, walking, or driving to school in a safe manner.

GOVERNOR NIXON ANNOUNCES POSSIBLE UPDATE TO POLICE TRAINING

(AP) - Governor Jay Nixon is directing a state commission and the Missouri Department of Public Safety to update the state's training standards for law enforcement officers.

The governor announced Thursday in Kansas City that he wants proposals for the new standards by December 1. The state's law enforcement training requirements haven't been updated since 1996.

The standards will focus on tactical training, fair and impartial policing, as well as the physical and mental health of officers.

Nixon appointed five new members to the Missouri's Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission, which sets rules for law enforcement training, continuing education and instruction.

He says the shooting death of 18 year old Michael Brown in Ferguson last August sparked a national debate on police training and gave Missouri a chance to help lead the discussion.

ARKANSAS ATTORNEY GENERAL APPROVES WORDING OF TERM LIMITS AMENDMENT

(AP) - Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge has approved the wording of a proposal to impose stricter term limits on legislators, giving supporters an opportunity to place the measure on next year's general election ballot.

Rutledge's office on Thursday certified the proposed constitutional amendment which would reduce the maximum amount of time lawmakers can serve in the Legislature from 16 years to 10. The proposal would limit lawmakers to three two-year terms in the House and two four-year terms in the Senate.

Voters last year approved an amendment that allowed lawmakers to serve 16 years without a limit of how much of that time could be served in either chamber.

Rutledge's certification means supporters can begin gathering the more than 84,000 signature needed to qualify for next year's ballot.

LITTLE PROGRESS AFTER MISSOURI EARLY CHILDHOOD FUNDS REVIEW

(AP) - A new report shows a Missouri agency doesn't plan to recover what an audit described as about $1.5 million in overpayments for an early childhood development program.

An audit of the state fund for early childhood programs released in February said the Social Services Department overpaid about $1.5 million for Early Head Start.

A follow-up report released Thursday shows the agency isn't planning on recovering that money from nonprofits contracted to provide services.

The report notes the agency says the contracted nonprofits deserved the additional funding to train more staff and expand facilities.

Three other changes recommended by the auditor's office haven't been fully implemented. Work has been done to collaborate between agencies to more efficiently provide services and stop double billing.

ADVANCE MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY WARRANT

An Advance man has been taken into custody on a child pornography related warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 30 year old Darrell Dewayne Meador Jr. was arrested for possession/control of child pornography.

Meador reportedly admitted to officials that he had downloaded the pornography.

FEDERAL AGENCY SAYS 33 INJURED IN NORANDA EXPLOSION

(AP) - A federal agency says molten aluminum hitting water is the apparent cause of explosions that injured more than 30 employees at a southeast Missouri aluminum plant.

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration says it's investigating two explosions that occurred Tuesday at the Noranda Aluminum plant in New Madrid County.

OSHA says the preliminary cause of the explosions appears to be the result of molten aluminum contacting water. The agency says it also investigated the facility in June after a worker was burned, and that investigation is ongoing.

OSHA said in a release that preliminary information shows 33 employees were injured in the Tuesday explosions, with most suffering eye and throat irritation, and ringing of the ears.

TWO FACING ARSON CHARGES FOLLOWING STEELE FIRE

Two Steele residents are facing arson charges following a Tuesday house fire.

According to Steele Police Chief Billy Joe Stanfield, 49 year old Terry Partain and 32 year old Melissa Wade have been charged with two counts of second degree arson in connection to the fire on Liberty Street.

Stanfield says that Partain is also charged with five counts of burglary in a separate investigation into several burglaries in the city.

CITY OF OSCEOLA AT RISK OF LOSING HISTORIC COURTHOUSE

(AP) - The city of Osceola has retained former Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel to look into the actions of Mississippi County over the city possibly losing its historic courthouse.

County Judge Randy Carney and several quorum court members are leading an effort to consolidate the county's two courthouses, located in Blytheville and Osceola, into one larger courthouse in Blytheville.

According to the Jonesboro Sun, the county has purchased land intended for a new courthouse, and has hired an architectural firm to begin drafting plans.

State law mandates the consolidation or move of a county seat be approved by county residents. McDaniel, who now practices law privately, says the county has spent too much money and resources on a project that hasn't even been approved.

POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOLS TO ADD PRESCHOOL PROGRAM THANKS TO GRANT MONEY

The Early Childhood Center in Poplar Bluff will be adding a preschool program thanks to a state grant.

The Missouri Preschool Program has awarded Poplar Bluff Schools $250,000 for the program. The center will be able to enroll 60 students ages three to five, and employ six staff members to manage three classrooms.

Enrollment will be conducted on a first come, first serve basis. The preschool is planned to be in operation by September 20^th. For more information, call 573-785-6803.

MOBILE OFFICE TO BE HELD FRIDAY IN KENNETT

Staff members of United States Senator Roy Blunt will be meeting with area citizens Friday in Kennett as a part of the Senator’s Mobile Office program.

The event will be held from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Dunklin County Courthouse.

BUTLER COUNTY FAIR SCHEDULED TO BEGIN SEPTEMBER 16^TH

This year’s Butler County Fair will begin on Wednesday, September 16^th.

COMPLETION DATE OF DUNKLIN COUNTY BRIDGE PROJECT EXTENDED TO MID SEPTEMBER

The Missouri Department of Transportation has extended the end date for an ongoing bridge project.

The Route 53/62 bridge in Dunklin County has been closed since March 10^th so contractor crews could replace the bridge. The bridge is located over the Union Pacific railroad in Campbell.

MoDot says that the project is now anticipated to be completed by Tuesday, September 15^th.

TWO SOUGHT IN CONNECTION TO MURDER OF BLYTHEVILLE MAN

Authorities in Blytheville say warrants have been issued for two men in connection to the murder of an area man in June.

Police are searching for 25 year old Anfernee Xavier Wells and 24 year old Daniel Johnson.

The warrants are in connection to the death of Vincent Stone, who was shot multiple times on June 22^nd at Williams Park.

Both men should be considered armed and dangerous and anyone with information on their location is asked to call 870-763-4411.

SILVER ALERT ISSUED FOR MISSING PARAGOULD MAN

A Silver Alert has been issued for a Paragould man who was last seen on July 30^th.

According to the Arkansas State Police, the alert was issued for 62 year old David G. Bailey. He was last known to be at 402 North 10th Avenue near the Senior Center on North 12th Street. He is also insulin dependent and does not have his supplies with him.

Bailey is described as a white male who is five’ 10” tall. He has brown hair and brown eyes and weighs 255 pounds. He may be travelling in a silver 2002 Kia Spectra with an Arkansas license plate of 807PZW.

EAST PRAIRIE MAN KILLED IN TRACTOR ACCIDENT

An East Prairie man is dead following a tractor accident Tuesday in Mississippi County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 58 year old William Thomure was driving the tractor up a levee when it overturned and pinned him underneath.

The Mississippi County coroner pronounced Thomure dead at the scene.

ONE KILLED, ANOTHER INJURED, IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK

An 87 year old Blytheville woman has died following a single vehicle wreck Tuesday afternoon in Northeast Arkansas.

According to the Arkansas State Police, a vehicle driven by 58 year old Vivian Royer, of Blytheville, overturned after it ran off the side of State Highway 140 in Mississippi County.

A passenger in the vehicle, Lavern Holbrooks, was pronounced dead at the scene. Royer was injured and taken to a Memphis hospital.

LARGE EXPLOSION ROCKS NORANDA ALUMINUM PLANT IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

(AP) - A massive explosion rocked a local aluminum plant Tuesday, injuring some workers and creating a plume of smoke that could be seen for miles.

The explosion and fire occurred around 12:30 p.m. at the Noranda Aluminum plant near Marston.

Noranda spokesman John Parker said all workers had been accounted for and there were no life-threatening injuries. He said some people suffered what appeared to be non-critical abrasions, dust irritation or smoke inhalation.

Parker said one of the injured workers was taken to a hospital for treatment. Others were treated at the scene.

Parker said a molten metal explosion occurred in the cast house of the plant, where the company produces extrusion billet, a length of metal with a cylindrical shape. Production in the cast house was suspended, but work continued at the rest of the facility.

Noranda employs about 900 workers in New Madrid County. Parker said about 20 people were working in the area where the explosion happened. The cause is under investigation.

AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATING SUSPICIOUS FIRE IN KENNETT

Police in Kennett say the Missouri State Fire Marshall’s office has been called to investigate a fire at a local hotel.

At around 9:30 pm Monday, authorities were dispatched to the Days Inn hotel on Independence Avenue in reference to a structure fire. The fire was contained to a single room and extinguished.

The Kennett Police Department says that the incident is being listed as suspicious; however no further details will be released pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.

JONESBORO POLICE WARN OF SCAM INVOLVING WARRANT THREAT

(AP) - Police in Jonesboro are warning about a scam in which a caller claims via telephone that residents must pay him money or risk arrest on an outstanding warrant.

A woman complained to officers Monday that she had received a telephone call from someone claiming to be a Jonesboro cop. She said the caller said he worked in the warrants division and that she needed to send money or be arrested.

The woman went to the police station, which said she was not subject to arrest.

Jonesboro police spokesman Paul Holmes said the caller was a scam artist and warned that other residents may be targeted, too. He also said officers would not call someone and demand that they buy a pre-paid "money card" to settle a case.

FOUR MONTH LONG ROAD PROJECT UNDERWAY IN BUTLER AND RIPLEY COUNTIES

Route 160 in Ripley and Butler Counties will be reduced to one lane with a 12 foot width restriction so contractor crews can perform dirt work and grading.

Route 160 will be reduced between Route JJ and Route 67 from 7 am to 5 pm daily through Tuesday, December 1^st.

WAYNE COUNTY ROAD REDUCED FOR ASPHALT OVERLAY

Route A in Wayne County is being reduced to one lane daily with a 9 foot width restriction as contractor crews overlay the road with asphalt.

The work zone is located between U.S. Route 67 and Route 49.

Work will be performed from 6 am to 6 pm daily through Friday, August 21^st.

BRIDGE MAINTENANCE TO CAUSE DELAYS ON INTERSTATE 55

North and southbound I-55 in Pemiscot County will be reduced with a width restriction of 16 feet this month as contractor crews perform bridge maintenance.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, work will take place from 7 am to 5 pm daily through Thursday, September 3^rd at the bridge located between mile markers 25 and 30.

MAN IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING HOSTAGE INCIDENT IN MINER

A man is in custody following a hostage situation Monday night at a Miner hotel.

According to authorities, the man allegedly threatened to kill a woman and held a knife to her neck. Police eventually were able to get into the room and detain the man.

The identities of those involved have not been released at this time.

ARREST MADE IN CAPE GIRARDEAU SHOOTING

A Cape Girardeau man is facing charges following a shooting that took place last week.

According to authorities, 20 year old Gabriel Derice Housman was arrested in connection the shooting of a man on July 28^th. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to his side during the incident.

Housman is charged with felony first degree assault and armed criminal action.

PORTAGEVILLE POLICE ARREST TWO TEENS IN CONNECTION WITH TWO MONTHS OF VEHICLE BREAK-INS

Police in Portageville say they have arrested two teenagers in connection to a series of vehicle break-ins.

According to authorities, a 19 year old male and a 16 year old male are in custody. Their names have not yet been released.

In addition to the arrests, authorities have recovered five stolen firearms that were taken from vehicles over the past two months.

OXLY MAN FACING DRUG CHARGE OUT OF RIPLEY COUNTY

An Oxly man is facing multiple felony charges following his arrest Monday afternoon in Ripley County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 46 year old Douglas Freeman was arrested on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Freeman is also facing charges of driving while revoked and two counts of displaying plates of another.

DUMP TRUCK OVERTURNS IN IRON COUNTY

A Viburnum man suffered moderate injuries Monday after a dump truck overturned in Iron County.

According to the Highway Patrol, the truck overturned after its driver, 56 year old Douglas Decker, failed to negotiate a curve on Highway 49.

Decker was taken to a Salem hospital following the wreck.

LOCAL HOTEL FLOODED AFTER FIRE PROTECTION LINE BURSTS

A fire protection line reportedly burst and caused flooding Sunday evening at a Poplar Bluff hotel.

According to the Daily American Republic, the flooding caused staff members of Drury Hotel to relocate the hotel’s guests to another hotel. 143 guests were registered at the time of the incident.

The floor of the hotel’s lobby was pushed up around three to four feet, according to reports. The line that burst was the hotel’s private fire line.

16^TH ANNUAL WAYNE COUNTY SCHOOL READINESS EVENT TO BE HELD ON AUGUST 12^TH

The South Central Missouri Community Action Agency tells us that the 16th Annual Wayne County School Readiness will be held on Wednesday, August 12^th.

The event is designed to help alleviate the financial strain put upon low-income families in purchasing the necessary school supplies and services for their children.

Services such as vision and hearing screenings, immunization checks, weight and height screenings, dental hygiene information,

finger printing and much more will be provided free to children and families who attend.

Route 34 in Wayne County will be reduced to one lane this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge maintenance.

The bridge is located between Winn Street and County Road 341.

Work will be performed today through Thursday from 7 am to 4 pm daily.

STODDARD COUNTY ROAD TO BE REDUCED TODAY FOR BRIDGE MAINTENANCE

Route M in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform bridge maintenance.

The bridge located between Route K and County Road 249 will be reduced from 7 am to 3 pm.

STODDARD COUNTY ROAD CLOSED TODAY FOR PIPE REPLACEMENT

Crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation will be closing a Stoddard County road today for a pipe replacement.

According to MoDot, Route T will be closed a half a mile west Missouri Route 51 from 8 am to 3 pm so crews can replace a culvert pipe under the road.

MISSOURI TASK FORCE ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING SET TO BEGIN WORK

(AP) - A team of Missouri lawmakers, activists and others is set to begin efforts to raise awareness of human trafficking.

Legislators voted unanimously to create the task force during this past legislative session. Republican Rep. Elijah Haahr of Springfield will be the panel's chairman.

It's responsible for creating a central hub for information on human trafficking in Missouri. Members must make recommendations to the Legislature by 2017.

Others on the task force include police and public safety officials, child advocates and a member of the Central Missouri Stop Human Trafficking Coalition.

$25 MILLION MEGA MILLIONS TICKET SOLD IN MISSOURI

(AP) - Officials with the Missouri Lottery say someone is holding a Mega Millions ticket sold in Missouri that is worth $25 million.

The Lottery said Monday that the ticket from the July 31^st drawing is the first Mega Millions jackpot ticket sold in Missouri. The winning numbers are 28, 32, 33, 40, 46 and the Mega Ball number is 10.

Missouri Lottery director Mary Scheve Reardon urges the holder of the ticket to sign the back and put it in a safe place until taking it to the Missouri Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City. The winner can also call Lottery headquarters to make arrangements.

The winner has 180 days to claim the prize, in this case, until January 27^th.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN FOUND GUILTY OF MULTIPLE FELONIES

A Poplar Bluff man will be sentenced in September after a Ripley County jury found him guilty of multiple felonies last week.

According to the Daily American Republic, 42 year old Rodney Joe Green was convicted of numerous charges including first degree assault, first degree robbery, and attempted forcible rape.

The charges stem from multiple incidents in February of 2013.

POLICE INVESTIGATING WEEKEND SHOOTING IN CAPE GIRARDEAU

Authorities in Cape Girardeau are investigating a weekend shooting.

According to Police, two people were shot Saturday night in the area of Benton Street and Bloomfield Road. The victims were each taken to an area hospital.

No one has been taken into custody in connection to the shooting.

REPORTED ARMED ROBBERY LEADS TO ARREST IN KENNETT

Kennett Police say a man was arrested Friday following a reported armed robbery.

Shortly before 4 am Friday, officers were dispatched to an area convenience store. An employee told police that a male had entered the store, pulled out a pistol, and demanded money.

The suspect then fled with an undetermined amount of money.

Officers located Sharun C. Adaway and placed him under arrest for first degree robbery.

TWO ARKANSAS RESIDENTS ARRESTED IN RIPLEY COUNTY ON DRUG CHARGES

Two Arkansas women were taken into custody over the weekend in Ripley County.

According to the Highway Patrol, 54 year old Robin Robinson and 39 year old Amy Lacy were each arrested Saturday afternoon on a charge of possession of controlled substance, marijuana.

Robinson is also facing a charge of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine.

MARBLE HILL WOMAN FACING METHAMPHETAMINE CHARGE

A Marble Hill woman is facing a meth charge following her arrest Saturday evening.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 31 year old Jessica Cox was arrested at around 7:30 pm Saturday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine.

Cox is also facing a charge of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

BUSINESS 60 IN BUTLER COUNTY TO BE REDUCED TODAY FOR BRIDGE MAINTENANCE

    OKLAHOMA MAN DIES FROM INJURIES RECEIVED IN OREGON COUNTY WRECK

An Oklahoma man has died from injuries he received in a single vehicle wreck earlier this week in Oregon County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 37 year old Alejandro Lazo-Obregon ran off of Route J and hit a tree Tuesday afternoon.

Lazo-Obregon was taken to a Cape Girardeau hospital where he passed away Thursday afternoon.

  STEELE MAN IN CUSTODY ON FIRST DEGREE MURDER CHARGE

A Steele man has turned himself in to officials in connection to the death of 30 year old Larry Turner.

According to authorities, 26 year old Ratio Armour turned himself in Thursday morning in Pemiscot County. Amrour was arraigned later in the day on charges of 1st degree murder and armed criminal action.

  DEXTER MAN ARRESTED ON STATUTORY RAPE CHARGES

A Dexter man is in custody following his arrest on statutory rape charges.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 30 year old Samuel Matthew Poe has been arrested on charges of 2nd degree statutory sodomy and two counts of 2nd degree statutory rape.

Additional information about the arrest was not released.

  MAN IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING CHASE WITH POLICE

A man is in custody after he allegedly led police on a chase Thursday in Kennett.

According to the Kennett Police Department, the suspect was observed travelling at an excessive speed when officers tried to initiate a stop.

The man led police on a chase which included the man colliding with a police officer and then a telephone pole. The suspect then fled on foot and was eventually apprehended in an abandoned residence.

Inside the residence, officers located a firearm and an undisclosed amount of narcotics that the suspect had attempted to hide.

The suspect’s name is being withheld pending the filing of formal charges.

  DONIPHAN MAN ARRESTED ON METH CHARGE

A Doniphan man has been taken into custody on a meth charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 50 year old Mark Stout is facing a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine following his arrest Thursday afternoon in Ripley County.

  HIGHWAY PATROL ENFORCEMENT OPERATIONS TO BE HELD IN AUGUST

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has announced they will be holding a hazardous moving vehicle operation and a DWI saturation operation next month in Southeast Missouri.

The driving while intoxicated saturation is a mobile operation in which troopers saturate a specific area in an effort to arrest impaired drivers. The hazardous moving operation is designed to target vehicles that are being operated in a hazardous manner.

Exact dates or counties were not given for the operations, just that they would be held sometime in August.

  MAN WANTED ON DRUG CHARGE TURNS HIMSELF IN

Poplar Bluff police say a man wanted on a drug charge has turned himself in.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, Chris Garrett turned himself in at the Butler County Sheriff's Office without incident and has since been released on bond. Garrett was wanted for felony dangerous drugs.

The Police Department is also looking for another man on a drug charge.

  MAN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY SIDE-SWIPING ANOTHER DRIVER IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

A man is facing charges after he allegedly side-swiped a vehicle that had his girlfriend in it in Craighead County.

According to authorities the incident occurred Wednesday night when 34 year old Jonathon B. Poynor saw his girlfriend in another man’s truck.

Poynor was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault. There were no injuries reported.

  FEDERAL DISASTER AID TO HELP REBUILD ARKANSAS COMMUNITIES

(AP) - Federal officials say more than $6 million in disaster assistance will help fund local governments' storm recovery efforts following this spring's severe weather in Arkansas.

Almost $2 million in federal disaster assistance has already been approved to help individuals, families and businesses repair property and replace essential possessions.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency says the federal funds will help reimburse local governments for the emergency work and debris removal that took place in the storm's immediate aftermath.

Other public assistance projects are being developed and approved by local, state, and federal officials. The estimated cost when they are complete is more than $4.1 million.

Recovery officials are working with more than 65 applicants to develop specifications and costs for about 75 projects in the 28 counties eligible for disaster assistance.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE SEARCHING FOR MAN FOLLOWING MASS ARREST

Poplar Bluff police are searching for a man following an operation which saw over 20 people arrested on Wednesday.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, Christopher Garrett is wanted for felony dangerous drugs. Garrett is believed to be occupying a blue 2001 Chevrolet Camaro with an Arkansas license plate of 980WCZ and should be considered armed and dangerous.

POLICE SAY KNIFE-WIELDING MAN KILLED BY ARKANSAS OFFICER

(AP) - Police say a man with a knife was shot and killed by a Manila police officer in northeast Arkansas.

Arkansas State Police say in a statement Wednesday that 41 year old Timothy Johnson was shot when he moved toward the officer while holding the knife. The officer's name was not immediately released.

Johnson's body was sent to the State Crime Laboratory.

State police say the shooting occurred shortly after 8 pm Tuesday after the officer was sent to investigate a disturbance at home along State Highway 18 on the northwest side of the town.

State police are investigating the shooting at the request of Manila police.

MISSOURI TEEN DIES AFTER BEING PULLED FROM SURF OFF NORTH CAROLINA BEACH

(AP) - A 16 year old Missouri youth has drowned after being pulled from the surf off a North Carolina beach.

Police say that Marvin Scott of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, was visiting Emerald Isle Beach on a church retreat at the time of the Tuesday evening accident.

Authorities say Scott and a 13 year old boy with the group were hit by a large wave and carried from the beach by a rip current. Two people on the beach pulled the 13 year old back to shore.

Rescue crews from the town launched a personal water craft and found Scott about 50 yards from shore about 25 minutes later.

Authorities say a Marine Corps helicopter in the area on a training exercise flew Scott to a hospital where he later died.

MAN SENTENCED ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGE

A Naylor man is facing almost 10 years in prison on a child pornography charge.

According to the Daily American Republic, 26 year old Billy Joe Wertenberger was sentenced Tuesday to 117 months on a felony charge of possession of child pornography.

Wertenberger allegedly admitted to police that a USB stick that was in his possession during his arrest had child pornography on it.

THREE ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO CAPE GIRARDEAU SHOOTING

Three people have been arrested in connection to a June shooting in Cape Girardeau.

The victim was shot in the head during the incident on June 29^th on Hanover Street. The three arrested were juveniles and their names were not released; however authorities are pursuing adult certification in the matter.

QULIN MAN FACING METHAMPHETAMINE CHARGE

A Qulin man has been taken into custody on a methamphetamine charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 38 year old Larry Mounce was arrested Wednesday morning in Butler County on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine.  Mounce is also facing a charge of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

AREA BUSINESS MAKES DONATION TO THREE RIVERS ENDOWMENT TRUST

An area business has made a significant donation to the Three Rivers Endowment Trust.

According to Three Rivers College, the donation by the Bank of Grandin will go toward the construction of the Libla Family Sports Complex, which will replace the Bess Activity Center as the home of the Raiders and Lady Raiders basketball teams.

The current proposal is for a $9.5 million, 75,000-square-foot structure incorporating a 3,000 seat gymnasium, offices for all of Three Rivers’ coaches, improved training and locker room facilities, and a Three Rivers Sports Hall of Fame.

The facility also will have a FEMA-certified safe room capable of withstanding an F5 strength tornado funded by a $2.5 million SEMA/FEMA grant.

RAILROAD REPAIRS SCHEDULED FOR TODAY IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

Railroad crews will be in Pemiscot County today for repairs to a railroad crossing.

During the repairs, Route YY will be closed between County Road 204 and Route T. The road is expected to be closed from 8 am to 4 pm according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.

THREE MEMPHIS MEN ARRESTED AFTER STEALING TRUCK LOAD OF TOILET PAPER

A load of stolen toilet paper has led to the arrest of three Memphis men.

According to Captain J. McMillen with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, investigators received a tip last week about a possible theft at a local trucking company, which led officers to begin conducting surveillance.

Early Saturday morning, officers with the Sikeston DPS and Missouri State Highway Patrol witnessed a semi-tractor pull onto the parking lot, followed by a second vehicle. Three men exited the vehicles, hooked the semi-tractor to a fully loaded trailer, and left the location.

Officers initiated a traffic stop on both vehicles and placed the three men under arrest.

51 year old Jimmie Smith, 42 year old Markel A. Eskridge and 36 year old Eugene Pickens, all of Memphis, were each charged with felony theft/stealing of more than $25,000. Smith faces an additional charge of felony tampering with a motor vehicle.

Police learned the trailer was loaded with toilet paper with a wholesale value of approximately $70,000.

MAN ARRESTED ON SUSPICION OF ROBBERY AND ASSAULT

A man is in custody in connection to an alleged weekend home invasion in Poplar Bluff.

According to the Daily American Republic, 20 year old Brandon Head was arrested on suspicion of first degree assault and first degree robbery.

A victim was reportedly cut with a knife during the robbery. The victim was treated and released from an area hospital.

Police are also trying to identify a second suspect in the case who allegedly held multiple people at gunpoint during the robbery.

VICTIM SHOT IN THE BACK IN CAPE GIRARDEAU

A man was reportedly shot Tuesday night during an incident in Cape Girardeau.

According to the Southeast Missourian, a witness said that the victim was shot in the back by another man in the South Hanover and William Street area.

The victim was taken to an area hospital.

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY SENDS OUT FINAL BILLS FOR UNCOLLECTED FEES

(AP) - The Craighead County Election Commission has sent final bills to all but one of the cities and towns in the county for election fees that went uncollected since 2008.

The Jonesboro Sun reports the final bills total just more than $76,600 and range from $42.96 to the town of Egypt to $57,191.30 to Jonesboro.

It was revealed in February that election coordinator Sandra Taylor failed for several years to bill the state, cities, towns and schools for elections. She resigned February 13^th.

New election coordinator Jennifer Clack estimated the county failed to collect about $260,000 in election fees during the past seven years. The commission has now sent bills for nearly $240,000.

The city of Bono has not yet been billed as the commission awaits undisclosed information from the city.

HIGHWAY PATROL REPORTS INCREASE IN DROWNING AND FATALITIES SO FAR THIS YEAR

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says that there have been more fatalities and drownings reported so far this year than last year.

Preliminary statistics indicate that Missouri has recorded 437 traffic fatalities so far in 2015, compared to 412 fatalities during the same time in 2014. Inattention, speed, and impaired driving continue to be the leading causes of traffic crashes in Missouri.

The Highway Patrol also says that in approximately 63 percent of fatalities, the victim was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Drownings are also up this year, with 30 drownings reported so far compared to 29 in all of 2014.

DORENA-HICKMAN FERRY REOPENS

A ferry that connects Missouri and Kentucky has reopened.

The Dorena-Hickman ferry had closed last month due to high water levels on the Mississippi River.

Ferry officials say that the ferry reopened Tuesday on the regular summer schedule. Anyone wanting more information can call 731-693-0210.

GOVERNOR CANDIDATE SAYS TO UP MISSOURI PENALTY FOR SALE OF FETAL ORGANS

(AP) - Republican candidate for Missouri governor Catherine Hanaway says the penalty for selling aborted fetal remains should be a felony, not a misdemeanor.

Hanaway called for ramping up state law Tuesday during an anti-abortion rally outside a Columbia Planned Parenthood.

The rally was in response to an undercover video released by anti-abortion activists showing Planned Parenthood's senior director of medical services discussing procedures for providing fetal body parts to researchers.

It's a misdemeanor in Missouri to offer or receive "valuable consideration" for aborted fetal tissue or organs. Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri has said it doesn't participate in such a program.

Hanaway is a former Missouri House speaker and U.S. attorney. She faces what could be a crowded GOP primary for governor.

GOVERNOR NIXON CALLS FOR ETHICS CHANGES FOLLOWING LAWMAKERS’ RESIGNATIONS

(AP) - Democratic Governor Jay Nixon says Missouri's ethics laws need to be revamped in light of accusations that led to the resignations of two state lawmakers this year.

Nixon on Tuesday criticized the culture in the Capitol during remarks at a school administrators' conference in Columbia.

His comments follow the announced resignation of Democratic Senator Paul LeVota amid accusations that he made unwelcome advances toward interns. Former Republican House Speaker John Diehl left office in May after admitting to exchanging sexually suggestive text messages with an intern.

Nixon said he would like to see an end to the state's trio of unlimited campaign contributions, unlimited lobbyist gifts and lawmakers' ability to immediately become lobbyists.

He also wants the legislative session to be shortened. It currently runs from January through mid-May.

WOMAN’S BODY DISCOVERED IN FLOOD WATERS NEAR CARUTHERSVILLE

A woman’s body was discovered Sunday in flood waters near Caruthersville.

Authorities say deputies with the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call Sunday at around 7 pm about a van in a bean field. While searching the area, officers found the body of a white female. They say she appeared to have been deceased for several days.

The body was identified as 59 year old Diane McDaniel, of Caruthersville.

Authorities say the death was an accidental drowning.

ELLSINORE WOMAN SERIOUSLY INJURED AFTER JUMPING FROM A MOVING VEHICLE

An Ellsinore woman was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries early Monday morning following an incident near Doniphan.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 42 year old Julie Emery was struck after she jumped from a moving vehicle on a Ripley County road.

The incident occurred at around 2:30 am. Authorities did not release what caused Emery to jump from the vehicle.

POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE DRUG RELATED CHARGES

A Poplar Bluff woman is facing multiple drug related charges following her arrest Monday afternoon in Ripley County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 22 year old Elisha Battles was arrested on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance for methamphetamine, codeine and hydrocodone.

Battles also reportedly had a felony warrant out of Butler County for larceny.

TWO ARRESTED IN RIPLEY COUNTY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGE

Two Harviell residents were taken into custody Monday afternoon in Ripley County on a drug related charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 32 year old Crystal Miller and 26 year old James Sales were arrested less than ten minutes apart, shortly after 1 pm.

They are each facing a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.

AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATING HOME INVASION IN LUXORA

Authorities in Northeast Arkansas are investigating a home invasion that occurred over the weekend.

According to KAIT, three masked men allegedly broke into a Luxora home early Sunday morning and held a family at gunpoint.

The men reportedly took money and other items from the occupants, assaulting them and damaging property in the process.

MULTIPLE REPORTS OF DAMAGE FOLLOWING MONDAY STORMS

There were multiple reports of damage Monday following storms that swept through Southeast Missouri.

According to the National Weather Service, a camper was flipped over along with multiple trees being blown down in Advance.

In Cape Girardeau County, a tree was blown down onto a Jackson house. Another tree was toppled over a road way in the city of Cape Girardeau.

There was also street flooding reported in Marble Hill.

EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT FOR TODAY

An Excessive Heat Warning has been issued for most of Southeast Missouri through 9 pm tonight.

The National Weather Service says that afternoon temperatures in the mid 90’s combined with oppressive humidity levels will produce heat index values in the 110 to 115 degree range this afternoon.

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke become much greater concerns when the heat index gets this high. Everyone is reminded to take extra precautions, especially if you will be spending time outdoors.

Remember to drink plenty of fluids and stay out of the sun if possible.

MOBILE OFFICE TO BE HELD IN RIPLEY COUNTY TOMORROW

Southbound I-55 in Scott County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge repairs.

MISSOURI BILLS ON FINANCIAL AID FOR SOME IMMIGRANTS DISPUTED

(AP) - The status of legislation to block scholarships and financial aid for Missouri students whose parents brought them illegally to the U.S. is being disputed.

Democratic Governor Jay Nixon vetoed one bill to stop the state's A+ Scholarship from going to those students. But the Republican-led Legislature could overturn Nixon's action in a September session.

The scholarship pays for two years of tuition at community colleges for students who meet certain grade and community service criteria.

Language aimed at blocking the scholarship also was included in a budget bill. But the Higher Education Department, some lawmakers and others are at odds over whether it's legally binding because of a technicality.

The budget bill also included a provision to require public colleges and universities to charge those students their international tuition rate.

MURDER-SUICIDE SUSPECTED IN ARKANSAS SHOOTING DEATHS

(AP) - Baxter County authorities say murder-suicide is suspected in the deaths of a couple at a home near Mountain Home.

Sheriff John Montgomery says the bodies of 57 year old Terry Mills and 47 year old Sandra Christine Douglas were found shortly after 3 am Sunday at the home on a county road near Highway 201 north of Mountain Home.

Montgomery says deputies were first called to the home about 1 am Sunday by a relative of Mills to check on his welfare and that Mills met and spoke with deputies. The sheriff says deputies were asked about two hours later to again check on the couple and found both dead of gunshot wounds.

Montgomery said a suicide note and the weapon believed to have been used in the shootings were found at the scene.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN FACING HEROIN CHARGE

A Poplar Bluff man is facing a heroin charge following his arrest Sunday evening in Butler County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 22 year old Jacob Knuckles was arrested on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance, heroin.

Knuckles also faces charges of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and driving while intoxicated, drugs.

11 YEAR OLD GIRL SHOT DURING INCIDENT ON INTERSTATE 55

An 11 year old girl was shot in the neck Saturday during an incident on Interstate 55.

According to Pemiscot County authorities, the family of the girl was travelling on the interstate when the girl was shot through the driver’s side window.

An individual later contacted authorities and said he was shooting his pistol at around the time the girl was shot. Two guns were turned over to authorities for testing.

The girl has been flown to a Memphis hospital for surgery.

MAN ACCUSED OF INAPPROPRIATELY TOUCHING 14 YEAR OLD GIRL

A Morley man has been taken into custody on sexual related charges.

According to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, his office received a report that 41 year old Terrial Tyler allegedly inappropriately touched a 14 year old female around the end of May.

Tyler is facing charges of second degree statutory sodomy and enticement of a child.

MAN ENTERS GUILTY PLEA ON FIREARM CHARGE

A Doniphan man faces up to 10 years in prison on a firearm charge.

According to the Daily American Republic, 24 year old Michael Cravens Jr. pleaded guilty last week to a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

His sentencing was set for October 19^th.

DEXTER MAN ARRESTED ON ASSAULT WARRANT

A Dexter man has been set a $50,000 cash bond on an assault warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 43 year old Julio Ernesto Rivera has been arrested on a warrant for first degree assault resulting in serious physical injury.

Additional details about the assault have not yet been released.

ADVANCE MAN ARRESTED ON FELONY DRUG CHARGES

An Advance man is facing felony drug charges following his arrest over the weekend.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 22 year old Miles Jones was arrested Saturday night in Stoddard County on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute for hydrocodone and alprazolam.

Jones is also facing a charge of driving while intoxicated, drugs.

TWO ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON DRUG AND WEAPONS CHARGES

Two men were arrested Saturday in Wayne County on drug and weapons charges.

According to authorities, 34 year old Halbert Wilson, of Jennings, and 27 year old Jermaine Mitchell, of St. Louis, were both arrested shortly before midnight Saturday night.

They are each facing felony charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, marijuana; and unlawful use of a weapon.

ROUTE 143 TO BE REDUCED TODAY FOR BRIDGE REPAIRS

Missouri Route 143 in Wayne County will be reduced to one lane today while Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge deck repairs.

The work zone will be located between County Roads 315 and 314. The road will be reduced from 6:30 am to 5 pm.

BRIDGE REPAIRS SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK IN WAYNE COUNTY

Missouri Route 34 in Wayne County will be reduced to one lane this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge repairs.

The section of roadway to be reduced is located from Pittsburg Street to Ash Street.

Work will be performed through Thursday, July 30^th from 6:30 am to 5 pm daily.

ROUTE Y IN CARTER COUNTY REDUCED FOR PARTIAL OVERLAY

Crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation will be in Carter County this week for repairs on Route Y.

The road will be reduced to one lane from US 60 to the end of state maintenance so crews can partially overlay the roadway.

Work is scheduled to be done from 7 am to 4:30 pm daily through Thursday.

WEATHER SERVICE SAYS EXCESSIVE HEAT EXPECTED IN ARKANSAS

(AP) - A heat warning has been issued for several counties in eastern Arkansas and a heat advisory is in effect for the remainder of the state - both through Monday evening.

The National Weather Service issued the heat warning for eastern Arkansas from Jonesboro southward to Helena-West Helena until 8 p.m. Monday. Temperatures in the area are expected in the middle to upper 90s with heat index readings of 110 to 112 degrees.

Most of the remainder of the state is under a heat advisory until 7 pm Monday with heat indexes expected from 105 to 110 degrees.

CAPE GIRARDEAU MAN CONVICTED IN 2013 MURDER

(AP) - A Cape Girardeau businessman has been found guilty of killing his wife and 18 year old son.

KFVS reports that jurors in a Cape Girardeau County court on Thursday found George Joseph guilty of first-degree murder in the 2013 deaths of his wife, Mary, and son, Matthew, who were shot to death at the family's home. Joseph was also treated for a gunshot wound to the head but recovered.

Joseph's trial began Monday.

Prosecutor Angel Woodruff said Joseph was dealing with financial troubles when he shot his wife and son and then himself. She told jurors that Joseph's investment business had turned into a Ponzi scheme, where he used one client's money to pay back another.

Defense attorney Cynthia Dryden told jurors there was no proof George Joseph pulled the trigger.

TWO DEAD FOLLOWING WRECK INVOLVING A TRACTOR TRAILER

Two Monette residents are dead following a wreck early Thursday morning involving a tractor trailer in Northeast Arkansas.

According to the Arkansas State Police, a tractor trailer driven by 44 year old Chad Marshal, of Jonesboro, was travelling west on Highway 18 in Craighead County shortly before 3 am. The trailer allegedly crossed into the eastbound lanes and struck another vehicle head on.

The driver of the second vehicle 20 year old Zachary Wells, and his passenger, 19 year old Tanner Platz, were each pronounced dead at the scene.

Marshall was injured and taken to a Jonesboro hospital.

ONE DEAD FOLLOWING PARAGOULD SHOOTING

One person was shot and killed during an incident Thursday in Northeast Arkansas.

According to Paragould Police, the shooting occurred Thursday afternoon at an area residence.

The identity of the victim has not been released. Police are investigating the shooting.

FIRE REPORTED AT MALDEN AREA BUSINESS

Fire crews were sent early Thursday morning to a Malden area business.

According to the Daily Dunklin Democrat, a lightning strike caused the fire to begin at Dixie Auto Auction. There was extensive damage to the building, which is considered a total loss.

There were no injuries reported.

MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE OFFERING GRANTS

The Missouri Department of Agriculture has announced that up to $5,000 in grant money is available through the Urban & Non-Traditional Agriculture Matching Grant Program.

The grants will go to assist the development of production infrastructure, direct distribution venues, education programs, workforce development and an increased understanding of the importance of agriculture.

Examples of projects include assisting farmers’ markets and developing small agribusinesses.

The application deadline is September 1^st. More information is available online at agriculture.mo.gov.

BUTLER COUNTY ROAD CLOSED TODAY FOR BRIDGE REPAIRS

Route 158 in Butler County will be closed beginning today so contractor crews can replace a bridge with a box culvert.

The bridge is located between County Road 323 and Route BB.

Work will be performed from 8 am to 5 pm daily through Monday, August 31^st.

POINSETT COUNTY BRIDGE CLOSED FOR REPAIRS

A Poinsett County road has been closed for bridge repairs.

Arkansas Highway 75 is being closed for two weeks between Marked Tree and Highway 42 in Cross County, however local traffic will be permitted in the area.

Officials reported discovered several cracks in the bridge’s support columns prompting the closure.

ARKANSAS ATTORNEY GENERAL ISSUES CONSUMER ALERT FOR SCAMMERS

(AP) - Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge is warning consumers to beware of scam artists who are telling Arkansans they have won money in an international lottery.

Rutledge says con artists are contacting Arkansas consumers through direct mail, email or by phone requesting a small fee in order to process these cash prizes.

Usually the con artist claims the recipient has won a lottery or an expensive prize, such as a car or a trip. All the consumer has to do is submit either a small payment or personal financial information to claim the prize.

But Rutledge says the international lottery ploys are just another attempt by overseas scammers to steal money from consumers. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service estimates Americans pay the scammers $120 million a year for this scam alone.

MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER AFTER SHOOTING VICTIM DIES

A man is facing a murder charge after a shooting victim died Tuesday night.

According to authorities, Floyd Young is charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action in the shooting of Dustin Greer over the weekend.

Shortly after 3 am Saturday morning, Malden officers responded to a report of a crash and found Greer slumped over the wheel of an SUV and suffering from a gunshot wound.

Greer passed away on Tuesday.

MAN SENTENCED TO 30 YEARS IN HIV EXPOSURE CASE

A Stoddard County man has been sentenced to a total of 30 years imprisonment in a HIV exposure case.

According to Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Russell Oliver, on Tuesday, David Mangum was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Michael M. Pritchett to 15 years each on two separate counts of recklessly exposing another to HIV.

Mangum allegedly had sexual intercourse with multiple people without disclosing that he had HIV. Mangum estimated he had between 50 and 60 sexual partners from Stoddard County.

TEENAGER SHOT OUTSIDE OF JONESBORO CONVENIENCE STORE

A teenager was shot Tuesday night outside of a Jonesboro convenience store.

The teen was allegedly shot in the leg after he left the Race Street Market, according to KAIT. The victim told police that a large group of black males was walking towards him when he heard gunshots and started to run.

He was later dropped off at an area hospital.

The shooting is under investigation.

HAYTI TEEN ARRESTED ON BURGLARY CHARGE

A Hayti teenager is facing a burglary charge following an incident Wednesday in Kennett.

According to Kennett Police, shortly after 2 am Wednesday, officers were dispatched in reference to a call from a female who came home from work and noticed that her front porch light had been turned off and a strange vehicle was parked across the street at an abandoned house.

Officers discovered that her home had been burglarized and found property from the residence inside the strange vehicle.

The lone occupant of the vehicle was identified as 18 year old Demarion Stewart, of Hayti. Stewart was arrested on a charge of second degree burglary.

MICHIGAN MAN SOUGHT IN CONNECTION TO ALLEGED ASSAULT

Authorities in Kennett are searching for a man in connection to a reported domestic assault.

According to the Kennett Police Department, the victim had allegedly been assaulted and threatened with a knife.

The Police Department says that they are currently seeking charges on Michael Delany, of Michigan, for second degree domestic assault.

ARREST MADE IN DEXTER FIRE

An arrest has been made in connection to a fire earlier this week in Dexter.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 54 year old James Lewis Higgs, of Dexter, has been arrested on a warrant for second degree arson.

The residence on North Sassafras is being considered a total loss following the Monday blaze. No injuries were reported.

SIX INJURED IN IRON COUNTY WRECK

Six people suffered injuries in a two vehicle wreck Wednesday in Iron County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred when one vehicle struck the back of another vehicle that was slowing down near Arcadia.

The six people injured were taken to a Farmington hospital following the wreck.

CENTER STAGE TO FINISH 2014-2015 SEASON WITH PERFORMANCE OF NUNSENSE

Three Rivers College’s community and student theatre company Center Stage will be wrapping up the current season next month with a performance of Nunsense.

The musical follows the “Little Sisters of Hoboken” as they put on a variety show to raise money following a tragic, and hilarious, accident at their convent.

The show will be held at 7 pm on August 6^th, 7^th, and 8^th at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center. A final matinee performance will begin at 2 pm on August 9^th.

MAN HIT BY VEHICLE IN BERNIE

A Bernie man has been taken to a Memphis hospital after he was hit by a vehicle over the weekend.

According to Bernie Police, 21 year old Richard Enderton was struck by the vehicle Saturday night. Enderton suffered critical injuries in the collision.

He had reportedly been skateboarding in the area around the time he was struck, however authorities do not know if he was skateboarding when he was hit.

No charges have been filed against the driver of the vehicle.

SUSPECTS SOUGHT IN CONVENIENCE STORE ROBBERY

Two suspects are being sought in connection to a convenience store robbery in Jonesboro.

According to KAIT, the Kum and Go store located on East Johnson was allegedly robbed by two men early Tuesday morning. One of the men had a gun and held it to a clerk’s back during the robbery.

The men fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. That specific Kum and Go store was also robbed in May.

Authorities are investigating a recent house fire in Dexter.

The residence on North Sassafras is being considered a total loss following the Monday blaze. No injuries have been reported.

Aaron Hovis placed third out of six competitors in the Stihl Timbersports 2015 U.S. Championship in Central Park in New York City.

The 20 year old Marquand native says he plans to start his own logging company now that he’s graduated from Three Rivers.

CREWS TO REDUCE ROUTE 62 FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS

Route 62 in New Madrid and Dunklin Counties will be reduced to one lane through early August as contractor crews seal the roadway.

The section of roadway to be reduced is located between the Missouri State line and Howardville.

PERMIT APPROVED FOR ALCOHOL SALES AT ARKANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY

(AP) - A permit has been approved allowing alcohol to be served at some events on the Arkansas State University campus.

ASU says Arkansas Alcohol Beverage Control Board Director Bud Roberts approved the permit for the NEA Sports Club of Jonesboro on Monday, conditional on a final inspection of the facilities.

ASU's Board of Trustees in April approved a 10-year lease agreement with the nonprofit sports club allowing it to serve alcohol to its members at Centennial Bank Stadium, the Convocation Center, Tomlinson Stadium, Fowler Center, Cooper Alumni Center and the A-State Pavilion.

ASU System President Charles Welch has said the plan is in response to requests of university patrons. System Vice President Jeff Hankins said alcohol will be allowed to be served during ASU's first home football game on September 12^th.

GOVERNOR NIXON SEEKS DISASTER DECLARATION FOR 70 COUNTIES

(AP) - Missouri Governor Jay Nixon is asking the federal government to declare a major disaster for 70 counties due to spring and summer storms that caused tornadoes, torrential rains and flooding across much of the state.

Nixon made the request Tuesday, citing damage to roads, bridges and other public infrastructure, along with homes and businesses. At least 10 deaths are blamed on the storms and flooding.

Nixon says that since mid-May, more than half of the state has been damaged, and many places face extensive response and rebuilding expenses.

Nixon first declared a state of emergency on June 18, an order that activated the State Emergency Operations Center and enabled the state to mobile resources to assist local authorities. Last week, he extended the state of emergency until August 14^th.

ARKANSAS UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DROPS IN JUNE

(AP) - The Arkansas Department of Workforce Services says Arkansas' unemployment rate last month dropped slightly to 5.7 percent.

The agency said Tuesday that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined one-tenth of a percentage point in June from 5.8 percent in May. The national jobless rate declined two-tenths of a percentage point, from 5.5 percent in May to 5.3 percent in June.

Arkansas' civilian labor force increased 200, a result of 1,400 more employed and 1,200 fewer unemployed Arkansans.

Compared to June 2014, Arkansas' nonfarm payroll unemployment has increased 23,400. Growth occurred in eight major industry sectors, while three posted minor declines. Jobs in educational and health services rose 5,900.

A majority of the expansion was in health care and social assistance. Trade, transportation and utilities gained 4,700 jobs over the year.

WOMAN HIT BY TRAIN IN CRAIGHEAD COUNTY

A Bono woman is dead after her vehicle was hit by a train Monday afternoon in Craighead County.

According to the Arkansas State Police, 51 year old Terry Nelson’s vehicle failed to stop at a railroad crossing on County Road 341 and pulled into the path of an oncoming train.

No other injuries were reported.

MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO ALLEGED ASSAULT OF A WOMAN

A Morehouse man is facing charges in connection to an alleged assault of a woman last week.

According to authorities, the victim said that 51 year old Ricky Joe Burgess had assaulted her in her home. Burgess was later taken into custody by Morehouse police.

He has been charged with second degree assault and first degree burglary.

MAN IN CUSTODY AFTER ALLEGEDLY THREATENING OFFICERS

A Vietnam veteran is in custody after he allegedly threatened officers in Northeast Arkansas.

According to KAIT, the incident occurred Sunday night in Greene County. Authorities say the suspect was out of control and they later found bullet holes in the walls of the man’s apartment and television.

Officers were able to make contact with him and take him into custody without incident. No injuries were reported.

The suspect’s name has not been released.

POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOL DISTRICT AWARDED OVER $170,000 IN GRANT MONEY

The Poplar Bluff School District has been awarded over $170,000.

The grant was announced Monday by Governor Jay Nixon. The grant for $176,263 was made available through the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Over $4,200,000 was awarded statewide.

FOUR SOUTHEAST MISSOURI COMMUNITIES TO RECEIVE A COMBINED $1.7 MILLION DOLLARS FOR FLOOD REPAIRS

Four southeast Missouri communities will be receiving a combined over $1.7 million dollars to repair damage from flooding in 2011.

The Missouri Department of Economic Development approved the Community Development Block Grant funds for Haywood City, Wyatt, and Vanduser along with Pemiscot County.

All four communities will receive at least $294,000.

WAYNE COUNTY ROAD REDUCED TODAY FOR BRIDGE REPAIRS

A Wayne County road will be reduced today for bridge repairs.

Route 34 will be reduced to one lane from Ash Street to Beckville Road so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can mill the bridge deck.

The repairs are scheduled to be done from 7 am to 5 pm.

EAST BOUND ROUTE 60 IN NEW MADRID COUNTY REDUCED FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS

Eastbound Route 60 in New Madrid County is being reduced to one lane so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform pavement repairs.

The work zone is located from US Route 61 to Interstate 55.

Work will take place through Thursday, July 30^th from 6 am to 5 pm daily.

SHOULDER REPAIRS TO CAUSE DELAYS TODAY IN CARTER COUNTY

Eastbound Route 60 in Carter County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform shoulder work.

Work will take place today from 7 am to 3 pm, one mile from the Van Buren City limits.

REPUBLICANS ASK MISSOURI GOVERNOR TO ARM NATIONAL GUARD

(AP) - Republican lawmakers and gubernatorial hopefuls are calling on Missouri Governor Jay Nixon to arm the National Guard after the recent attack on two Tennessee military facilities.

GOP leaders and those eyeing the governorship have publicly asked the Democratic governor to act.

A Nixon spokesman was not immediately available to comment Monday.

A gunman attacked a recruiting center and a Marine-Navy reserve facility in Chattanooga last week. Four Marines and one Navy sailor were killed.

The governors of Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Arkansas, Indiana and Oklahoma have since ordered guardsmen to be armed.

A number of Missouri's GOP senators and others want Nixon to take similar action. Republican Senator Dan Brown and GOP gubernatorial candidates Senator Mike Parson and Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder also want Nixon to order flags at half-staff.

APPEALS COURT REVERSES LOWER COURT ON MISSOURI LAWMAKER CASE

(AP) - A federal appeals panel has reversed a lower court's rejection of a challenge to the Affordable Care Act brought by a Missouri lawmaker fighting required birth control coverage in his state-sponsored insurance plan.

The Eighth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis on Monday reversed a U.S. District Court's 2013 ruling dismissing the complaint brought by Republican state Representative Paul Wieland and his wife Teresa against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and other federal agencies.

Wieland's lawyers cited the Supreme Court's earlier decision that private companies such as Hobby Lobby with religious objections can opt out of the federal insurance plan's contraceptive requirement.

The appeals decision sends the case back to district court.

The Health and Human Services Department didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.

MAN ARRESTED IN 90 YEAR OLD WOMAN’S DEATH

(AP) - A Bay, Arkansas man arrested in connection with the abduction and murder of a 90 year old woman is due to appear in district court Monday.

Craighead County Sheriff Marty Boyd tells the Jonesboro Sun that Richard Jordan Tarver could potentially face charges of capital murder, burglary and kidnapping.

Tarver was arrested Friday in connection with the death of Lavinda Counce, who went missing July 3. She was missing nine days before her body was found in a cornfield with a gunshot wound to the head.

Tarver is being held at the Craighead County Detention Center. There was no information in jail records whether Tarver had an attorney.

SIKESTON TEEN DROWNS IN MADISON COUNTY

(AP) - Authorities say an 18 year old man has drowned at the popular "Offsets" recreation area in Madison County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified the victim as Devron Looney of Sikeston. The patrol says he jumped off an 18-foot cliff Saturday afternoon and did not resurface.

His body was taken to the coroner's office in Madison County.

ONE DEAD FOLLOWING WRECK NEAR WALNUT RIDGE

Arkansas authorities say one person has died following a wreck Friday morning.

According to the Arkansas State Police, the crash occurred on Highway 91, four miles south of Walnut Ridge. A vehicle driven by 42 year old Danny Welsh, of Grubbs, reportedly crossed the center line and struck another vehicle.

Welsh was killed in the wreck.

SPRINGFIELD MAN KILLED IN RIPLEY COUNTY ATV WRECK

A Springfield man is dead following an ATV wreck Saturday in Ripley County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, an ATV driven by 29 year old Michael Barton struck a tree on private property near Doniphan.

Barton was pronounced dead at the scene.

SUSPECT IN CUSTODY IN CONNECTION TO SHOOTING AT A BUSINESS IN KENNETT

Another suspect is in custody in connection to a shooting incident at a business in Kennett earlier this month.

According to authorities, Dontario Jones surrendered to police over the weekend. Charges for Jones were not released.

Two additional suspects, 36 year old Antonio Brown, of Joiner, and 35 year old Julius Jones, of Blytheville, have already been arrested.

They are each facing charges of attempted murder and terroristic act.

MALDEN POLICE INVESTIGATING SHOOTING

Malden police are investigating a weekend shooting.

Shortly after 3 am Saturday morning, officers responded to a report of a crash and found a subject slumped over the wheel of an SUV. The man was reportedly suffering from a gunshot wound.

Residents in the area described hearing what sounded like multiple gunshots then a loud collision or crash noise.

Information about the condition or identity of the victim has not yet been released.

CARTER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY INVOLVED IN WRECK

A Carter County Sheriff’s Deputy was involved in a wreck Friday night.

The deputy was driving on Highway 60 to a reported fire when a vehicle merged onto the road and collided with him.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the driver of the second vehicle, 45 year old Jennifer Sutton, suffered moderate injuries. The deputy, 24 year old Kristopher Wilkins, had minor injuries.

CREWS TO BE IN WAYNE COUNTY FOR ASPHALT OVERLAYS

Route A in Wayne County is being reduced to one lane with a 9 foot width restriction through mid August so contractor crews can overlay the road with asphalt.

The work zone is located between U.S. Route 67 and Route 49.

Work will performed today through Friday, August 14^th from 6 am to 6 pm each day.

PAVEMENT REPAIRS TO BEGIN TODAY IN STODDARD AND DUNKLIN COUNTIES

Contract crews will be in Stoddard and Dunklin Counties beginning today for pavement repairs on Route 25.

During the repairs, Route 25 will be reduced from Route U to Route 153 so contractor crews can seal the roadway.

Work is scheduled to take place from 8 am to 5 pm daily through Saturday, August 8^th.

MISSOURI ROUTE 53 TO BE REDUCED IN DUNKLIN COUNTY FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS

Route 53 in Dunklin County will be reduced to one lane beginning today as contractor crews seal the roadway.

The section of roadway is located from Campbell to Holcomb.

Work will take place through Saturday, August 8^th from 8 am to 5 pm daily.

81 YEAR OLD WOMAN KILLED IN CAPE GIRARDEAU WRECK

An 81 year old Cape Girardeau woman died Thursday after being involved in a wreck.

According to authorities, Florence James was driving a car that was reportedly hit by another vehicle at the Clark and Broadway intersection in Cape Girardeau.

James later passed away at an area hospital.

ONE DEAD FOLLOWING WRECK ON INTERSTATE 55

One person has died in an overnight wreck in Scott County.

According to authorities, the wreck occurred on Interstate 55 near Scott City. In addition to the person killed, two people were also injured in the wreck.

The names of the deceased or anyone else involved have not been released.

BENTON COUPLE ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGE

A rural Benton couple is accused of drug charges out of Scott County.

According to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, 58 year old Michael Caldwell allegedly sold hydrocodone tablets to an undercover investigator on Wednesday.

Caldwell also told the investigators that he could sell them additional pain medication in exchange for a ride to a local pharmacy.

Later that morning, undercover investigators drove Caldwell and 41 year old Carol Lively to the pharmacy, where they obtained their prescriptions.

After leaving the pharmacy, Lively sold 10 Soma tablets to the investigators and gave them two additional tablets for giving them a ride to the pharmacy.

Caldwell and Lively were each taken into custody on charges of distribution of a controlled substance.

LAWRENCE COUNTY OFFICIALS HAVE UNTIL OCTOBER TO DEVELOP JAIL PLAN

(AP) - Lawrence County officials have until October to develop a plan to build a new jail or the Criminal Detention Facility Review Committee will try to shut the current facility down.

If the county doesn't meet the requirements to expand, renovate or build a new jail, the committee could petition the Arkansas Attorney General's Office to file a lawsuit to close the jail.

Lawrence County Judge Dale Freeman told the Jonesboro Sun his county jail committee has a site selected for a new jail in Walnut Ridge that's already owned by the county.

To build the proposed 80-bed unit, the county will likely have to spend at least $10 million. Taxpayers would likely have to pass a sales tax to pay for it.

VICTIM SUFFERS NON LIFE THREATENING INJURIES IN CAPE GIRARDEAU SHOOTING

A victim suffered non-life threatening injuries Wednesday night in a shooting incident in Cape Girardeau.

According to authorities, the victim was shot at a location on Whitener Street and taken to an area hospital.

The shooting is under investigation.

MOBILE OFFICE SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEEK IN EAST PRAIRIE

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt’s staff will host a Mobile Office next week in East Prairie.

Mobile Offices are opportunities for Missourians to discuss their questions or concerns with the federal government one-on-one with members of Senator Blunt’s staff.

The meeting will be held at the East Prairie City Hall on Thursday, July 23^rd from 9 to 10 am.

CHILDREN’S CARNIVAL TO BE HELD THIS SATURDAY

First General Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff will be hosting a Children’s Carnival this weekend.

The carnival is scheduled for Saturday; from 10 am to 2 pm. Kids from the ages of 4 to 11 can participate in activities including a bounce house, sack races, water balloon toss, egg races, and a fishing house.

HEAT INDEXES EXPECTED TO GET OVER 100 DEGREES OVER THE WEEKEND

The National Weather Service says that heat indexes are expected to get over 100 degrees every day this weekend.

According to a Hazardous Weather Outlook, heat index values will top out from 100 to 105 this afternoon and at around 105 on Saturday and Sunday. The NWS says that a heat advisory will likely be required.

The heat is also expected to linger into Monday across Southeast Missouri when we will also have chances of showers and thunderstorms.

JUDGE SAYS MISSOURI BROKE THE LAW BY KEEPING EXECUTION SUPPLIER SECRET

(AP) - A circuit judge has ruled that Missouri violated open records laws by refusing to disclose the pharmacies that make the state's execution drug.

Cole County Circuit Judge Jon Beetem ruled Wednesday that the Department of Corrections broke the Sunshine Law.

The Attorney General's Office represents the state and says they are reviewing the ruling.

The American Civil Liberties Union, Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and reporter Chris McDaniel of St. Louis Public Radio sued. They were denied records requests about the pharmacies and laboratories involved in making execution drugs.

The state argued the pharmacy is a part of the execution team. Those members' identities are confidential.

Beetem said the agency overstepped its authority by naming the pharmacy a part of the execution team, so the records are open.
