POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT TO HOST DRUG TAKE BACK EVENT
Poplar Bluff residents will have a chance to safely dispose of their unused, unwanted, or expired prescription drugs next weekend.
The Poplar Bluff Police Department will be holding a Drug Take Back event on Saturday, October 26th from 10 am to 2 pm at Wal-Mart on Westwood Blvd.
Participants must simply bring their medications to Wal-Mart for disposal. They cannot accept liquids, needles, or sharps, only pills and patches. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTED FOR 2019 FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS AUTO TOUR
Officials with the US Army Corps of Engineers say that permit applications are now being accepted for the 2019 Festival of Lights Auto Tour.
The 27th Annual Auto Tour will be held at the Redman Creek East Campground from November 29th through December 29th.
Local businesses and individuals can decorate sites along the tour’s path with as many lights as possible. Officials say that the sites are free and the event is also free to attend.

MULTIPLE COMMUNITY FLU CLINICS SCHEDULED FOR THIS MONTH IN BUTLER COUNTY
Multiple flu clinics have been scheduled for this month in Butler County.
Officials with the Butler County Health Department say that it is important to remember to protect yourself, family members, and the community from spreading the flu virus. Preventative measures include washing your hands and receiving a flu vaccine.
A flu clinic is scheduled for 8:30 am to 4 pm today at the Butler County Health Department. Additional clinics will be held later this month at the Health Department as well as at schools in the Neelyville and Twin Rivers School Districts.

HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS FROM THE POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT
Halloween is coming up and Poplar Bluff Police Chief Danny Whiteley has some tips to help keep your child safe while trick or treating.
Chief Whiteley says parents should establish a route for children, making sure they stay within familiar areas and surroundings. An adult should accompany young children. Parents should also remind kids not to enter strangers' homes or cars, and to avoid homes without an outside light on.
Be sure to tell your children to not eat treats until they get home and remember to inspect all treats before allowing your kids to eat them.
11TH ANNUAL HOWLING AT THE MOON SCHEDULED FOR LATER THIS MONTH
The Animal Welfare Alliance of Southeast Missouri is preparing for their upcoming benefit next Friday.
“Howling at the Moon,” the 11th annual fall benefit for the AWA is scheduled for 6 to 10 pm on Friday October 25th at the Westwood Center in Poplar Bluff.
Tickets will be available at the Chamber of Commerce with proceeds going towards building a no-kill animal shelter. There will be dancing, live music, a silent auction, and catering provided by Maya’s, at the event.
