ONE DEAD FOLLOWING HOSTAGE SITUATION IN NEW MADRID COUNTY
A man is dead following a hostage situation yesterday in New Madrid County.
According to the Cape Girardeau and Bollinger County Major Case Squad a man was found dead Wednesday afternoon in a rural Cape Girardeau County residence. Officials say that foul play was suspected.
A male suspect was identified during an investigation and was located later Wednesday at a hotel in New Madrid County.
Officials say the suspect had a female hostage with him.
After authorities attempted to negotiate with the man, the male suspect committed suicide. The female hostage was unharmed.
The names of the suspect and the earlier victim were not released.
NORTHEAST ARKANSAS MAN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED RAPE
A Northeast Arkansas man has been arrested in connection to an alleged rape.
According to authorities, the rape allegedly occurred last week in Paragould.
Authorities say that 28 year old Kirk Desmedt, of Lake City, has been taken into custody.
THURSDAY AT THE BUTLER COUNTY FAIR
The festivities will be continuing today at the Butler County Fair at Ray Clinton Park in Poplar Bluff.
The carnival will open again at 5 pm this evening. Weenie dog races are scheduled to begin at 6 pm, with registration starting at 5:30 pm at the truck pull track.
The Swamp Whiskey Band will also be performing at the fair tonight from 7:30 to 9 pm.

TWO ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY ON FELONY TRAFFICKING CHARGE
Two Van Buren residents have been taken into custody in Butler County on a felony charge.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 36 year old Ryan Black and 30 year old Cassie Fant were each arrested early Wednesday morning on a felony charge of trafficking, 1st degree.
Fant also reportedly had a warrant out of Poplar Bluff for failure to appear.
SOUTHEAST MISSOURI COMMUNITY TO BE WITHOUT POWER FOR PART OF TONIGHT
Some members of a Southeast Missouri community will be without power for a couple hours tonight due to repairs.
According to the Matthews Police Department, power will be out in the Matthews area for around two hours, beginning at 11 pm, for residents who use Ameren UE.
The outage is so crews can repair the substation in Matthews.
CLAY COUNTY COURTHOUSES ADDED TO NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES
Two courthouses in Northeast Arkansas have been added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The Clay County Courthouse, Eastern District, at Piggott and Clay County Courthouse, Western District, at Rector are among seven Arkansas properties that have been listed on the register.
Both buildings were constructed in the mid 1960’s.
Officials say the National Register of Historic Places is the country’s official list of historically significant properties.
POPLAR BLUFF MUSEUM HOSTING NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM TONIGHT
The Poplar Bluff Museum will be opening its doors for a special event tonight.
“Night at the Museum” will be held from 6 to 8 pm tonight at the Poplar Bluff Museum on North Main Street.
Attendees will get to explore the history of Poplar Bluff and the surrounding area at no cost. Multiple exhibits will be available including the Poplar Bluff Sports Hall of Fame and the Butler County Historical Society.
